Crazy birdmen coming through the window.
Also, Orpheus. The Guild. Pure gold.

not as funny as the last ep, but still pretty good. i guess dr Girlfriend's flying solo. i also liked Brock's line about the tuxedo.
EDIT i actually meant "Victor Echo November", not Love Bheites.

Haha this episode was pure gold! Also extra props for the Monarch acting really scary this episode.:p
My question is where was Underbite during all of this? He was staying over with the Monarch.

Not only did I think this episode just further proves that this is the greatest animated comedy/action show I have ever witnessed, not only did it SOAR above Love-Bhites (the worst episode of this god damned perfect 10 season), not only do I think that funding this series is the smartest decision Adult Swim has made since picking up Cowboy Bebop back in the OLD DAYS....
....I got to watch, FINALLY, a lot of the episodes from season one that I missed.
I love the fix.
I never saw the season finale, nor the Trial of the Monarch. After watching every episode this season, like 500 things make sense to me now.
I am simply amazed by the continuity of this show. Never before has a show like this offered that. Little tiny details from, like, 10 episodes ago, end up being full fledged plot lines.
It's really astounding. Everything ends up being some major event later on down the road. It's like Full Metal, or 24, just not quite as heavy as either.
I'm going through probably the roughest patch of my entire life right now, and being able to watch all these episodes tonight has really been one of the highest points of my life in the last month. I don't know how many more episodes are left this season, but I sure as hell hope that
a) theres at least 5 more.
b) the third season wont take 200 years like this one did (although it was definitely worth it)
c) that I meet Patrick Warburton one day to express my love for the character that is Brock Samson.
d) they resolve the undying question on everyone's mind this season, is Hank Brock's clone?
God bless Doc Hammer. God bless him right in his face.
Good episode except for the Monarch bits. The whole Red Dragon vibe came out of nowhere, and it seemed overly vicious to the prostitute, especially the henchmen's usage of the word "whore" at the end. Had Monarch's decent in the madness been hinted at before hand it may have played better, otherwise you get him pining for Dr. Girlfriend in previous episodes to being a total psychotic freak in this one. There didn't seem to be any tongue in cheekness to it, like the Monarch was in on the joke, just the cruelty, and apparently this wasn't the first time he's done it. It was almost character assassination of the Monarch, I kept expecting some revelation for why he was acting like this, but it never came. Ugh. Had it been a new character it would have been understandable, but putting this new character trait in the Monarch really hurts my opinion of him.
I guess the idea is it's supposed to be shocking, "Ha-ha look at the Monarch, it's like a Thomas Harris novel." But it's played totally straight and I'm afraid this is going to be some people's "Jump the shark" moment in the series. Hopefully some explanation for this behaviour will come in future episodes and this plotline will prove his darkest point. If he goes back to being normal the next time we see him I'm not sure what to think. Is that better? Maybe. I'd like to see him a degenerate until Dr. Girlfriend arrives to lead him back to some form of sanity. At least that will give this new trait some meaning.

I loved this episode, my only complaint is that there was too much happening. There were about a half dozen sub-plots going on that all couldve probably been broken into just as hilarious 30 minute episodes on there own. For example, the whole thing with the Henchmen and there jet packs, as well as the stuff with the hooker, really didnt fit in with the main plot of Orpheus getting a super-villain. But the Henchmen had enough material there to make a hilarious episode on there own.
By the way, David Lucas, you forget the last question everybody wants to know that only this show can answer - Are the Smurfs mammals?

Liked:
- References aplenty: Walking Eye and 'Scubaman' villain, The Alchemist suggested to be searching for the Philosopher's Stone.
- Brock likes killing with a tuxedo on because it makes him feel like James Bond.
Neutral:
- Monarch going postal; crazy minotaur tattoo on his back.
- Dr. Venture's 'car washing' the Walking Eye.
Disliked:
- Orpheus and his team? Not all that interesting...
- 21 & 24's antics about wanting to become big-time villains and having fun using jet packs? Not all that much hilarious at all...
6.5 out of 10 for "Fallen Arches."

Probably the weakest this season. A lot of plots in this episode, too many left dangling.

Dr. Orpheus' Triad's plot was cool and funny.
21 & 24's plot was flat, even with the "Family Double Dare" mention.
I'm neutral for the Monarch's and Hank & Dean's plot.

