How did the games work? I don't see how a video game could be put on a cassette.
When my "Masters of the Universe: The Movie" game stopped working, instead of saying "Loading Masters of the Universe" it said "Loading Big Dog's C***" (the C word wasn't censored). What happened?

Video games can be put on tape, same as any data. Not that I've researched into it, but I always thought the C64 took floppym disks... Learn something new everyday I guess.

The tape drive was more a VIC-20 thing, I think, and was probably already being phased out when the Commodore 64 came out. I think it was an either/or, with the tape drive being cheaper.

My first computer was a Tandy and it took cassettes. The "drive" double-functions as a cassette player. You typed in "LOAD $#%^$%&%" (gibberish representing the game name) and hit PLAY on the tape player. When it was finished loading, the tape player turned off.
It was the slowest way you could possibly load a program, besides punchcards.

That's right, that's right....
you always had to type in
Load "Ultima",8,1
If you forgot the ',8,1' it would tell you to "Press play on tape".

I had a tape powered console once, but it wasn't a Tandy or C64... Not sure what it was to be honest. I know it had Paper Boy on it though.
