Sheesh! Wotta mouthful! :ack:
Here are some Filmation entries which I fancy, like both the Gilligan incarnations (The New Adventures Of Gilligan and Gilligan's Planet), Archie's Funhouse, both The Adventures Of Batman & Robin (1968) and The New Adventures Of Batman (1977), and Shazam!.

Me too. I actually kinda preferred She-Ra when I was a 10-year-old-girl but I have to vote for He-Man as being a better show.

Go to TVshowsondvd.com for news when it comes. Reports have said a dvd (not necessarily the first season) will be released by early July, just like last year's he-man best of. So, my guess is the Secret of the Sword movie which is the first 5 episodes of She-Ra condensed into a movie format.

It wasn't a show per se, but Pinocchio and the Emperor of the Night was a Filmation movie back in 1987. Scary as all get out.

As far as I'm concerned, the best Filmation show of all of them is Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids. If Boomerang can give airtime to Fat Albert, Bill, Russell, Weird Harold, Mushmouth Mallard, Bucky, Rudy, and Dumb Donald, that would be gratifying. I also like the Brown Hornet as well as Legal Eagle. I'm not going to forget Fat Albert's elderly friend, Mudfoot Brown. You can thank Bill Cosby, the show's creator and host, for giving us a true cartoon classic. I just wonder after seeing the feature film if Fat Albert and the gang will return in animation form, even after the Filmation studios closed its doors for good in the 1990's? Who really knows!

I know He-Man's the more popular show, but She-Ra's my favorite. No other superwoman at the time could match her.

I voted for "Star Trek", but frankly it could just as easily been any of at least a half dozen others. "Everything's Archie" has to be one of the best SatAM series ever made (though even its better sequel seasons didn't quite measure up to the first season). I remember "The Secret Lives of Waldo Kitty" and "Will the Real Jerry Lewis Please Sit Down" as being among my favorite shows at the time, though unlike "Archie", I haven't seen them recently to see how well they stand up over the years. With its good casting and fantastic score, "Shazam" would win over everything hands down, if only it had caught more of the magic of the original comics series. "Tarzan" was a favorite, though not the later "Super 7" sequel. Both "Batman" series were good (the "Superman" one, unfortunately, doesn't stand up well under modern viewing), "Flash Gordon" is fairly good, especially the two-hour movie version.
Of course, Filmation's signature series was "He-Man", which was serviceable at the worst, and could be surprisingly great on occasion (my two favorite episodes were when Teela and He-Man confronted a dragon to save Men-at-Arms--the only time I had the feeling that the series stepped into true classic fantasy territory--and the teamup between Teela and Evolyn--a classic primer on how to do a fast-paced action episode right--too bad Filmation characteristically undermined both with weak sequel episodes). "She-Ra" was actually starting to go into some interesting places when it got the ax (particularly in regard to She-Ra's pirate boyfriend). While I never saw the movie, I did see it remade into the initial five episodes of "She-Ra", and rate it as among Filmation's best work, though the Pinnochio movie "Emperor of the Night" may well have been Filmation's magna opus (unfortunately, I found their third movie "Happily Ever After" to be weak and pedestrian).

I voted for "Star Trek", but frankly it could just as easily been any of at least a half dozen others.
The fact that Filmation were chosen to do an animated Star Trek series speaks volumes about the company, and their respect for viewers' intelligence (if not their eyes! ;) ). Filmation always skewed towards an older, more mature audience than Hanna-Barbera's series. It's just a pity Filmation's animation itself was so constrained by their stock system.
Filmation's character designs and backgrounds were always nicely detailed, but the rest of their typical animation style will not look good to anyone who values dynamic animation above decent stories.
Both "Batman" series were good (the "Superman" one, unfortunately, doesn't stand up well under modern viewing)
I think the 1969 Adventures of Batman series comes off better than most of the Superman episodes since Filmation were obviously using the seminal live-action series as a template. Likewise, the 1977 New Adventures of Batman boasted the talents of the definitive Batman & Robin actors, and hence automatically gets bonus points for appropriate casting!
Having said that, I do think the last season of Superman episodes was a lot better than the initial ones, mainly due to the episodes being longer, and perhaps slightly more like the comics.
While I never saw the movie, I did see it remade into the initial five episodes of "She-Ra", and rate it as among Filmation's best work
Someone else would be bound to mention this sooner or later, but those first five She-Ra episodes were done as a five-part story first, only to be re-edited into Secret of the Sword afterwards. In most ways, it works better as five individual parts, as that is how it was structured by the writers (who at the time, didn't know the episodes were going to become a movie).
As for He-Man, well I don't think anyone should ever underestimate the importance of that series on so many fundamental levels. That show almost singlehandedly created the animated syndication market, leading to a plethora of 65+ episode series that still have their fans today (whether or not those shows are on DVD!).
It's just a great pity that the Hallmark company bought virtually the entire Filmation archive and purposefully kept it from Western TV screens for over a decade. Thank goodness BCI are releasing many of these series on DVD, and with a superb collection of show-appropriate extras. Looks like Filmation's tide has at last turned!

Well, I'm not one of those people, I've always felt that much better to have "Rocky and Bullwinkle" episodes over lushly-animated 1930s MGM cartoons that are virtually unwatchable. And I've always felt that Filmation's great sound tracks helped cover over their animation shortcomings, to an extent (it's an absolute mystery to me why they would remake "He-man" for CN without adapting its classic sound track).

Well, Filmation's "Superman" also went back to the original cast of the old "Superman" radio show--it was probably a big factor why I never tired of "Superman" the way I eventually got sick and tired of watching the episodes of Format Films' "Lone Ranger". It was not until CN revived the old Filmation DC cartoons a few years ago for Toonami that the cartoons' glaring deficiencies were visible (and you're right, I believe there were a few Filmation cartoon shorts on "Superman" that drew directly from the comic books--like the episode on the Parasite, and the episode in which Superboy tricked invading aliens into believing that every earthling was as powerful as him!).

Well, not quite singlehandedly, I believe "G.I. Joe" and "Transformers" came along at about the same time, but "He-Man" probably should get most of the credit. I think a case could be made that if the syndicated weekday market had not come along, SatAM would not have markedly improved in the 1980s-90s over what it had been in the 1970s, and the art of kids programming and animation in America would be far less developed than they are today, if not died out altogether. Certainly Fox Kids, Kids WB and Disney Afternoon never would have developed, at least not in the form they did.
Anybody wonder why there is a Hallmark Channel at all? I mean, if they're not going to devote the channel as showcase for reruns of all their SFM specials over the years, and for packaging classic properties like Filmation or the Muppets, what's the point of even doing it?

I haven't even seen most of these shows ever. Out of the ones I've seen I like: "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe," "Star Trek," and "Groovie Goolies."
Can't wait for Trek and Goolies to come on DVD this year!

While I agree that The Hallmark Channel is pretty much worthless, it has to said they no longer own Filmation or Muppet properties.

Which doesn't detract from my basic point. The point is, if the Hallmark Channel was really trying to brand itself as the cable channel that airs only, well, programming that were hallmarks in TV's history, then they would have held on to their Filmation and Muppet properties, or acquired something else of that caliber (and actually put it to use). What they do now, there's nothing really distinctive about it in the least.
