This has to be a joke. I do like this movie, it's a rare film in that it has Jim Carrey and it's good. (the others being Eternal Sunshine.... and the Truman Show)

I did read in USA Today last week that later in the year there will be an animation/live-action film that the station will make exclusively for the network.

Any other movies you wanna dig out of the TBS/TNT vault and air for no apparent reason, CN?

Seriously, I think I'm just going to stop watching CN altogether until this nonsense ceases (which may take a while). I hate to be such a stickler about this but come on, CN, you leave me no choice.

I don't like how CN is putting live action in their toons.

Look at Zixx, for instance...

That is NOT a cartoon, dammit!
It's driving me INSAAAAAAANNNNEEEEEEEEEEE

I remember when I was younger, there was a commercial that said

"We host cartoons, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, forever and ever and ever until the end of time."

I remember it because it scared the crap outta me.

I'm hoping that this and Spider-Man are the rest of the Life Action Movies CN plans on airing. Because they said they would be staying away from life action for the most part and doing stuff like that really isn't helping. Still though, Dumb and Dumber. Makes sense.

CN is dumb in the first place for airing live action movies on a cartoon channel.

And dumber for airing movies that have nothing to do with anything on they're programming block at all. I mean what is the point of airing Dumb and Dumber on CN anyway? I mean really, because I can't think of any.

This is not even a "cartoony" live-action movie they're airing (and IIRC, not very age-appropriate for it being aimed towards the kiddies) I guess The Mask is out of their reach.

okkay, well this is no surprise. CN never show anything worth watching now anyways so as far as im concerned they can show this movie, i'll be too busy watching nicktoons to care.

Do you people like Cartoon Network? Is Cartoon Network a non-profit organization? No, its a business. My guess is Cartoon Network is desperate for ratings because Nick usually trumps it in ratings. It's a sad reality, but if I am going to keep on except shows on the quality of Boondocks, JLU, and Ben10, I am going to have to deal with the fact that CN must take certain measures. Times change. What CN did in the past it can't do anymore.

Funny thing is... I heard their total ratings were better back in the early 00's when they still had vision and wouldn't even think of showing live action movies and hybrid programing.

Yeah, epsically since chances are it will air on Cartoon Network Fridays, a block that's COMPLETLEY guided to children. I really don't see the wisdom in this move, but I think Megaman X said it best.

Maybe cartoonnetwork nos there dumb because there airing dumb and dumber xD

Because sadly it's the most logical reason I can think of for such a move.

My guess it will air during Fridays, but will have to be edited. I recall a lot of innuendo between Jim Carrey and the female lead. I like the movie, but it seems like such an odd film to put on the network. I like the movie for its humor, but I'm still not happy with the network airing live-action. I've read CN's press release about innovative live-action/animation and I'm waiting for it. If this is supposed to tide fans over, it doesn't.

I just hope this ends soon.

I guess it's safe to assume that live-action movies will be a once a month event from now on (Jumanji in December, Snow Day in January, Ace Venture: When Nature Calls in February, & now this in March)...

As someone who has seen D & D in theatres, I can honestly tell you that a lot of the film focuses on gross and sexual humour. I personally found that most of the movie worked off of this kind of humour and to have it cut for a channel like Cartoon Network will leave it pretty hollow unless you're a big fan of Jim Carrey.

Lowest of the low...

They couldn't even air the portion of Naruto when his bowels were acting up in the bathroom, and yet they chose to air a movie that has at least 5 minutes dedicated to the effects of ChocoLax?(or whatever its called)

Nickelodeon is the first kids' network. Nickelodeon has ALWAYS stayed true to its matra of being a kids' network by day, and syndication by night. By now, Nickelodeon could be a channel on its own and spin-off the afterhours they call Nick At Nite, but Nickelodeon didn't. Nickelodeon stays true to its matra and have spun off five separate channels based on the formula, Nick 2, NickToons, Noggin, and TVLand. When people think kids' network, they are gonna think Nickelodeon.

I mean, dumb and dumber? This is not a kids movie in any way. It's childish, yes, but it's still just geared towards adults. I'm sure if you edited enough it could pass off as a stupid, childish movie that's suitable for kids.

