View Full Version : C&C - Eureka Seven - "Childhood" [5/19]

Damn those kids are annoying, but in their eyes they have a good reason for everything they do. Granted, it's a very selfish reason, but at their age, they find it perfectly justified.
Are we eventually going to get out of "perpetual character development" mode?

Switching from perpetual character development to perpetual character development WITH development plot mode.... is coming.. (yes, I know, that's said alot in these threads..)

At least the ankle-biters have decided to leave Renton alone. That was getting irritating.
The only purpose of childhood is to remind you how much reality sucks.
And yet when you're older you keep wishing you were a child.
What is up with that?

Anyway, it was a good episode. I like character development, w/ or w/o action.

I think Matthieu (Kirk Thornton) was taunting us with sneaking in a normal pronunciation of the word Eureka in the end of the episode ;)

There was plot in this episode, it happened right before the break.
That guy with the long blue hair in braids was on tv during a news report, something about an exposion. Holland said something to the effect of "that was the man who killed the king... why isn't he in jail?".

I found it hillarious watching the kids play all those pranks on Renton, and I thought it was sweet that they gained enough respect to join him in the brig at the end.

Hmmm... makes me glad I came back now. Most entertaining episode yet.
Kids will be kids, and should be when they think someone's gonna take their mom away from them, but hey... Renton catches on eventually. And if he has to steal the Nirvash to cover their butts and prove he's cool to them, well, so be it!
Anyone curious how Renton didn't break any bones after falling from that height off a ladder?
Oh, and this episode deserves notice because of this exchange:
Talho - "Maybe we'll get some brand new fans!"
Stoner (the guy with the beret) - "Well, we don't need fans like that!"
[in regards to Mathieu 'mock-upping' Eureka's age]
If that didn't get the Eureka fanboys howling, I don't know what will. (And for the record, I'm not one of them.)
7.5 out of 10 for "Childhood."

It's symbolic of Renton's intune nature with the planet. He is intune with the planet and it's gravity which allows him to activate Nirvash's full potential and thus survive the massive falls.[/making crap up]

Kinda disturbing when the LFO had blood comming out of it after the Nirvash dove through it.

Yeah... do we ever get an explanation why those robot bleed? Or do they just over do it on human bleeding like Bleach and that's just human blood?
I'm really enjoying this show lately but I hope it truely does earn it's Adult Swim worth soon because so far it's an interesting coming of age story with a lot of character interaction. The humor is far too juvenile though. But I gotta admit using the elephant image to express Renton's moment in the bathroom was genius.
Glad the "war" is over, it was getting really annoying.
I hope this ride keeps getting better. It's pretty good so far.

Those kids were really starting to get annoying. But I just knew they were gonna get what they deserved, eventually..... Renton got screwed over anyways at the end, however:sweat: . When I first saw him take off with the kids, I was thinking "man, he's gonna get his ass kicked when he gets back".

I think every guy over the age of 14 likes porn.
Anyway, this episode was slightly more impressive than the earlier episodes, but I still had some problems with it.
First of all, the message about kids needing to be punished seemed kind of halfassed. I mean, the only one who seemed to really get it was the captain of the ship. Though, I wasn't sure even he quite got it because he seemed to only send Renton to the holding cell, as the kids seemed to go voluntarily, which brings up another point. If anyone can open and close the doors to the holding cell, what the hell is the point of it?
Anyway, throughout the whole episode the obvious resolution seemed to be that the kids needed discipline, however, Renton never really learns his lesson, as he tries to cover for the kids rather than teaching them discipline, but I guess that's okay, cause the kids learned their lesson.
However, when Eureka sat down in the cell with her kids I thought she would say something like "I deserve to be punished because I failed to discipline my kids" or something like that. But, instead she just said "It's because I'm their mother." I'm not sure if that meant she was punishing herself for being a poor parent or she was just supervising her kids. Well, actually, now that I'm rethinking this I suppose maybe the show was just being a little bit subtle with the dialogue, and maybe it's best to just infer that Eureka was punishing herself for being too lenient of a parent. I guess there's really no need to overexplain the scene.
The Golden Bough: A Study in Magic and Religion.
Yeah.. that sounds like porn.
You're thinking of Golden Balls: Ass Study and Magic Regions
Anyway, my other problem with this episode was the fact that it never showed the cockpit of the military mechs. I mean, were they computer controlled or were they piloted by humans? It didn't really explain this, but if they were killing humans, then it was really cheap to not show the pilots. I mean, was Eureka really killing people while her kids were cheering her on? Does anyone else see something wrong with this?

