I was just wondering, but has anyone ever used FreeWebs to make a .com website? I just did for a Xbox Live Clan, and it says it is linked to the .com website now, meaning that all the work I did on FreeWebs should now be on that website, correct? Does anyone know how long it takes for your website to activate? FreeWebs said 24 hours is the most I should give it, but what am I supposed to do if it does not appear? (Or has this never been a problem?).

Also, anyone who has had any previous website development projects, do you have any advice on how to improve websites and make them better?

Thanks,

Zechs

I have a freewebs website (see my sig). Unfortunately I can't answer your questions about XBox Live or how long it takes to activate.

I will say, though, that for the websites I've made, I've tried to keep the interface nice and simple, with everything easy to find. I can't stand websites that are all flash and no substance. (And while we're at it, I'm not a fan of Flash either. Often, my computer has slowed WAY down while an overly complicated Flash ad finishes playing)

Can I see yours (if it's up, that is)? Perhaps if I saw it I could be more specific on suggestions.

Well, it is not up yet, I bought a domain (70 bucks for 2 years) and I attached my already made FreeWeb to it. It said to wait a bit for the domain to show up, but it hasn't yet and I dont know what to do.

(The Website however is called: www.competitivegamingindustries.com (http://www.competitivegamingindustries.com))

Im guessing that I just have to wait a bit longer...

Well, it is not up yet, I bought a domain (70 bucks for 2 years)Did you do it through Network Solutions or something? You can do the same thing through a site like Go Daddy or Dotster for a tiny fraction of that.

You said you linked your site to the domain name, but did you tell your domain name to forward itself to your website? Usually it's a "get both things to point at each other" kind of thing in order to work.

And Adam Tyner's right, I got a ten-year domain for $7/year at GoDaddy. Were you actually talking about the webspace hosting the content of your site? That sounds more realistic.

Geez, when making this site I should probablky have researched more information, gah. But it's okay, I contacted someone at FreeWebs (A Rep) and they told me it just takes time.

Geez, running a website is harder than I thought.

(Keep in mind this site deals with an online gaming community on Xbox Live)

It isn't easy, but you can learn a lot from doing so. If you want to go hardcore in the future, I suggest you sign up for a web hosting provider (usually costs you at least $5-6 a month -- includes your domain, MySQL databases, 24/7 tech support, etc.). I think that what you're doing right now is fine.
