SmackDown! has a new World Heavyweight Championship! At WrestleMania 22 (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=163798), Rey Mysterio did what many thought would be unthinkable when he pinned Randy Orton to win Kurt Angle's Championship. Another Championship changed hands in Chicago when JBL defeated Chris Benoit to win the United States Championship. Also on Sunday, Mark Henry faired no better than the 13 men who have gone before him as the Undertaker's undefeated streak at WrestleMania continued. See the fallout and the return of a mysterious "WWE tradition" tonight on UPN.

Two new champions will celebrate their WrestleMania triumphs when Friday Night SmackDown invades Peoria, Ill., this week.

At WrestleMania 22, Rey Mysterio lived his dream, winning a Triple Threat Match to claim the World Heavyweight Championship. In an emotional moment, Rey celebrated with Chavo & Vickie Guerrero after the match, dedicating the win to the late Eddie Guerrero. As first reported by WWE’s new Mobile Alert system, Mysterio is already set to make his first-ever World Heavyweight Championship defense this Friday night on SmackDown when he takes on the man that called him a charity case - Randy Orton. Did Mysterio prove Orton wrong when he won the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania? Find out more this week on SmackDown.

Also, after falling victim to Undertaker at WrestleMania, Mark Henry has requested to face the Deadman again this week on SmackDown. Will the World's Strongest Man have better luck this time than he did last Sunday night?

Plus, JBL dethroned Chris Benoit at WrestleMania 22 to become the new United States Champion. While Benoit had JBL locked in the Crippler Crossface, the Wrestling God rolled over and used the ropes to get the pin. Will the Rabid Wolverine come after JBL for revenge this week?

Also this week, a WWE tradition will be returning. What is it? Tune into UPN this Friday night at 8/7 CT to find out all this and more.

New theme music is just laughable. No seriously. It is.

Pasted on match up screens are awesome.

Londrick's ring attire is snazzy.

OMG DID LONDON GET A CHANT?! ZOMG DID THE CRUISERWEIGHTS GET POPS?! ZOMFG DID THE CRUISERWEIGHT TEAM JUST WIN?!

WTF was that? Angle slaps Randy and just growls, twitches, and screams 'YEAH!' His character has gone down the toilet.

And I see no signs of Randy's suspension affecting his TV character. He needs to get a better head on his shoulders before he comes back.

Storyline wise: Eddie is your father Dominick. But let's forget about that horrible angle and have a family hug!

Regal as a buxom wench? YEAH BOY!

"YEAH! YEAH! YOUR BUTT IS MINE ORTON!" That was worse than the gorilla Angle earlier tonight. And you gotta love how Orton was hanging in the back. And Finaly and Lashley in the same room and not trying to kill each other? Okay.

If London & Kendrick's victory doesn't mean they're going to add a tag team to their 1-team division, WWE fails.

"What color is that suit? Ostrich?"
LOL, Booker. LOL.

And that folks was the debut of OVW champ Brent Albright to WWE. Though that's quite an unuusal name for him.

OMG DID LONDON GET A CHANT?! I picture Johnny Ace in tha back, flipping open the clear cover to the bright red emergency button. Several miles below Connecticut, a secret committee convenes to develop a Paul London burial strategy. Next week, he'll debut his metrosexual construction worker character who gets a far-away look in his eyes whenever he high-fives small boys in the audience, and engage in a series of jobs against Tatanka.

Good to see the KOTR return. Though I want to see midcarders be pushed like Lashley etc. Not Angle/Orton. I'm curious to see if RAW will be involved too.

Interesting that brock Lesnar was not mentioned with the other KOTR'ers. Niether was oddly enough Kurt Angle who just Yeah'ed his way into hilarity tonight. http://67.18.37.14/html/emoticons/laugh.gif http://67.18.37.14/html/emoticons/laugh.gif http://67.18.37.14/html/emoticons/laugh.gifhttp://67.18.37.14/html/emoticons/laugh.gif http://67.18.37.14/html/emoticons/laugh.gif http://67.18.37.14/html/emoticons/laugh.gif

Very glad that Kendrick/London got the win. Looks like those house show card rumors appear to be true. Awesome match.

Mysterio/Orton as good as it was, wasn't as great as the tag match. I won't miss Orton because of those boring ass chin-locks that he does every match. I counted at least 4 times in which he did this match.

Good to see Dominic again. Thankfully his past wasn't mentioned.