This episode was not intresting and I'm still not adicted to the series.
In fact, Most of the series feels like someone put Neon Genesis Evangellion and Perfect Hair Forever in a really poor blender and hit blend, The Result is this show. I'm still not convinced this even belongs on Adult Swim or is even Adult Swim quality, In other words, This show sucks, Wake me up when there is real action, blood, swearwords, mindrapes and physcological disturbances.
Overall: 0.5/10
If anyone can open and close the doors to the holding cell, what the hell is the point of it?
I don't think it opens from the inside.

For some reason this episode flew by for me, especially once the aerial fight scene happened. I liked Renton's monologue about not wanting to be rough on the kids to get close to Eureka but by being a wussy he distances himself from her in the process. So true, so true.

I've wondered that too. If there are really pilots in them it makes it seem that they have no qualms about killing, but if they're just robots then that's different. I mean, that last one she tore up did look like it had blood, but I don't know if that was supposed to be from the pilot or what.

What the hell...geez those kids, should not be...drawing on his genitals, that is just messed up and disgusting, damn kids.
Anyways,
The kids...are incredibly annoying, I swear, if they had all died in this episode it would had made me all the more happier, but seeing as these are kids, Eureka's kids, this will never happen. I suppose, after this episode they wont be as annoying, since they have actually learned something, but I wont know that until later. Honestly, nothing like annoying Anime Characters to turn a guy away from the series.
Overall, I liked how Renton was punished, I was going to bash this episode so hard if he had gotten away without anything. And honestly, if I were Eureka, I still would have been pissed, he didn't have to take the kids with him, that was an unneccessary risk, and a stupid one. Luckily, he did get punished...Eureka, however is to forgiving.
I am actually starting to really appreciate the coloring in this series. The way they mix the sky and surroundings with the colors coming from the mechs is extremely nice, and it makes me want to watch more just to see more of the beauty.
Overall, 6/10, this was a good episode, just...I hope the kids have learned not to be annoying.
Edit: And yes, its pretty obvious he was looking at porn, the picture on the front was a nude girl and he only had his boxers on...What else would he be looking at?

Well even if there were pilots they were still trying to kill/gun her and Renton and the kids in the Ner-Vage. I mean yeah maybe you could of just disabled him but that would of probably taken more time to figure out a way to do that wihout killing the "pilot" on board so I kind of appreciated that not really being a conflict. I mean it's kind of interesting when the heroes don't have to worry about casualities of they're enemy or something.
And yeah whoever said that this is the best episode so far wasn't kidding. I mean I was really annoyed with those kids at first (so much so I was imanging Renton actually getting to actually punch one of them. They kind of deserved it, and really deserved after they made him fall down the ladder and drew the elephant over his man-junk) but at least they had a reason behind it: Not wanting anyone to come between them and Eureka being a family. So at least it wasn't you know personal. I just hope the kids learn to treat Renton with respect from now on espically when he didn't tell Holland or the others about them disabling the cloaking shield. And it also should of been made more clear at the end Eureka felt she needed to punish herself for not disicplining her kids. (Which reminds me: how could anyone think that they're her bioligical children anyway? I mean Eureka was mentioned as being 15 or 16 in this ep and one of those kids is at least 7, so unless in this world you could give birth when you're nine years old I doubt anyone would think she's they're REAL mother or something). That's not a plot point you subtley point out, espically when she mentioned earlier wanting to make sure she took care of them correctly and punished them when she needed to.

Renton got punished by Holland because Renton should know better. The kids on the other hand are little kids and while they should be punished for their actions, they clearly don't understand the weight of what they did. Renton on the understand knew what he was doing and did it anyway.
It's pretty much been shown that Renton's knowledge about things like the bird and the bees isn't very well defined. From the sound of it he doesn't know about puberty, so chances are he wouldn't know why it would be improbable, but not impossible, for the kids to be her biological children.
