Okay, I know I'm sacrificing my dignity by bringing this up, but it's been on my mind for a while, so I'm gonna start a discussion on it. >_>
I recall back in 1990-1991-ish, I saw this movie in theaters. Let's just say my mom has never been able to forgive my sister for dragging her to that. :p And in subsequent years on VHS, I've come to loathe and enjoy this movie in a very masochistic kind of way.
Was it *really* as bad as some people declare it to be?
In a way, yes and no.
Personally, I felt it to have a good concept, but it was ultimatley wasted on a trite 'sub-plot' involving Judy Jetson. (FWIW, I thought Tiffany did a rather good job voicing Judy) Come to think of it, it pretty much was a Judy-based movie, with the George plot relegated to the 'sub-plot'. =/ And I really can't look at the Grungees without hoping that they mutate into a Gremlin and eat Mr. Spacely alive. :evil: THAT, my friends, would have been a riot.
Aniwho, I do admit the animation was pretty good, even with the early usage of computer animation. (Though 'The Great Mouse Detective', which came out a year or so prior, used it MUCH better IMO) I guess in some instances, it'd be kinda hard to notice that it is H-B animation, given that next to Filmation, they're infamous for reused animation. :sweat:
As for the music, well... I like it and I don't like it. Some songs ('Maybe Love' and 'You and Me') are a couple of my favorites, though I could honestly do without a majority of them. I dunno, I guess it's a matter of 'If you can stand Tiffany's music' kinda thing that makes or breaks the soundtrack. O_o;
Lastly, this movie was techincally the last performance for Mel Blanc. (Though as I have learned over at the TTTP, this may or may not have been his *for sure* last performance) That, and George O'Hanlon, but everyone remembers Mel the most. :p Still, one has to wonder if this was a 'fitting' send off or not for the both of them. I'd have to say for George, it coulda been; but for Mel... he deserved better. :sad:
But to be totally honest... I'd have to say 'Rockin with Judy Jetson' was ultimatley the 'better' of the Jetsons-based movies, but even that is debtable. XD
Ahhh well... your thoughts? Comments?
Just curious. ^_^;
.... Man, now I feel like digging around for this movie, just so I can give it the good ole MST3K treatment with my older sister. XD