Regal dressed as a wench is not something to look forward. Very disappointed that two fine wrestlers are treated as comedy filler that the crowd could not care lesss about, despite the piped in heat.

And whatever good high Smackdown was on was quickly lowered as Giant singh made his debut. This is someone who I really do not like for various reasons, one of them being he is an awful, awful wrestler.

MNM beat London/Kendrick just a few weeks ago on Velocity. The tag titles weren't on the line then, just as was the case tonight. Any other ref would've probably tumbled to Melina's act by now and tossed the poser princess out. That needs to happen in the title match. MNM is refusing to defend the titles on TV, thinking they've proven that no one can beat them. Well, no one can if it isn't a fair fight. This is how I book the title match:

MNM does their usual entrance, but senior ref Nick Patrick's been assigned the match this time, and, acting on orders from GM Teddy Long, has Melina escorted from the arena immediately. Mercury & Nitro decide they're not going to defend the titles, so Patrick gets on the mic and says that if they refuse to compete, they'll be stripped of the belts right then & there. Kendrick & London come out, and the match gets underway in earnest. Predictably, Patrick is bumped down around the 10:00 mark. Melina comes back, and trips up Kendrick as he attempts Sliced Bread #2 on Nitro. They hit the Snapshot, and Patrick woozily counts the fall. Melina hops in the ring to celebrate, but soon wishes she hadn't. Patrick is still just coming to. Charles Robinson comes out and tells him what happened, pointing to Melina. A video replay further indicts Melina. Patrick sees this, and takes the belts away from MNM. They've been disqualified for interference, and stripped of the titles!

Melina protests backstage to Teddy Long, but Teddy's not having any of it. Melina can't keep her hands off her team's opponents, so he had her banned from ringside. First chance she gets, she violates that stipulation, so guess what? MNM have lost the match and the titles, and the following week, the two teams will meet again, this time in a cage, and this time Melina will not be allowed at ringside. Teddy's taking away MNM's red carpet entrance, and makes mention that he's been in touch with "a few people in Hollywood" who've never heard of Melina. Mercury & Nitro will come down to the ring just like everyone else. No more special treatment.

Ok, maybe that's a little too much, but then, we're dealing with a trio of posers and con artists.

Orton-Mysterio was much better than their last TV match a few weeks ago. 'Nuff said. Once Orton's gone, it'll be easy for Angle to turn heel, and he's the only previous winner of King of the Ring in this year's field. It's Smackdown-exclusive, OBTW. There's only 6 men, so they need 2 more, but who?

I still disagree with J-Me-L as US champ. The video they ran was first used after J-Me-L won the WWE title. It's still lame.

Will Regal as a "buxom wench"? Oy!:p

A restraining order on Boogeyman? That's a last resort scam for frustrated, desperate heels. And you thought Booker didn't fit that profile. Brent Albright debuts as Gunnar Scott (I wonder if that's his real name?), and uses an old Bob Backlund move to beat Booker. Sweet. Teddy gets arrested if Boogey violates the order? Oh, man, that is SO lame. It's also stupid. Not only is Vince getting visibly senile on the air, but his writers are definitely on crack.

But, then, how do you enforce a restraining order on a creature of the night?

Dalip Singh's let his hair down since "Longest Yard". What I find curious is Mark Henry not sticking around for the beatdown on UT. Is Daivari still managing Henry, too? At least Daivari got rid of the polyester suits this week. I give Singh 6 months.

Kurt Angle's new grunting gimmick is played for laughs, right? That can't be serious. He's been reduced to snarling and throwing his feces around...well not yet.

Booker and Sharmel were very funny tonight...but this Boogeyman thing is retarded. Booker really should be doing more than running from some idiot with 4 teeth.

2 great matches...MMM vs. London/Kendrick and the WWH match. Rey is getting annoying though and so is everyone who chants "Eddie" when Rey is wrestling. I'm glad he's getting a run with the title however, he deserves it.

The Giant Gonzolez without the suit vs. UT....thats going to be great. I like Mark Henry because unlike most big men he can work in the ring. But he's being depushed and replaced by the guy from The Longest Yard?

Great to see the show kick off with tag team action. MNM-London/Kendrick put on a good match here and hopefully the cruiserweights bagging the win will lead to a real feud between the teams.

Did Booker say that the Boogeyman violating the restraining order would send Teddy Long to jail? I don’t get it. If Book had left his boss alone, that audio error may not have happened.

