The Frieza Saga on Cartoon Network

http://www.geocities.com/gohan2000_nz/Frieza_Saga_Gm.jpg

Goku continues his struggle to bring down the evil tyrant Frieza. Last week, Goku switched his tactics from a direct assault on Frieza to his trump card: the spirit bomb. The back and fourth battle continues this week as the each of the fighters are able to take control of the fight only to loose it and then, the legend comes true!

Dragonball Z: Mon-Thursday at 10:30

This weeks episodes:

Monday - Keep the Chance Alive
Yamcha, Tien, and Chiaotzu are shivering in their boots when the members of the Ginyu Force pay them a surprise visit at King Kai's planet! Meanwhile, back on Namek, Frieza puts a stop to Goku's struggling efforts to gather enough energy to form the Spirit Bomb, and Piccolo has to intervene to buy Goku the precious time that he needs!

Tuesday - The Power of the Spirit
Chaos erupts on King Kai's peaceful planet as the Z soldiers battle the Ginyu Force! Back on Namek, a life and death struggle between Piccolo and Frieza buys Goku the time he needs to finish gathering enough energy to form the Spirit Bomb! And when Goku scores a direct hit on Frieza, it looks like the battle is over at last!

Wednesday - Transformed At Last
A tender victory celebration comes to a crashing halt when Frieza reappears on the battlefield! With no reserves left, Goku watches helplessly as Frieza fells Piccolo and destroys Krillin. Enraged by the loss of his friends, Goku suddenly undergoes a wild transformation! What does this mean? Who is the man of gold?

Thursday - Explosion of Anger
Engulfed in a shimmering aura of golden light, a completely rejuvenated Goku announces that he is now a Super Saiyan! Frieza is curious but unimpressed, until the fighting begins, that is! In a raging battle, Frieza is horrified when he realizes that Goku is now superior to him in every way!

This should be a good week for DBZ, any news on if this will continue in another timeslot after AS gets this timeslot?

Another question: will CN air the Garlic Jr. Saga or Trunks Saga after they complete Frieza's run?

The first super saijan fight is the one I always like to watch, when Frieza finally sees what's up with Goku.

as much time as Tien and Yamcha has spent training with King Kai, that Ginyu fight should not have taken so long.

And as many times as i've watched Goku go SS 2 and 3, the first one still gives me chill bumps.

next episode: Goku gives Frieza a preview of what's to come

Like Piccolo said, they're both monsters. One good, one evil. Someone being that powerful and still having a childlike innocence is pretty eerie, even if he is the good guy.

I'll never stop laughing at Frieza's one-liner. Makes him an all-around jerk.

Anyway, this episode remains in my top five favorite DBZ episodes. Just seeing Goku like that gives you chills down your spine specially considering the naive/innocent nature of the man. I agree with the top poster that it is kind of eerie. The Japanese version is just as intense in my view. :)

Always nice to see Goku becoming Super Saiyan for the first time. "I won't let you get away with this!!"

Now comes my favorite part of the whole Goku-Frieza fight. Frieza getting his butt kicked just like any good supervillain should. :p

Great episode. 5/5 (I don't give many episodes of DBZ this grade but this episode simply remains a favorite of mine.) Looking forward to tonight's episode.

I felt so excited when I got to see Goku go Super Saiyan that I had recorded it. This episode is a classic to me.:anime: I hope CN let the episodes go far enough where I can get see Gohan go both Super Saiyan 1 and 2.:p

I would like to see that too. Sadly at some point soon though, AS is also going to take the 10PM slot as well (I don't exactly know when but I'm speculating May) which would mean that DBZ is going off the schedule. Since I doubt CN would get rid of one of they're beloved repeat slots of Ed Edd n Eddy or Billy and Mandy so DBZ could take the 9:30PM slot. We should at least get to see the Garlic Jr/Trunks Saga full view though.

well, it's been said in another thread that DBZ might take One Pieces spot.

i hope that turns out to be true ... Cartoon Network needs classic DBZ on the schedule, so that at least one thing can stay the same on this ever changing network

DBZ is Taking One Piece's Spot on AS Expands to 10:30 starting March 27th. That's not what I was saying. What I was saying that AS is ALSO expanding to 10PM, and there is no way CN will let DBZ take over any other slots before that since they're not going to get rid of a rerun of they're precious originals.

More on topic, tonight's episode is pretty good. I always liked the "Ally to good, nightmare to you!" speech. I can see why that made it into one of the original Tooanimi intros for the Freeza Season.

Hmm, actually last I heard AS expands to 10 PM Weeknights by June. So, I speculate that we might see the rest of the Android Saga and the first part of the Imperfect Cell arc. Unfortunately, I doubt we'll be seeing Perfect Cell gracing his presence on CN again. :(

Makes me actually wish AS didn't have to expand on weeknights if this were the case.

Oh well, there's always my DVDs and CN On Demand for me to see the Cell Games.

Just wish they find a place for classic DBZ.

Yeah I'm also hoping they aleast air it until the finale of The Cell Games. I also think DBZ Season 4 is the probely the best season of the entire series, because each episode of that season kept in my seat to keep wondering what is going to happend next. Espeically the entire Android 18 Vs. Vegeta fight.

As I stated before, CN is NOT going to loose a rerun of one of they're precisious originals for Dragonball Z. I know it's stupid but it's just the way CN works I'm afraid.

or move it to Toonami.

No room. When Toonami rearranges itself after the Miyaki/Ulitmate Avengers movies, it will still be airing new Transformers Cybertron, Zatch Bell, Naruto (with a necessary repeat slot) One Piece, Bobobo-Bo-Bo-BoboBo, and Justice League Unlimited episodes. There is a slim chance it could move to the 7:30PM slot where Teen Titans repeats are airing (since that was afterall the slot DBZ last played at) but DBZ didn't really get the highest ratings at that spot either, and I doubt anyone would be interested in seeing them played only one a week.

But yeah since the move will probably be in June we'll at least get the Andriod Saga. Not much else afterwards probably.

Man, just seeing Goku owning Frieza like that turns the whole fight around. You reap what you sown, Frieza.

"You will know the horror, Frieza!"

"Your evil deeds are like a nuce around your neck!"

"You can destroy planets but you can never destroy what I am, friend."

"I am the hope of the universe! I am the answer to all living things that cry out for peace. I am protector of the innocent. I am light in the darkness. I am truth. ALLY TO GOOD, NIGHTMARE TO YOU!"

Indeed, the sleeper has awakened. Wow, I can write a whole biography on Goku with these quotes.

I've enjoyed these episodes up until the infamous 'Longest five minutes in history'. Now, we'll see more of Super Saiyan Goku in action.

I give this episode a 4.2/5.

I'd love to see them continue into Season 4. While Season 3 was the one that officially hooked me, Season 4 (remember when it premered with 92 "new" episodes back on Toonami... ) was what kept me watching.

Aye, it sucks but nothing much can be done. I just wanted to see Perfect Cell get his spotlight for one last time. Oh well. As I've said before, I still have my DVD uncuts and CN on Demand to watch the rest of the Cell Saga.

No room. Can't argue with this. There is simply no room with new shows and episodes coming up. It didn't do well at 7:30 PM (for either the uncut or cut episodes). A show like DBZ only works better if it's 4-5 times a week daily. Plus, Toonami has already moved on from DBZ (unless it's the movies. Those need to be shown seriously.)

But yeah since the move will probably be in June we'll at least get the Andriod Saga. Not much else afterwards probably.

I speculate we might get as far as the first episodes of the Imperfect Cell arc. If the expansion takes place in the middle or tail end of June, the further we'll get will be probably up to the Piccolo vs Android 17 fight.

Seconded. I do believe it was 77 'new' episodes for the priemere for Season 4. But, yeah, bring on Season 4! Or least what they can show before the expansion in June.

Ah yes...Goku goes Super Saiya-jin. This story made that title a common anime phrase for power-up.

Which canon Kuririn death do you prefer? The first one in the Piccolo Saga in Dragonball, or this one? I tend to lean to the former.

Geez, Sonny Strait seems to be typecast playing 'best friend characters' who die (Hughes...). Perhaps we're going to see FMA's Mustang go Super-Alchemist...

What caused Goku's Super Saiya-jin transformation, Kuririn's death or a combination of that as well as the previous atrocities Freeza committed? (Vejita, the Saiya-jin race, the Namekian race...) I chose the former. Keep in mind that the rage over Frieza's genocidal actions didn't seem to help Goku much by the time of the Genkai Dama. Afterwards he was too exhausted to fight. Had Freeza decided not to take out Goku's friends afterwards, he would have won the fight.

I prefer the later, because it's the one I saw first (yeah I'm only a poor dubbie who never saw the original Japanese episodes) and it seemed a lot more cruel and moving. Also Krillin's death in Dragonball was a flashback, and it can be more impactful actually seeing the events in "real time" then just flashing back on them.

Next week: the longest 5 minutes ever.

Actually next week is 2 minutes of the longest five minutes ever. The week after that is 2 more minutes of the longest five minutes ever. And then the week after that finally ends the longest fives minutes ever. Just to be technical and all. (And also to make even more fun of the whole 5 minute ordeal. I mean minutes does Freeza go by? Ones that last an hour?).

Well actually they didn't even air the whole Freeza saga either. They started midway through it (The Episode where Freeza transforms into his third form) so we'll be going from the middle of one saga to the middle of another. There is NO chance that AS would air DBZ, but there might be a very, very slim chance that CN will air it. IF it gets enough ratings, they might let it have the 9:30 slot. But that's still a big and imporbable if.

While Krillin's death in Dragonball was heartbreaking, I prefer the death by Frieza's hands because it had more impact to me. I really hated Frieza (in a good-villain sort of way) then. Plus, seeing Goku turn Super Saiyan and beating Frieza around like a jobber is always good to watch. Then, again I've always preferred Z more to it's predecessor (But I still enjoy Dragonball). Even to this very day, Frieza remains one of the top heels (wrestling term for villain) in anime fandom. He'd probably be the ultimate heel.

Anyway, the battle should have been at least 3-5 hours instead of five minutes. Then again, we shouldn't really think too much when it comes to DBZ. :p

As I've said before, the further we'll get to will probably be after the few Imperfect Cell episodes. If the AS expansion takes place in mid or late June, we might get as far as Piccolo's fight with 17. We'll see from now until June.

Man Krillin's death seems so hacked... but I haven't actually seen that uncut.

Good ol Goku going SSJ for the first time. Always a great moment. One of the best in all of DBZ. And then they ruin it by using the crappy animators in the next episode. At least Monday's episode will look MUCH better.

DBZ manages to survive the 10:30 cut-off so I think as long as the ratings are good it'll stay pre-Adult Swim even when it expands to 10PM. They just switch it into Xiaolin Showdown's 9:30 spot (which is just an encore anyway). But it all depends on who gets the best ratings.

Zatch Bell and Naruto deserve a shot at weekdays though and CN might give it up for one of them instead.

But at the moment they are letting a non-CN original air in 4 slots of 6-11PM out of 10. You loose 2 of those slots and they'll probably still allow 2 for non-CN content.

06:00 - Ben 10 (CN content) - if it isn't on Miguzi starting in May
06:30 - Ed, Edd n Eddy
07:00 - Foster's Home
07:30 - Kids Next Door
08:00 - Billy and Mandy
08:30 - Other CN Original (probably a double)
09:00 - Naruto / Zatch Bell
09:30 - Dragonball Z
10:00 - [adult swim]

Makes for a good summer line-up.

They will be shooting themselves in the foot is Naruto isn't in prime time this summer and as long as DBZ does well it shouldn't leave either. I want season 4 and ALL of season 4. Come Fall that slot can be given to another series that does well (hopefully one that's on Toonami like Bo-Bobo or Zatch Bell).

Well, didn't expect the Fantasy Schedule Pimp to show up. I always love your fantasy schedules, man.

Yeah, I would think if DBZ continues pulling in ratings in it's current spot and the 10 PM slot, then I could see it moving into 9:30 PM and knock Xiaolin Showdown off. I didn't even know a re-run for XS was on before One Piece to be honest. I thought it was still Ed, Edd n Eddy. If that's the case, it's possible.

Yes, Zatchbell really needs a weeknight slot to run all of those episodes. It's the #2 rated show on Toonami and it still doesn't get a spot? Hmmm... I have no doubt Naruto will get a weeknight run. I could see it being a replacement for DBZ once the Cell Saga ends. But, I think I would rather have a Naruto-DBZ hour before AS. Or Zatchbell-Naruto could work for me just fine, too.

Nice schedule and definitely a good summer line-up. I'm with you. I want to see ALL of DBZ Season 4. No need to air the Buu Saga. We've seen enough of that (and I already own the whole thing in my DVD sets).

But it's like Ultra Mike said, he mentioned CN Originals and how they won't sacrifice anymore CN original spots in favor of DBZ. We'll see how everything turns out. I know I'm shooting off my mouth here (and it's not really in my nature) but I just had to speak my mind. I'm not the best debator in the world but I try...

Arigato. If there's an oportunity to speculate a schedule, you can bet I'll be there ready with one of mine. :anime:

Yes they consider CN original time more important than DBZ and that could eventually get DBZ booted but. Right now 2 hours of the 5 6-11PM is non-CN content. So when AS takes 1 hour of that they probably will still have an hour of non-CN content in prime time. So there's enough for DBZ to stay even if Xiaolin does but all depends on how well DBZ does in the coming month and if they decide they'd rather air another acquired show in prime time and give DBZ a rest.

Man Krillin's death seems so hacked... but I haven't actually seen that uncut.

Well according the old Dragonball Z Uncensored site, there was only about less then a second taking out of Krillin blowing up that made it seem more graphic. But only like 10 frames or so were taking out while the rest was left in.

And yeah it will depend on the preformence of DBZ concerning if it will stay on primetime. But it must of been doing better then One Piece in primetime right? (And don't say that OP was taken off primetime since it already aired on Miguzi. CN would not care about that. They've taken off shows to make more reruns of shows already airing a few times a day, and they'd do it again just as quickly.

Krillins death wasn't really all that different uncut. Funi just cuts like... A second of Krillin's body beggining to expand.

Actually, the DB Kuririn death scene I'm speaking about wasn't the flashback, but Goku's discovery. He sees Kuririn go away to recover his Dragon Ball, feeling a little uneasy about it. Then at dinner, he gets this horrible feeling. He charges back to the Tournament grounds, where he is horrified to see Kuririn's body. Then the scene just freezes with Goku staring angrily over his best friend's corpse.

I felt that had more impact than the flashback showing Tambourine doing the evil deed. Sometimes the death scene require other character's reaction to make it more powerful.
