Do you use your common sense everyday? I do. What really gets on my nerves is how people older than me don't. I mean, I'm 14, and sometimes I find myself more mature than 20-year-old's I know. I can see why my age group may not use common sense, but I've learned to use mine. In simple situations, like not smoking pot with friends (never happened to me), and not lighting a firecracker in your pants (really did happen to my brother when he was eight). I mean, would you really jump off a bridge if your friend did? No. Hopefully not.
Your thoughts?

most people do dumb things for a rush, or they think they're to smart, strong, etc.

What kind of bridge?

Everyday I refrain from jamming knives in my eyes, so I do use common sense everyday. I may not use it constantly, though.

ah, finally! a teenager with brains! (talkin bout Catdogfan) my motto is all about common sense... i mean after all it does make sense, doesn't it?
i thought i was the only weirdo back when i was 14 who actually understood things better than others. my dad actually told me once when i turned 15 that i might as well have turned 30.
i think before acting, and well in the end it pays off. more ppl should use it, maybe that way we may achieve world peace easier, dont you think?

I do, but it seems alot of people out there lack common sense, including moral common sense. If people used their brains and hearts more, then the world wouldn't be such a messed up place.

Agreed. And I believe it all starts when your kids. If you don't learn basic morals and common sense when your a child/teenager, chances are you won't lead a very healthy life

Moral common sense?
Knowing right from wrong. Alot of people these days sometimes think good is evil and evil is good, or that the victim is the bad guy while the thief is the innocent bystander. Not knowing what is moral or not is just as bad as contiuning to do stuff that is obviusly dangerous.
You better not be talking about religion - that completely lacks common sense in every way.
Sterotyping will get you nowhere in life, as is shallow philosophy or theology based on a few misguided assumptions True common sense happens when one actually thinks, and knows what they are talking about. Before you make a remark, understand what you are truly trying to say.

Huh? When was religion ever mentioned?
Morals. The difference between right and wrong, values you have, your basic beliefs (could be religious, but that wasn't where I was going). It seems that a lot of people have never learned how to obtain them. And at that rate . . . they never will. Thats what makes this world sometimes hard to live in. I am glad I learned early.
Also, not getting into religion, but your comment was very generalized. Not everyone feels that way.

I am glad I learned early. You didn't "learn" early, you were brainwashed. Wisdom comes with experience. Everything else is fake morals and suppressed feelings.

You didn't "learn" early, you were brainwashed. Wisdom comes with experience.Wisdom does not come from sterotyping and ignorance either. You should take heart to your words, whyiscrowdpurpl, and experience stuff yourself.

I was never brainwashed, I picked up my morals myself, thank you. And its the smartass comments that you displayed that make this world go 'round and 'round, sadly.

I'm not really sure how smoking pot relates to common sense.

It takes common sense not to smoke it.... you probably lack the common sense to understand that.

It takes common sense not to smoke it.... you probably lack the common sense to understand that.In Fact, Smoking anything would go against common sense. Not just for what its doing to your body, but for all the money you are waisting on it. in NY, its about $8 per cigarette pack. I am sure that if there was a magical, painless way to stop smoking, without any withdrawal symptoms, people would take it, if not for their health, then for their money. Because saving money is common sense.

Well now, that makes sense :p, and you're right. basically anything that does more harm than good just doesnt make any sense to take it. i mean whats the point if there is little to no benefit? (that does not include prescribed medication since that is actually used for good but has unfortunate and numorous side effects)

Yeah... I use common sense, but not all the time. Though my level of maturity does show in public, it doesn't here at home all that much (I tend to procrastinate... setting aside of important duties; I'm nothing like my mother).
Because saving money is common sense. It is, but you'd be surprised how many people purchase school lunch every day rather than bring their own. And, the stuff the schools serve isn't exactly cheap, either. Add on top of that the fact that people will spend an extra dollar on a 12 ounce can of Snapple, and I'm really thinking where that money could've gone.
To me, saving money is common sense, but that's because I don't exactly make a steady allowance, or have a job. Every cent that isn't going in my coin collection goes into reserves for my DVD collection, and I've got to know how to make and save money just to get what I need to ameliorate my collections. If that means not going to the movies or eating out with my brother and his friends, then so be it.
But, it appears you take this stuff to heart, Gatomon41 and SilentBat18.

i do, i practically live by it. without it, well, i'd be lost. i even use common sense as a way to study for my major (psychology/ biology) in the end i view everything as being logic balancing everything out and it makes sense. i guess thats why i dont find life too hard except when it comes to making money and saving it. well working for minumum wage isnt the high life so paying bills arent fun. not to mention turning away from the urge to buy those cute shoes i saw from the window at the mall.... and i mean RALLY cute shoes!! that takes will power.
thats it! im going shoe shopping! and i dont care if it doesnt make sense why!!
*inhales, exhales* ok i'm good... just saved 50$... thats good, right?
anywho, anyone else use common sense to make life that much easier?

Well, then in that case you might as well say anyone who eats dessert lacks common sense since eating dessert does more harm than good.

Yeah, but you can smoke weed without paying for it. For instance, if you go to a party and everyone's smoking weed.

Common Sense?
Do you really know what that means?
Your mother tells you "don't touch the hot stove", but do you believe her?
Common sense is what you see others do and survive to decide if you'll try it.
It's basicly experience of others as to whether you'll try it.
The basics of "common sence" is to try things at a point which you know can't kill you,,,, then increase it till it hurts,,,, at which point you decide that to proceed further would be "NUTS"

Yeah, but you can smoke weed without paying for it. For instance, if you go to a party and everyone's smoking weed.Yea, but not smoking ilegal drugs is common sense. And in that regard, its common sense to avoid doing anything ilegal. And not harming yourself on puprose is also common sense.

Well, then in that case you might as well say anyone who eats dessert lacks common sense since eating dessert does more harm than good.
doesnt it take common sense to eat the RIGHT desserts? for example ice cream is a cooling refreshing dessert, well so is sorbet and its equally delightful with half the calories. or how bout chocolate (my favorite). a bar of chocolate a day (preferably twix since it has 2 bars in one psychologically making me full) is a nice way to satisfy that sweet tooth. or you can switch with dark chocolate since it has natural antioxidants. or how bout trail mix, those are good. fat free potato chips? or popcorn, thats a healthy snack. light in calories full of fiber.
it depends one what u see and dessert. all that i have mentioned are as enjoyable as the regular dessert that so many people love. plus you can counter the disadvantages of dessert (ex: rotting teeth, fat) with proper hygene and excersise.... duh.... it takes common sense to brush your teeth after eating something that could rot your mouth if left untended, not to mention keep in shape with excersise (which strengthens the body's endurance as well as immunity) hence, does more good than harm.
if you dont do that(switching desserts or excersise/ brush teeth), well then that's just lazy.

I'm amazed this topic is still open.
But, yes, I use common sense every day. If you brought this up to wax philosophical about why so many who should be wiser than you are being braindead monkeys, then you'll have to get in line behind me and about 45 million others, because I doubt you're the first one to wonder this. If you brought this up to say, "Ha ha, I'm smarter than some 20 year olds I know," then...congrats. Not everyone can stay away from paint chips and glue.
This came out a lot more bitter than I wanted it to. Oh well. Sufficed to say, if I didn't have any common sense, I wouldn't have survived as long as I have--which, really, is the total purpose of common sense in the first place. Blah.

OK, people ae being snippy and rude to each other, which, as we all know, is not welcome on this board. I don't see this going anywhere good, so: thread closed.