Kewl I get to be the first one to say it, Dana Snyder! was a voice in that episode, (Master Shake from Aqua Teen) he was the alchemist, a member of Dr. O's team. "I want to congradulate you, for accepting Hank for who he really is." ha-ha. Wonder if he's going to be a returning character, like Mr. Impossible (Stephen Colbert)

Time to call in "The Triad!"
Wait.. Did Treanna Order Splash on Netflix?
Oh Boy. Dr. Orpheus <> Dr. Strange, Jefferson Twilight <> Blade, and The Alchemist <> The Full Metal Alchemist?
21 and 24 teach us how not to pick up chicks! False ID Cards, and Jetpacks????!!!!
The Monarch still trying to get a Dr. Girlfriend Wannabe? And what is this a Minotaur Tattoo on the Monarch's back?????
Dr. Venture and his Seeing Eye... <> Johnny Quest Rip off Ep!
Dean Thinking about Treanna as Dr. V tells his boy about.. "The Bird and the bees!"
That poor hooker... Stuck in a room full of Pendulum blades..
21 and 24 playing Jet Pack Boy and Jet Pack Girl? and Double Dare!
Treanna.. Up in Flames? (Dude that smells nasty!)
and now she's on her father's island.. getting a tan..and Dean is thinking thoughts of her..(Get off Jefferson's Back Dean before you.. well you know..(Can we say Cream and Jeans in the same sentence? Oh wait I just did!)
Dr. Venture doing a Paris Hilton Car Wash with his Seeing Eye... Oh joy..

Just because The Alchemist is an alchemist looking for the philosopher's stone doesn't mean it's a reference to Full Metal Alchemist. Looking for the philosopher's stone is just what alchemists do. It's their thing.
Anyway, this isn't the best episode of the season. The new characters are good, but there were a number of annoying plot holes and the henchmen sideplot faltered.
Still, a gay mystic and a blaxploitation-style vampire hunter are nice additions to the cast.

Honestly, I kind of saw this coming, though it skeeved me out as much as it did you. Think about it. Supervillainy and mental instability go hand in hand, and the ameliorating influence of Doctor Girlfriend was probably the only thing that kept the Monarch clinging to the pretense of sanity. Doc Girlfriend is Mrs. Lovett to the Monarch's Sweeney Todd.

Pretty good episode, but not as great as it could've been. I think there was too much going on in this episode to allow much of any development on the henchmen plot. I really wanted to see them bust into people's houses.
The Hank and Dean subplot could've bore more fruit and the Monarch's plot very much out of character even if it was satire. However, I loved the Triad team antics and the omages to Johnny Quest and Double Dare did make me laugh.
Overall, pretty good episode.

My least favorite part about the episode were the segments involving the Monarch and his henchmen. While they had some funny moments, they just felt really out of place, especially in an episode with a whole lot of stuff going on in it already. The rest of the episode was pretty good, providing lots of good and funny moments. I really got a kick out of Dr. Venture trying to impress all those villians by washing his walking spider.
I give Fallen Arches a B.

Nice to see the walking eye from the S1 opening.
Didn't execute 5 plots as well as Home Insecurity, but it was still enjoyable.
Loved Orpheus' teammates. Hope they stay around.

My question is where was Underbite during all of this? He was staying over with the Monarch.
Eh we don't really know that. I mean just because Underbhite asked to stay over at the end of "Love Bheits" dosen't mean the Monarch allowed him to, espically since he had a real P.Oed expression on his face in that ep.
I am simply amazed by the continuity of this show. Never before has a show like this offered that. Little tiny details from, like, 10 episodes ago, end up being full fledged plot lines.
Yeah that's very rare for a comedy show. The last program to have so many continuity filled details like this is Arrested Development, and I hope VB dosen't share that show's fate.
a) theres at least 5 more.
There are exactly Five More Eps. Next week is the 9th new ep, then there will be a repeat of "Hose Of The Flying Mummies Part 2" and then they'll have the final four new episodes of the season in a weekly row after that.
b) the third season wont take 200 years like this one did (although it was definitely worth it)
It still might. First they have to wait to see how succesful the second season is and if it warrants them having a third, and production will probably take as long so I'd expect Season Three like... late 2007 at earliest.
Kewl I get to be the first one to say it, Dana Snyder! was a voice in that episode, (Master Shake from Aqua Teen) he was the alchemist, a member of Dr. O's team.
You are correct about that. Actually in the Jackson Publick plog (made by Christopher McCulloh, Creator of Venture Brothers) it was mentioned Dana would do a character for the show months ago and I'm glad to finally hear who it is.
Just because The Alchemist is an alchemist looking for the philosopher's stone doesn't mean it's a reference to Full Metal Alchemist. Looking for the philosopher's stone is just what alchemists do. It's their thing.
It still feels really concidental though since they're both shows on the AS block. But yeah I guess confromation from Publick/Chris would be the only way to offically know if this is a refrence or not. Unless the Alchemist comes back and does some FMA like things.
You know for a Doc Hammer Script, this was a... Doc Hammer script. It did feel kind of more exposition heavy and a bit lighter on laughs then his last couple of eps, but this was still top quality work with lots of hilarious scenes, from the opening of the Guild Video and Orpheus watching it and chatting with Trenna who wanted to get the Splash movie from Netflix to Dr. Venture taking ideas from the Hank Dean and Brock about his walking eye (another very obvious Jonny Quest inspiration that looks like it should of appeared in the show already... which I guess makes sense since it appeared in the intro), all the villians appearing on the lawn (which kind of confused me at first), Jefferson Twilight hunting down vampires and stealing they're teeth, 24 ordering jetpacks and trying tuo updgrade they're status as Villians, the Monarch trying to get his prostiute to sound like Dr. Girlfriend, the Alchemist mentioning the Philospher Stone like it was FMA (and yeah Dana Snyder rocked that part though I really would of loved him to say "Triad team Assemble" or something like that. Oh well him just appearing again would be good), Dr. Venture explaining to Dean about "sex", the Horrid wanting to go in the Venture's bathroom and... well I could just go on like this but it was obviously just all really great stuff. (Best part were all the various show refrences (Polar Bear from Lost, Gak from Double Dare, James Bond (with that little sting from "Assassinany 911") as well as the "mystery" of where Treanna disappeared to, the Triad interviewing the other villians as well as what happened in all the other little subplots). Just really good sutff here that defintley warrants seeing at least a second time.

