It's funny how a company like Krispy Kreme can go from giving you a job selling donuts, to giving you a pink slip... and in fact that's what happened yesterday not only here in Tucson, but In at least 10 stores in both Arizona and New Mexico...

(That's right, 10 stores.. and two of them here were in Tucson, another three were in Phoenix.. and in just the two Tucson stores about 55 people were left wondering where their Next Paycheck would come from, as they were told, not to come in.

(Luckily a restaurant owner who's head of a group of independent Restauranters were kind and gracious enough to give these 55 poor souls at least a new job).

So then why did all these stores (10 of them in all) Suddenly close their doors, and didn't even bother given a reason why? Well one of our news stations finally got an Answer yesterday...

simple Bankruptcy..

I guess the Donut Business here in Arizona and in Neighboring New Mexico hasn't been too kind..

But it made me wonder... why is it that 4 years ago Krispy Kreme came to Tucson, and we got two stores in the entire city that sold delicious Donuts that were heavenly to eat... and now 4 years later, both stores shut down.. and left a lot of happy patrons wondering where they would get their next Donut from..

It's sad to see four years of wonderous service being besmirched by something as bad as bankruptcy.. but then the next question that crosses my mind is this... Was there poor management involved? Did The Franchise really over extend itself? And were these stores losing money hand over foot until the managers of the stores finally said, "We can't pay you, we can't even pay ourselves, we're going to have to close the stores.."

It's a sad day indeed, but what really caused this.. were these 55 souls here in Tucson just a victim of a "Donut Slump'? Were they the victims of poor management? Was this complete downsizing by the company in order to not lose money? Or was there something else that cause these stores to close..

Your thoughts on this?

(Edited Note: I Myself tried a Krispy Kreme Glazed donut.. they aren't half bad, in fact, they're quite good...Too bad I won't be able to taste another one like it..) :(

It's not the donut industry...it's that Dunkin Donuts really has the donut market cornered. Personally, I think Krispy Kreme donuts are disgusting.

Any company that responds to being put down by Penny arcade by giving them seveal hundred donuts (of which I hear were donated) is ok in my book.

Krispy Kreme faltered when they started selling no-carb donuts.

I mean... who wants a donut without carbs? That's like asking Shaquille O'Neal to shoot a free throw. It makes no sense.

I totally agree with you. I've never seen what the fuss was about with Krispy Kreme. They are the worst donuts I've ever tasted. No flavor, no texture, just a greasy, sweet sensation in your mouth similar to eating shortening mixed with sugar. Nasty.

Agree, Krispy Kreme donuts are digusting. I tried one a few years ago when they opened nearby (and closed just two years ago), and it almost made me puke. I'll stick to Winchell's Donuts, or the local Daily Donut shops. They're much better.

I do like their doughnuts, though they're way better when hot and fresh. All I have to say is -- whoa...this is a big surprise.

Agreed. I'm not a big donut fan but KK's "hots" are what I imagine angels taste like.

I like KK, but not as much as Dunkin' Donuts.