Gunner Scott appears to be starting like Gene Snitsky. Snitsky seemed like he was just a jobber and the events of his first match made him more than that. Benoit gave Gunner some love so I suppose so.

Simon Dean in green? YEAH!! The spot with Benoit knocking him off the ‘Dean Machine’ was great. The resident WWE fitness guru had no shot after that.

After seeing that video, it’s no surprise JBL is wearing the United States Championship. His “I am a great American” angle is getting played back up.

Angle SMASH! The former Champion didn’t have much to say to Randy before his match. I guess his actions spoke louder.

The Championship match was a good one to be sure. Orton was suspended before showtime based on when it was posted on the internet so I’m guessing the younger Superstar was trying to pull out all the stops and prove he was worth bringing back when it was over. That dropkick was sick!!

My word, Palmer Canon makes an appearance to disavow The Miz? Geez.

Bloody hell! Pirate Paul is gonna make William Regal dress as a “buxom wench.” Regal is a good comic foil, but not when he is made to be the joke. Maybe once, but not for weeks.

A King of the Ring tournament you say? With Angle vs. Orton plus Booker, Finlay, Benoit, Lashley, Hardy and some other guy? I suppose it’s neat to see it return, but for me the significance of the tournament goes down when all the matches don’t take place the same night. That’s how it was envisioned when Bret Hart won and that’s how it should be. This concept has had some many different versions over the years that I just don’t respect it anymore. If you ask me, being ‘King’ doesn’t mean anything unless you win an eight-man tournment (that people had to qualify for) that takes place in one night.

That was one big man Daivari brought to the ring with him. Not sure if he was there to help Henry and gain revenge on the Undertaker or just to gain revenge. Time will tell I suppose. Are they going to sell this giant as Arabic? He has the look for it.

Mercury & Nitro will come down to the ring just like everyone else. Brackets now up.

I can see Angle against Booker T in the 2nd Round. As well as Finley against Lashley. Setting up Angle vs. lashley and perhaps Lashley becoming the 2006 KOTR.

No word on stipulations or anything, and if RAW will be involved.

It's still there, it's just a really bad cover of it by someone other than Drowning Pool. I don't like it either, the vocals just sound...argh. I don't even know why they changed it. I mean, RAW has had the same theme for years now, and SmackDown seems to change its theme somehow at least ONCE per year.

No word on stipulations or anything, and if RAW will be involved. This looks like it might be SD!-only. Which is kind of a bummer, but I love King of the Ring (I was so pissed when it was replaced by Bad Blood, which was always consistantly bad and thank God was replaced by ECW One Night Stand) so I'm glad it's coming back.

Actually Bad Blood became Vengenance, a RAW PPV (in 2003, Smackdown had that name)

In place of Vengenance, Smackdown got the Great American Bash PPV.

If the KOTR is in some way revealed to be interpromontional, they should've held it back to the next Saturday Night's Main Event.

Jaguar

I think if it truly was going to be interpromotional, it would have been announced at SNME. I think bringing KOTR back is WWE's way of holding interest in SD! in a month where they don't have a SD-only PPV.

Another no talent one-shot big man to feud with taker at the next generic dark themed PPV? Wonderful, just wonderful.

Looking at the brackets, and Benoit/Finlay should NOT be in the first round. When you have the best US wrestler alive and one of the top three right now, that match shouldn't be in the first round. It should be the semis at worst, though as lon as it gets enough time I wouldnt mind. But giving it 12 minutes on SD just doesn't do justice. Out of all those people, and looking at what WWE does with a KOTR winner, I'm betting my money on Lashley winning.

Based on the 8-man field, it is, as I stated before, Smackdown-only.

After seeing the brackets, I can read it this way:

Angle over Orton. That's a no-brainer considering RKO's sitch.
Booker T over Matt Hardy. Makes sense, since Matt's just.....there.
Finlay-Benoit and Henry-Lashley can go either way. Remember, it was Benoit who put Henry out of action 2 years ago with the crossface (to cover a shoulder injury), so there's some history. Likely, though, it'll be Lashley-Finlay. I suspect Angle will be turning heel sometime after Orton's gone, so it'll be Angle-Lashley in the finals. Either Angle wins his 2nd KOTR, or Lashley gets the elevator ride to the main event level.

