View Full Version : CN World...a show?

OK, from when Cartoon Network recieved their "make over", featuring bumps with nearly all their characters (old and new) interacting in a CGI city, it got me thinking...would this be good as an actual show? I've always had this thought that every Channel has its own "universe" featuring the shows they air, and Cartoon Network has to be the biggie in my opinion. I mean, some even have shows crossing over each other, which really got my imagination cogs in gear for CN...
Anyway, here's some points for and against this idea:
YES because there are plenty of characters to work with here from over 50+ shows - it's an interesting concept to mix characters up in different scenarios, provided that each episode would be cleverly written, keeping every character in...well...character and the possibility of bringing back Golden Age Characters from the decades (I'd personally love to see characters like "The Blue Racer" or Secondary "One-off" Looney Tunes making a comeback!)
NO because judging from the bumps, the combined animation of Hand Drawn, Flash or CGI would cost a lot to do for every 60 second piece. Plus, it might be kind of hard to get every show's creators, writers and voice actors involved to ensure and supervise that all goes well with every episode.
Well, there's my thoughts typed outloud. But what about everyone else here - do you agree/disagree? Or would you possibly fancy posting possible ideas for fantasy episodes of what could go on? It's fun! ;)

No. It wouldn't work.

It could work, but there would be too many characters, including from the non-CN shows. Personally, I like some the short intereaction animated shorts.
Examples:
-Johnny Bravo & Samurai Jack washing their clothes at the cleaners.
-The racing one with Megas XLR & The Mystery Machine.

Have you seen the work of bleedman. He often incorporates many cartoons into his comics, and IMHO does a rather good job of it too. So I don't think its impossible. Like any other show it will depend on the quality of the writers and artists. And correct me if I am wrong but there will be fairly massive legal hurdles over copyrights.

I'd watch it. I don't know if it would do too good ratings wise, but I know I would watch and enjoy it.

Oh, heck why not go all out with cross-overs:
Johnny Bravo: [poses] Hey there my two little Chick-a-ritas how would you like to go out with a real man.
Sailor Neptune: [whispers something into Johnny's ear]
Johnny Bravo: Soooooo... *sniff* [raises eyebrow] ...can I watch.
Sailor Neptune and Uranus:  ...
Johnny Bravo: This won't end well.

As a series, no. As a special, I think something could work out... the clashing of animator styles would be tough, but many crossovers have been made and movies like Who Framed Roger Rabbit had a huge style clash with Disney and Warner Bros. characters yet it's a very well produced movie!
So again, no to a show, yes to a special (or movie, whatever.)

I agree with the above poster. A special would work better. But it better incorperate Miguzi and Toonami (heck, even Tickle U)... or else. :p
I'd like to say that I've been thinking about this ever since I saw that bumper that had Juniper Lee going through the subway to get to a giant monster, only to find out the Powerpuff Girls were already there (even though the giant monster being visible to humans raises some plotholes).

Hmm...a CN Special? That actually sounds better than a TV Series, anyway. With all these live-action and CGI Movies on Cartoon Network recently, they ought to make something like that as a movie-type special. Here's a sample:
"The cassic characters (Like Warner Bros and Hanna Barbara) are causing a war between them and the Newer Cartoon Stars because they feel overshadowed by the "CARTOON Cartoons". Animated chaos erupts until another larger foe emerges from the shaows - an evil lord declares that the entire Cartoon Universe will be taken over by 3D Animation, abolishing 2D Animation forever! It's up to our favorite characters - old AND new - to try and defeat this lord and save their universe from becoming 3D Land!"
 Yeah, it may not sound great but it's a possible way to spread the word of what CN has become nowadays...

I'd say no, because there are too many characters in said bumpers that are too poorly animated. Billy & Mandy ones for example, which go by the original concept artwork. The Eds as well. Notice that a lot of bumpers featuring the Eds either look really off-model or are just slightly animated re-used stock images.

CN versus Boomerang: The Big Game. And while 3D may have vanquished 2D in feature animation, we all know the dark spectre looming over Cartoon Network is not 3D animation, but those horrible live-action movies.

Cross-overs are always fun, but when you start mixing worlds, there are conflicts. I always thought that Batman: The Animated Series lost a lot of realism when you mixed in the Superman legends. Bruce's anger, fueled by his parents' death, seems almost trivial compared to the galaxic struggles they faces on Justice League. I think an entire show in this CGI would would be great for a bunch of short cartoons, but not for a full 22-minute episode. Way too many conflicts here and holes in plot.
