I left to do some errands today, and came back an hour later only to find that my computer had died. The computer was still running, but the screen was entirely black. I thought it was just the power save feature that automatically turns my monitor off, so I moved the mouse around and hit some keys on my keyboard and nothing happened! So without turning off my computer, I unplugged and replugged back the monitor, the keyboard, and the mouse.

Nope, nothing happened. The screen was still black, so I manually turned the computer off. I waited a few minutes and turned the computer back on and all I got was this loud beeping noise, and the screen remained entirely black, with no signs of Windows XP starting up. Even worse, the keyboard and mouse would light up for only a second and would die again.

After a few more tries of restarting, I completely unplugged everything and took my tower to our other computer in the house and plugged my computer into its monitor, keyboard and mouse. The same thing happened again. The noise was still loud and the screen was still black. I put the other computer back to the way it was and everything on it's still running fine on that one.

I'm absolutely stuck as to what to do. My computer won't even show up a startup screen for me to format or fix it in someway. Can anyone give me suggestions as to what happened?

I'll probably have to take it in to the store to get it fixed, but they'll take about a week to look at it. I need my computer now because it has all of my homework for Monday's class (I'm taking extra credit classes in the summer).

If anyone could give me suggestions on how to fix this I would GREATLY APPRECIATE IT! Thanks :)

All I can say is that its pretty much done for. You can always take it to a computer store and try to get it fixed professionally, but I don't think they can do anything if the screens completely black.

Strange. If I had to take a guess, I would say there's something wrong with your motherboard. That would explain the mouse and keyboard turning off. It may also be a faulty PSU, but I doubt that.

To help with your homework problem, just take the HD from that computer and set it as a slave drive and place it in your working computer.

I think it might be my videocard that's screwed up, because that loud noise seems to be coming right from that area.

Anyways, I'm not as freaked out anymore. I just sent it in for repair, so hopefully it'll be fine in a about a week or so. I'm still gonna have to redo all of my homework, which competely sucks because there's no way around that now. There was no way I was gonna take out the hardrive and risk voiding my warranty (I still got another year left on it), but thanks for the suggestion Mog. I'm sure I'll have to end up using that as a last resort sometime in my life.

Also, whyiscrowdpurpl, what?

whyiscrowdpurpl, what? (I'm taking extra credit classes in the summer). It was a joke, I wouldn't wish that upon my worst enemy.

Also, whyiscrowdpurpl, what? :confused:If it was a motherboard, it most likely not turn on, if it was the hard drive, it would boot into DOS but not boot into windows, if it was a CPU, it would not start at all. So the likely contendors are Video Card (most likely) PSU (least likely). I would go with a video card repalcement. There is a very good utility for testing a PSU, its less then $20 and wirth a buy.

If its a video card, I assume you have the AGP one, it would cost you under $200, not more than that. PSUs are not that expensive neither. Good Luck.