In regards to Orton's suspension, I read somewhere that it isn't going to take affect til April 12. I forgot where I found this, but its probably true seeing how he is still competing next week(if I'm correct in saying SM is still filmed on Tuesdays).

They've got good article (http://www.wwe.com/shows/smackdown/kingofthering/kotrreturns) over at WWE.com about past KOTRs. It even includes the pre-PPV events and guys who aren't so popular with Vince right now. The weirdest thing is they've still got the Rock on the Raw superstar's page.

the worst was the year when they just got to the point where the final match of the tournament was the only one on the ppv and the rest of the card was just a normal lineup...i hate vince's habit of watering down his concepts...it's like if the royal rumble just have 28 of the guys eliminate each other on a smackdown battle royal and having the final two guys square off in the middle of the ppv.

Paul London and Brian Kendrick versus MNM was the match of the night. They're probably just going to forget that London is the number one contender for the Cruiserweight Championship, but I really don't care. This is a feud I want to see. They just need to give London and Kendrick a team name.

I thought Gunner Scott looked familiar, but I couldn't figure out who he was, so I was still surprised when he was able to beat Booker T. Booker's been great lately, so I'm kind of disappointed that his feud with the Boogeyman hasn't ended.

Chris Benoit versus Simon Dean was just a squash, but the beginning with Benoit clotheslining Simon off of the Dean Machine was pretty funny.

Ugh, not another JBL celebration.

Rey Mysterio and Randy Orton put on a good match, despite Orton using way too many chinlocks and headlocks. There's no reason a match for the World Heavyweight Championship shouldn't be the main event.

Hey, Palmer Cannon's back (briefly) and The Miz still seems annoying.

Paul Burchill versus William Regal was decent. Regal dressing in drag isn't exactly something to look forward to, but I'm glad to see them doing something with Burchill.

Well I'm looking forward to the return of the King of the Ring tournament.

Oh boy, another giant to feud with the Undertaker. I won't pass judgment on him until I see him in the ring, but I've heard nothing but bad things about this new guy.

YAY, another JBL celebration! We got a great wrestling-heavy show, and every non-wrestling bit worked just as it needed to. Two debuts, and one of them builds up a potentially new team with Benoit and Scott. Burchill and Regal rocked hard again, and Regal's sarcastic quips in the back had me rolling.

Additional affiliates could be announced later, but these are the CW affiliates so far. I'm so glad that my local WB! affiliate has signed with the CW, so I will once again be able to watch my Friday Night SmackDown! goodness. If you see your town mentioned but an affiliate isn't shown, it's because they are in negotiations with both the UPN and WB! affiliates, and which one signs with the CW will be announced later.

And that folks was the debut of OVW champ Brent Albright to WWE. Though that's quite an unuusal name for him.
Yeah I wish they would have just let him go under "The Shooter" Brent Albright in WWE it's a good name and it works for him.

I just hope Kennedy returns next week since Smackdown is in his home town. Kennedy needs to be pushed as one of Smackdown's top heels.

The pop he would get for proclaiming that he "hails from Green Bay, Wisconsin" would be astronomical.

I could see them setting up his mega push since it's Orton's last match in WWE for at least 60 days (and possibly ever).

True, but this is the WWE they could turn him heel with the snap of a finger. I'd like to see Kennedy beat down Orton backstage and get himself into the King of the Ring match with Angle and upset Angle. Winning the King of the Ring would do nothing for Angle so keeping him in the tournament would be pointless.

A turn and a turn back would be a bad move in my view. If we as a group are indication, WWE should be very careful have Kennedy do anything to face-like. He's better as a heel, but they only fight the power so long (The Rock, John Cena) before they just give the fans what they think they want.

Oh and thanks for the good news, dan. We'll be happy to have you back. :) I also see that where I lived last year with no UPN is getting The CW on The WB affiliate across the state, which gives that area SmackDown! again.

The current theme song of SmackDown! is "Rise Up" by Drowning Pool, a remake of Johnston's fifth aniversary instrumental. SmackDown! has used three different recordings of the song. The first recording sung by then lead singer Jason 'Gong' Jones was featured in the WWE ThemeAddict: The Music, Vol. 6 album and had numerous different edits of the theme during its use. Within a few months a new recording, again sang by Jones, was used. A third recording made its debut on March 24, 2006, now perfomed by new lead singer Ryan McCombs.

So they replace a song sung by someone else with another version just because that person left the band? Well that's valid and stupid at the same time.
