The new boxset has the staggered trays which means it's half the size of the old volumes. I wish they'd just use the two DVD slimline boxes if they want to make the collections smaller.

A Stone Aged Parenting Guide 4:07
A clip show that's disguised to look like an educational film about child rearing. Pure time killer.

The Gruesomes' Road to Bedrock 8:28
Earl Kress explains how the Gruesomes evolved. This is actually really informative - he lets us know how the Gruesomes got their start in Snooper and Blabber. We get to see how Michael Maltese "wrote" his scripts - he storyboarded. This is an impressive bonus feature since it seems that too much of the H-B extras are pure fluff.

Gemstone - 4:34

2 ads and a vintage interview

Welch-ade. Fred and Barney play golf, but their game is off. After a bartender serves up the new Welch's grape juice with extra vitamins.

welch's grape jelly - Fred gets a midnight snack of Grape Jelly and explains the process to Peebles. Also promotes the Flintstones grape jelly glasses

Hanna & Barbera explain how the Flintstones evolved. They talk about the enduring qualities of the Flintstones.

Sounds like some decent features. Funny how they're actually doing a featurette about one of the lesser group of characters, the Greusomes.

what's amazing is how H-B tried their hardest to turn the Gruesomes into their own series and it just never made the turn.

I love season 5 mainly because it has my favorite episode, "Dr. Sinister" on it.

Though, I have to say the packaging was done cheaply again like Season 2 where the outside box isn't clear. It's the same thing with the "Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Hour" set. And I hate how the DVDs overlap inside to save room.

I don't get what you're saying. The outside box for Season 2 was clear. They just changed to cardboard boxes (as opposed to plastic) for this wave.

The contents of the Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Hour set aren't even the original 1976 hourlong editions either.

Makes one wonder how things might have turned out had Turner Home Entertainment still controlled the H-B library...and thus and therefore the video/DVD releases.

Somebody unearth a cache of 16mm prints of the original Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Hour fast!! :D

Would this be the same Ted Turner who colorized Casablanca? Cut up Last Tango in Paris? Do you really expect Ted to have respect for Dynomutt?

I went through the features today and they're a mixed bag.

The Gruesomes featurette is undoubtedly the best as it's very informative and interesting.

The Parenting guide was... a waste of time. The set would've been better without it.

And the rareties unearthed was pretty good, but nothing really great. The 2 commercials are nice additions, but seems like a low amount compared to over a dozen on Season 1. And Joe and Bill talking about the show is nothing special. We've all heard the story before.

Yes...and the exact same Ted Turner who restored the Seasons 1 and 2 titles to The Flintstones. And revived the original credit sequences to ABC primetime flops The Jetsons and Jonny Quest.

those were probably not done with Ted's knowledge. Whereas he defended pinking up Bogart. And while the Jetsons and Jonny Quest only lasted one season on prime time, they were far from flops when it comes to making a mint for H-B. You think the folks behind Fish Police wish they had a flop like the Jetsons?

Huh...now that I think of it, you may have a point there, J. Dynomutt wasn't even restored with a laugh track. Or Speed Buggy. Or Capt. Caveman...