Maybe Adult Swim and more grown-up programming on CN has went to their heads? I mean seriously, this has to be a joke. I never knew CN would have to do this. I can't wait for CN to stop producing quality programming like JLU and Teen Titans to show teen dramas.

Tube Dude
03-08-2006, 04:52 PM
"Dumb and Dumber" on CN? This is, literally, dumb.

Why couldn't they just air episodes of the animated series of the movie? It would make more sense than airing the film which is not a film for CN's core demographic, which are KIDS. Why couldn't they at least show The Mask? That has the full feel of a cartoon, plus there is a reedited version that is suitable for the kids to watch.

Long story short, CN has been making some bad moves lately(they will definitely sink into trouble because of the cancellation of Teen Titans). Seriously, the only reason to watch CN is for Adult Swim, Ed, Edd n' Eddy, Cartoon Cartoon Show, and Camp Lazlo.) Other than that, nothing much.

I'll admit, they're airing some movies I like (this and Ace Ventura) but they're not appropraite for a kids network (I know many young kids, even myself at one point, are allowed by their parents to see these movies, but even I don't think most parents would want their kids watching movies like these during the day time.)

I bet they're going to get in trouble eventually (especially TV-14 material during day time without warnings.)

But Cartoon Network seemed to get ratings like crazy when they weren't so desperate.

Yes it's a business, but like many things in life, if you try TOO HARD to accomplish something chances are that you'll simply crash and burn. Sometime to gain true success you have to relax, maybe take a few chances.

And ironically, Cartoon Network, like The Disney Channel and Nickelodeon seemed to get top ratings with ease when they didn't try so hard to beat the competition.

Slight off-topic (Should prove my point though): While Disney may not have made the bucks to out rival Bill Gates in early to mid 90s, I'm betting the company didn't have to resort to measures like closing down any studios like the animation one a few years back. Am I right?

I just hate the fact that CN is airing live action movies. Regardless of what movie it is. WHY? Why can't they just air older cartoons if they are hungry for ratings? Ratings would poor in if they started airing the original Transformers series. And maybe Thundercats, He-Man etc. And for the girls, what about some of the old Strawberry Shortcake, Rainbow Brite, Carebears etc? I wish they would show Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo, and Courage the Cowardly Dog episodes again. Those are the shows that brought the ratings. I like some of the new stuff but most of it pales in comparison to those shows. I know, I'm a newbie and my opinion means squat.:p

Technically, they do -- they're on the Cartoon Cartoon Show. I still am disappointed in the network for trying to become something that they're not (I mean, it's like they're trying to become one of its 'sister' stations -- TBS, for example). Unfortunately, I'm assuming that live-action films are doing well enough to continue to air them.

Nick having the airing rights to the Scooby Doo Movie is probably a main reason why they haven't considered airing it even thought Time Warner owns and produced the movie. They could air Space Jam and/or Looney Tunes: Back In Action though.

One must ask why CN made such an odd decision like airing a live-action movie on an all-cartoon channel. If CN wants to air live-action movies, why not air "Space Jam" or any of the "Scooby-Doo" movies?Putting a live-action movie that has nothing to do with animation on an all-cartoon channel makes as much sense as the Soap Opera Channel airing "Looney Tunes".

I could see CN ariing 'Dumb & Dumber', but only if they were doing it as a promotion for to the animated series.

CN could do a 'movie and a marathon' week, using five - seven of the following films, with the animated series that went with it:

- The Mask
- Dumb & Dumber
- Ace Ventura
- Batman
- Free Willy
- Problem Child
- Beethoven
- An American Tale/Fievel Goes West (Fievel's American Tales)
- the Back to the Future trilogy
- My Little Pony
- Transformers
- G.I. Joe
- Pound Puppies & The Legend of Big Paw
- The Chipmunk Adventure
- The Care Bears Trilogy
- The Dukes of Hazzard
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
- The Flintstones
- The Jetsons
- Scooby Doo
- Josie & The Pussycats
- Sabrina the Teenage Witch
- The Little Rascals
- Richie Rich

I'm sure there are more, but ALL of these films have an animated counterpart.