You know, the British version of the first Harry Potter book was called Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

I don't see how it was out of character. The Monarch kills his henchmen all the time, why would he have a problem killing a prostitute? I would understand if you thought it was too dark, but I've often complained about this show getting too dark. It shouldn't really be surprising that this show would have the Monarch killing a prostitute. Actually, though, considering the prostitute lived, this episode is less dark than a lot of first season episodes.
The stuff with the Orpheus team worked really well, as did the Guild video and the whack-ass "Lady Windemere's Fan" recital that broke out about midway through. The Monarch stuff, has, however, long since been played out, whether he's aping Red Dragon or not and I'm tired of seeing him in nearly every other episode, and the Henchmen too (smacks way too obviously of "OMG! References!" for me) The pros far outweighed the cons however--the stuff I didn't like was kept brief, and the concept of a Blacula hunter is A-OK with me. B-

Well I found this episode to be highly enjoyable. I liked the parts with Orpheus and his team and I found Hank and Dean's burning poop mystery to be the best part of the episode. Monarch and the henchmen were okay but I got the least amount of laughs from their parts.
And the whole first season is on the Fix? I was thinking of buying the DVD but I think I'll check this out before I decide.

Most of it was good but the stuff with The Monarch and The Henchmen was pointless and unnecessary.

This episode was alright but I think a bit more focus would've helped. Orpheus and the Hank/Dean stuff was the highlight here. I actually have a pretty high Monarch/henchmen tolerance, but both of their plots felt more like throwaway gags than the amount of time they took up. Really, Monarch's stopped being funny after the initial gag of dressing up a prostitue like Dr. Girlfriend. And Publick missed the chance for a Vertigo reference (unless he had one and I missed it)! And it wouldn't have been forced!
Still, Windemere and Blacula were good enough for me.

I laughed several times, but the episode was a downer for me. The Monarch stuff started off funny but everything after him revealing his tatto was unfunny. Generally I wish they stopped crapping all over Docter Venture and the Monarch. Comm'on I like both of them, stop treating them like crap. We have a henchman overdose this season too, they're good when used sparingly but I think it was a mistake to get rid of the other (unnamed) henchmen. Finally I'd like to say that this season seems overly continuitybound while at the same time it isn't going anywhere. I mean so far there haven't been any random episodes (a-la the Brisby one) but at the same time there aren't any plot treads like the clone and fetus stuff in season 1. Ofcourse there were funny parts, its just that I hold this show in a high regard and expect more from it.
Wow I thought this was incredible. There was a lot going on! But I liked all of it. I wish it had been a 2-parter or something. Monarch being truely evil was the best! Well and only killing Blaculas!

Full Metal Alchemist didn't invent alchemy or anything, there have been countless comic book heroes/villians who used alchemy as their shtick. Like how Orpheus is a homage to Dr. Strange and Jefferson Twilight is a homage to Blade/Brother Voodoo, The Alchemist was most likely a reference to Alchemy, Mr. Element, Dr. Alchemy, or any of the numerous other alchemists in Marvel/DC lore. Or it could just reference Alchemy in general (which existed long before FMA)
Anyway, I really liked this episode. The Monach's unusual streak of cruelty/insanity was hilarious and Dr. Venture washing the walking eye almost killed me.
