View Full Version : I'm sorry, but this has to be said about Boomerang.

This network is horrible. It does a very, very bad job of representing classic cartoons. It shows the same repetitive shows every day. I'm 32 years old and I remember cartoons when they were at their height in popularity. I honestly believe I could do a much better job of running that network than the person they have in charge. Honestly, how hard could it be? Since Boomerang is a classic cartoon network, it has probably over a thousand different cartoons to chose from, but for some unexplained reason, it only chooses a few.

I hope someone from Boomerang reads this because I'm gonna give you an example of what a classic cartoon network's lineup should look like.

Saturday Lineup:

7:00 am-9:00 am: Looney Toons
9:00 am-10:30 am: Smurfs
10:30 am-12:00 pm: Superfriends
12:00 pm-1:00 pm: Flintstones Comedy Hour
1:00 pm-2:00 pm: Shazam/Isis Hour (I know they're not cartoons, but they were apart of classic Saturday mornings)
2:00 pm-3:00 pm: Scooby Doo Movies
3:00 pm-3:30 pm: Alvin and the Chipmonks
3:30 pm-4:00 pm: jose and the Pussycats
4:00 pm-4:30 pm: Mighty Mouse and Heckle and Jeckle
4:30 pm-5:00 pm: Richie Rich
5:00 pm-5:30 pm: Snorks
5:30 pm-6:00 pm: laff O Lympics
6:00 pm-6:30 pm: The Flintstones
6:30 pm-7:00 pm: The Jetsons
7:00 pm-8:00 pm: The Tom and Jerry Show
8:00 pm-8:30 pm: Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids
8:30 pm-9:00 pm: Scooby Doo
9:00 pm-10:00 pm: Tarzan Advanture Hour
10:00 pm-11:00 pm: Looney Toons
11:00 pm-12:00 am: The New Adventures of Popeye
12:00 am-1:00 am: The Pink Panther
1:00 am-3:00 am: Hanna Barbera cartoons (Wally Gator, Yogi Bear, Quick Draw, ect)
3:00 am-4:00 am: Banana Splits
4:00 am-4:30 am: Pacman
4:30 am-5:00 am: Godzilla
5:00 am-5:30 am: Superman
5:30 am-6:00 am: The Batman
6:00 am-6:30 am: Thundercats
6:30 am-7:00 am: Battle of the Planets

That's just an example lineup and I would try to purchase ABC's "School House Rock" informercials. Why not? And for Sundays and weekdays, I'll have many of the same but I'll add cartoons like Battle of the Planets, The classic He-Man, ThunderCats, Transformers, Voltron, G.I. Joe, She-Ra, Marvel and DC classic comics and a few more. Tell me that's not a good lineup.

Whoa, that is definatly an improvement from what Boomerang shows nowadays (If residing in the UK) - before they used to show Looney Tunes, Hanna-Barbera, DePatie-Freleng...now we've got some of the Cartoon Network Shows creeping in without warning! Since when were they considered "Golden Age" Classics!?

Boomerang is all about running shows that they don't have to pay for such as all the H-B cartoons. The lack of LT/MM, Popeyes and non-T&J MGM cartoons is pathetic - why did they have to yank the Acme Hour?

With the channel's low subscriber rate, I'm starting to wonder how long it'll last before Turner either pulls the plug or retools it to meet a different animated need (like how the Nashville Network became Spike TV). Look at that fact that Turner South got sold off to Fox. There's no loyalty when it comes to unloading underperforming carriage space.

It's a sign of the times. The kiddies don't like the old toons and their aren't enough older animation fans to keep boomerang's ratings at a good level. It's just as well as of late I've pretty much given up on American animation as it is. It's not as good as it used to be. Too much crap is being put out to make money. I know they did this in the past but as of late it feels like everbody and their crime solving dog has picked up or made some half-assed attempt at a cartoon show. Hopefuly DVDs will solve your problem assuming they put out the shows you like.

I think kids can like older cartoons---they just don't get to see them at all thanks to current-day network management mentality. Wonder how they expect to keep selling "Cocoa Pebbles" or Bugs Bunny merchandise if kids aren'te exposed to their cartoons, though (wonder what kids these days make of the Pebbles cereal ads---"two weird-dressed guys with bare feet fighting over cereal... weird, dude...").

You took the words right out of my mouth. I agree 150%.

I got Boomerang just last year. Why? Because at that time they were showing Tom & Jerry at 8 and Looney Tunes at 9 every night of the week. Now we have NO Looney Tunes at all and the same episode of "What's New Scooby-Doo" about 4 times a day. Needless to say, I don't flip over to this channel anymore.... :(

has Boomerang made any new promos since it went on the air? A big problem with the channel is that it doesn't want to engage the viewer. There should be little 5 minute shows like what VH1 does with "I Love the 70s" based on the various cartoons - this way they can have fans go on about Inch High Private eye and other H-B classics. They can even give the history of a character or show people who have collected odd H-B toys (and what they're valued at).

The name and slogan of the channel itself, Boomerang - It's All Coming Back to You Now was supposed to imply that classic old shows would be shown 24 hours a day. I guess classic now equates to about two years ago. What happened to showing Pac-Man, Paw Paws, and the like? What I really wanna see is obscure HB or Ruby Spears shows, like Saturday Supercade, Gilligan's Planet, etc.

And what's the deal with toon heads? Would it hurt to produce newer episodes? I believe I've seen every episode atleast 5 times already. I used to love getting up on Saturday mornings with a bowl of sweet cereal and look at cartoons for about 6 hours and I thought Boomerang would bring some of those memories back, sadly, I was wrong.

Eventually, I hope, an alternative classic cartoon network is created that gets it right.

(Booboo BabaDeeDee, Cartoon Network Rap, the two "Cartoon Museum" excellent CGI background pieces; etc).
They have partly done this with the "Shorty" clips, which are like mini cartoon episodes. Those were the newer CN productions; It's the older stuff that needs to be added to it.

What's sadder is that they DON'T have commercials and is wondering why Boomerang is leaking cash... I mean even TV Land, founded on the same principle of Retro, has modern-day commercials (And if they are lucky, an existing company gets advertisment with a Retromercial, even!). I mean imagine how sucessful Boomerang might be if it showed the original G.I. Joe and also advertised the new G.I. Joe Sigma 6 figures. Or had Scooby-Doo, Where are You! and also advertising the latest Scooby-Doo movie! Buy up the rights to something old but still a franchise like the Orginal TMNT series or The Super Mario Bros. Super Show and advertise thier most recent products. I'm willing to bet fans of the old shows will be willing to buy up some of the new stuff out.

UK Boomerang is going to pot. I mean, they show Camp Lazio on it now. Didn't that only debut a few months ago? It's not even remotely 'retro' in any sense of the word. Same could go for Fosters which is also on there. It's bad enough that they mainly show just modren versions of ld characters like..*shudder* Baby Looney Tunes...but I don't get why they're showing cartoons that coouldn't be any more modren unless you slapped some 3D in them.

i agree. boomerang shouldnt even be THINKING about puttin camp lazlo or fosters home for imaginary friends (which replaced animaniacs i might add , a show that was alot more appropriate for the channel) on there. they are NOT classic shows. especially not camp lazlo coz like u said it only debuted a few months back. maybe in 10-15 years i could understand them showing these on boomerang.. but not now.

isnt boomerangs slogan "boomerang, its all coming back to you"? im not sure if thats only an american thing but even so im sure it would be applied in the UK. how the hell can u get nostalgia and that "its all comin back to you" feelin from a show thats only been on the air for a few months?
