Beginning in Fall 2007. From Broadcasting and Cable:

Family Guy, Men Look for Big Payoff
By Jim Benson

Following Warner Bros.’ lead with Two and a Half Men, Twentieth
Television is seeking a big payoff for off-network episodes of Family
Guy, its racy animated hit with younger men.

Twentieth President Bob Cook says he expects to conclude the first
major-market deals for the sitcom within a week or two. In officially
rolling out the show for fall 2007, the initial Family Guy pitches
have been tailored to Tribune and Fox, as well as CBS’ New York, Los
Angeles and Chicago stations.

The syndicator will offer buyers links and the ability to sell ads
around original Family Guy short subjects on its studio Web site.

Twentieth will be watched closely to see if it ultimately sells Family
Guy to its parent Fox station group. But Cook and Paul Franklin,
executive VP/general sales manager, say the studio will be aggressive
with the $500 million franchise, selling it to the highest bidder in
each market.

The sales campaign for the adult animated series compares Family Guy
with Twentieth’s The Simpsons and their ability to repeat well. The
pitch goes two ways: using the program as a companion to stations that
already have The Simpsons and as a competitor for those that face off
against it.

The Two and a Half Men/Warner Bros. paragraphs have been omitted.

It's be one hell of a note for a Fox station to buy Family Guy via off-network syndication. But highest bidder get it, period.

The FG juggernaut just keeps rollin' along. People today just don't get tired of Peter & crew. But will FG in syndication in the big TV markets hurt FG's ratings on Adult Swim? Maybe, maybe not.

But I think that with the loss of Futurama to Comedy Central in 2 years, plus AS becoming just one among several outlets running Family Guy in the big TV markets, I think it's time that the folks at Williams Street start looking for new comedy material that will be funny to mass audiences.

They need something, preferably animated, with lowbrow comedy based on the human universals of lust, greed, jealousy, deception and embarassment. Snarky insider humor with narrow elite appeal is fine, but can't carry the block unless married to something with sex jokes, fart jokes and pratfalls. (^_*)

Yeah, but nobody even knows that. I didn't even know that until I read your post. I guess it's NOT oversaturated.

If DVD hasn't hurt syndicated reruns, nothing will.

Fox probably won't get the rights to FG's reruns, it just depends on who puts out the most cash for it. In Indiana, King of the Hill and That 70's Show both wound up on the UPN Affiliate, while Malcom, The Simpsons, and Married With Children were all on Fox's lineup together at one point.

I don't it will hurt [adult swim]'s rating that much since the syndication version will be edited, just like every other (prime time) show that into syndication.

Wait, syndicated shows are edited? If this is true, I HAVE to see the edited version of Family Guy.

What are they gonna do, take out the penis jokes, references to Jesus and nudity?

Wait, that'll ruin the very essence of Family Guy. :p

The only cuts to FG when it hits syndication will be time edits for more commercials. Nothing major will be cut out. Look at what got left in South Park, Roseanne, and Will & Grace when those shows went to syndication.

"Until we're syndicated Fox will never let us die! Please?" Stewie, season 2

It took six years of unprecedented events, but he got his wish.

Something tells me that the musical number in "PTV" will be chopped up (both the video and the audio) so much that it'll be unrecognizable.

Yes, it will, unfortunately. Actually, I'd rather the episode just be skipped instead of seeing it hacked up.

Wasn't FG syndicated before? I remember in summer 2003, it was on the local FOX station every weekday at 12:00 noon along with Futurama at 12:30.

Even if this summer airing is true (I never heard anything about a daily noon airing), the show's always aired on Fox, so that has nothing to do with syndication. The fact that it also airs on AS and TBS (if they're still showing the reruns) is what shows that it's syndicated.
