Hey all,

we are going to call Fred Wolf Films Studios on Friday, hopefully, and we are goign to try and talk to someone directly involved with DVD liscencing and see if they are aware of the crummy transfer job Lions Gate is giving to their star Property.

There's a good chance they don't know. Mirage doesn't get free copies of their own creation, so if FWF dosn't go out and buy one, they wouldn't know about it.

For someone who knows production companies, who should we ask for? I don't think Fred himself would be the proper guy to ask.

Good luck with that. I would look on the DVD credits on the actual disk. There is usually a person who oversees the transfer and I would ask for this person. Aslo, ask if they can put some special features on those puppies.

I'd also ask if the volumes could see a quicker release. There's still 147 episodes and seven more seasons to go.

Not to swamp them with requests, but check if they could get the two-part OVA (subtitled) as special features on a future set.

I'd love to legally see those.

A bit of an update.

We called Fred Wolf Films today. Just a few minutes ago as a matter of fact. We got a very nice lady on the other end, who seemed very knowledgable, and told us two things. 1)We had to contact Lions Gate for all the Details, as they do all the authoring. 2)Volume 5 is already in production.

We called Lions Gate next, got a receptionist. We where given an extension and number, but when called, got the dreaded answering machine. It's around lunch time, CA time, so we'll try again in an hour and ask your questions and ours :).

Look guys, it's an 80's show. The negs are probably long, long gone. Whining about it will just make you look stupid.

Now I'm reasonable about this. I'm happy to get it as is and glad that Vol 5 is in the works but honestly... the video quality is worse than some of my VHS TMNT from years ago and while I know they surely used VHS recordings to make these discs I would really think they could do at least a bit better at transfering the content.

Personally, I have no problem with the transfers. Hell, I haven't even noticed any real problems with my sets outside of the opening credits looking a little worn. Remember, Lion's Gate is giving us 11-13 episode sets for 12.99 and LESS.

Consider this: The more Lion's Gate spends putting these sets together, the more it's going to cost the consumer. I'd rather just have the series released quickly with no bonus features if it's going to keep the releases at a low price.

Better transfers might translate to highter prices, so I say just be happy with what we're getting.

There's a lot of ways Lions Gate could handle the series. I think cramming so many episodes onto a disc is their compromise for not putting a lot of effort into these releases. If they actually cleaned up the video, added bonus features and put everything in a box set people would gladly pay more.

Theres a couple of reasons I haven't been buying the series since vol 1. The video quality I can live with, but one of the drawbacks I find with releasing single discs is that there are always bad episodes mixed in with the good. Episodes that I didn't really care for even as a child. If they'd done a box set it would've been easier for me to take the bad with the good. That and none of the later volumes seem to be showing up at the big retail chains in my area.
