Howdy,
So I'm looking around on Google for images of Ace the Bathound for potential avatars. Hey, it's Friday and I'm not in the mood to do any real heavy lifting here.
So imagine my surprise when the top result of the second page of results from Googling "ace bat-hound" (http://www.google.com/search?q=ace+bat-hound&hl=en&lr=&start=10&sa=N) turns out to be my lame home page on my lame domain (http://www.edwick.com/), which does not have a reference to "Ace the Bathound" on it anywhere.
They've uncovered my secret identity. Spooooooky.
I'll see if I can grab a screenshot of this when I get home tonight. I think the only place where I make the connection between Ace and that website is my user profile here. I go by "Ace the Bathound" on a few other forums, but usually don't specify an URL.
Here I was vaguely contemplating a name change for TZ News, but it seems that Google, at least, thinks I'm Ace the Bathound. :D

That's odd. I would think a commercial site would always get preference. Maybe I'm strange, but I was a little dissapointed when I discovered a forum screen name could be googled,,, but mine brought up everything but me. *sigh* No one could find me even if they wanted too. :crying:

Search results are actually a pretty unreliable judge of relevance. They aren't based on how commercial they are, either.

Sure they have word ads on the top ans on the sides, but the search results come by popularity and Google's famous Page Rank Algorithms. So the more popular the page is, the close it will be to the top, and the more people wisit the page, the more popular it becomes. I researched this for some time now, on how to boost a sites ratings. Google's ratings can not be manipulated due to their strict unbreakable algorithms they use. There are software out there claiming they can help you with the ratings, but none of them work on Google. Using key words is only part of it, Google index's the entire WWW, so even if the website was not submited to google, it will still be there, and if a website is no longer available, the indexed cached site will still be available (about a week old).
And thats what you get for having a username of an of a widely used word :p. Try googleling Solarflere, it will only point where I have been in the WWW so far.

If anything, this is an omen to keep Lockjaw as your avatar. Everything is made better if Lockjaw is involved. Even avatars.
Seriously, a giant teleporting dog. How does someone not love it? :D

Google tricks, eh? Try typing in "failure" or "French military victories", the press 'I'm feeling lucky'.
"More evil than satan himself" then "I'm feeling lucky" also brings up an interesting result. (Elgoog also works)
Any others?

I never really trust when people say "type this" or "go here". While using the library internet access, I was at a survialist site and at the bottom it had a yes/ no if you from the government. Just to see I clicked yes, it went strait to "other word" hades, literally "other word" hades.com, and said downloading virus amongst other bad things  Then theres always the gotcha games :p

Interesting...
when I google 'beau99' it goes to my Wikipedia profile.
when I google my real name it goes to my LiveJournal.

Googling my name mostly brings up Toon Zone stuff, but I found a gem of a post by banned member RaveMaster1 at another site swearing revenge against me, Sketch, Nickwhiz, Recca, Matt Wilson, and a horde of others.(Man those 'schedule wars' were a hoot).
But yeah, you find really weird stuff on Google.

:D My banner posts on my board showed up in a google search of my name.
I am a point in the vast universe now that I am Googlable :anime:
