I know what you're saying, "But MDawg, people love FPSes and MMOs!" Yeah, if everyone wanted to play the same old thing with some minor upgrades year after year that is :p

Well anyways, on my daily traversing of the net I found this video (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8372603330420559198&q=spore) which I'm sure a number of you have already seen (It's 35 minutes, but you really have to watch the entire thing to get the scope of the full project).

I haven't been this impressed by a game's power ever. If Will Wright and his team can actually make it work as shown in this footage, I will plunk down the cash for whatever PC I need to get that will support this game and kick my P3 600 to the curb.

This is the kind of game I'd half-expect from a foreign producer, because lately, much like the movie industry, American game developers have reached a point of stagnation. I'm glad there are still people out there willing to innovate and not just rehash stuff that has worked in the past.

Heh, a year since the full hour long video has been released and just now people are discovering the game...

I will admit that I'm considering getting a new PC just for this game, but the reality is that if the game becomes popular, I could just wait another year and see a version of the game put on every console and handheld under the sun.

EA has already announced that console and handheld versions will be released. I doubt they'll be as robust as the PC version, though; the concept relies on extremely dynamic content creation, which equates to a huge amount of processing power (to carry the burden for the lack of code) and storage space/memory (to store the created content). Next-gen consoles may be able to handle it, but the whole thing will have to be significantly dumbed down to work on current-gen consoles and handhelds.

That said, I'm still really looking forward to this game.

Anyone have an idea when this game is expected to come out?

I've got a buddy who play-tests for EA and could theoretically get it for me cheap ^__^

Presumably, it will be out by year's end. EA doesn't tend to rush Wright, though, so we'll see.
