Caught the Sponge after work tonight and was surprised as heck to spot an edit. The sequence where Squidward trips the Krusty Krab's burglar alarms - buckets of gasoline over the doors, just waiting for a match - was clipped out of "Just One Bite." Strangely, the following segment (which used to be the first segment) about a bully who tells SpongeBob he's going to kick SpongeBob's butt was unchanged, even though is much more imitatible behavior. Any ideas what (if anything) was going through the minds of Nick's censors?

Can stuff actually burn underwater like that, even with gasoline?

But what about the real problem still at hand? Kids all over this nation letting their pants fall off?

"SpongeBeb Squarepants. Rated PG-13. In theaters July 10th."

BTW did you know that there really is a SpongeBob Squarepants movie being made?

--substances that can burn/explode underwater, I believe. Plastique explosive comes to mind.

What next--censors afraid kids will take to the kitchen and attempt SpongeBob's rapid-fire mass patty preparation to the music of Tiny Tim in "Help Wanted"? ;)

I saw in a TIME magazine article that there is a movie being made, but only that, they didn't give any information about it.

This is a lot lighter than the first round of edits the show underwent when they, among other things, changed the original title from "SpongeBob no pants".

Argh. If you'll check the rules, you'll find out that we don't allow curse words to be printed, even if one word is "cleverly" replaced by an asterisk since 99.9% of the population can still guess what the word is. We like having a PG rating to keep this board as accessable as possible, and we aim to keep it that way. Got it?

Yup. Curtly put, but to the point. As the mods have said before, please be sure to read the rules page, and of course keep things toned down. All the rules are common sense anyway. :)

Yeah, I saw it too in that one TIME magazine article.

Yeah, the one on top of your head. Don't ever go near Brandon "The Angry Beavers" Pierce with that attitude. There might not be enough left of you to mail home to your mom. It's the network that's the problem, not necessarily the shows. That said, most of their lineup could be put to bed with little complaint from me.

Gasoline floats, so it won't even stay underwater. Patrick did once ask SpongeBob how they could have a campfire when they were underwater, and the campfire went out before he finished his sentence. It came back later, when Patrick stepped on the ashes.

For goodness' sake, it's a cartoon! That's what makes it so funny!

(Plankton's computerized content analyzing machine): Seaweed. 50% sea, 50% weed.

(later, when Plankton falls into the machine): Plankton. 1% evil, 99% hot air.

but its NOT funny! It's immature! It creates the hollow heads i have to go see everyday at school, and makes the money-mad morons down in orlando and in nyc rich, when they dont deserve a penny.

Whatever happened to shows like "You Can't Do that On Television", and "Pinwheel", or even "Eureka's Castle"?? I grew up on these shows and they deserve more recognition than any of nick's current shows do combined.

In case you haven't noticed, every last show nick (not nick at nite) has on now were created for two kinds of people-1, infants, and 2, people with IQ's LESS than two (i.e. is no smarter than a piece of furniture).

You're entitled to your opinion. But don't go around cussing out Spongebob or his fans, otherwise you'll make a lot of enemies. ;)

Why was the episode edited - did it say on a website anywheres. And what an odd cut...it doesn't really make sinse. Then again, most of what Nick has been doing lately doesn't make an ounce of sense...

There have been a few really bad sayings in Spongebob lately, but why they would cut out such a scene is beyond me. I won't go into the details.

I know what you mean, in one episode Spongebob said' "Patrick, your genius is showing" and Patrick yells out "WHERE?" and covers up his bathing suit. In another board people were saying Spongebob was watching something "adult related" on TV when all of a sudden Gary scared him and he quickly changed the channel. I don't really think that though. I can't remember the episode though.
They're even saying diarrhea on Spongebob and Invader Zim, yet they edit that scene. UHHH, NICK

show of hands, how many of you can honestly say you like nick's lineup?
-bring back the old nick!!!-

I'd rather have the old Nick at Nite back - remember the retro '50s style? Now it's Cheers, one of the most overrated sitcoms ever, plus it was made in our lifetimes.

SpongeBob was watching a live action shot of a sea anemone moving. Normally these critters just stand in one spot and filter feed, but once in a while they'll change location by detaching from the seabed and kind of sashaying back and forth. There was some zippy music to go with this, too. SpongeBob had that rapt look some men get when they see porn. Gary surprised him and SpongeBob changed the channel and pretended he was watching sports. I had to explain this joke to my mom.

Bring back the old Nick lineup!

maybe they could make a seperate network for the current shows if you losers truly would die if they were gone.
should we call it "this is what happens to a good network after it stays in its own control too long".

I'm not sure where Time Magazine got their information. According to my Nick informant, the entire Spongebob section is gone. Everyone's gone. The show is done and won't return unless Hillenburg miraculously changes his mind, which he probably won't.

Hey Arnold's section is cleared out too. :(

There's Nick 2 and GAS. GAS shows stuff like "Nick Arcade", "Get the Picture", "Double Dare", etc. Nick 2 just shows what's on Nick, only a couple hours later. :)

BTW, if I'm ever Prez of the US, I'm putting Steve Hillenburg in prison... ;)

I've already raved about on the subject of Nick's quality elsewhere on these boards, so I'll behave here.
BTW, there is a sort of third Nick net. Noggin is a coproduction betwixt Nick and Children's Television Workshop. It shows some of the more educational Nick shows (Eureeka's Castle, etc) as well as the old CTW shows, like the Electric Company. Hard to imagine Morgan Freeman in those Easy Reader bell-bottoms now... :)

Oh, all right, I'll say it.

Spongebob made an excuse to Sandy for going away when he said he had to comb his hair. Sandy said, "Spongebob doesn't have hair. *gasp* Or does he?

This is going to sound like an "in my day" rant of sorts, so I appologize, but I'll begin it with 3 words. Rocko's Modern Life

I'm not a fan of Spongebob, maybe because I've never seen it, but if you wanted hilarious and unique comedy on a cartoon that all audiences could enjoy, you'd go to Rocko's house.

My point, finally, is that when you guys were talking about parts in Spongebob that were "questionable" I was reminded that occasionally happening in Rocko. In the first few seconds of one scene, for example, the boys were playing a game with paddles and there's a monkey that was recently spinning around with some clear "wear and tear" on the monkey's rear end.

Now that's something I caught, of course, but that's the only genre of people it was meant to be caught by. Anyone else just thought nothing of it. Whatever happened to those days?? And for those who were exposed to both Rocko and Spongebob, are they similar at all, in the way I described?

Evil Dr. Reef

No kidding. Rocko is lots better than Spongebob IMO.

I'd say SB and Rocko are even. I have seen a scene that was edited out of an episode. It was in the episode when Rocko and Heffer were going across the country. They got to this one hotel and there was some funny dialog in it. All of the rooms were full and well you have to see it. I don't remember the website though.

They take out that out, but they don't even go near the line in the episode where Sponge and Pat steal the baloon.

Patrick: This isn't some silly crime like hijacking, we stole a baloon!

I thought for sure some soccer mom would get mad over that.

More bad news: The scene is also edited on the "Tales From the Deep" DVD. I just put it in to check and saw it was taken out.

Betaman - I don't see what makes spongebob so popular, but I do see what makes it funny. It's SUPPOSED to be immature and stupid and goofy, but it's not immature in a gross, dirty unsophisticated way (though I like some immature shows too)

The scene where Heff is milked by "the milking machine" was edited from the episode where Rocko and Heff go to the ranch, among other edited scenes.

1) I was addressing a guy (now banned) who blanket-bashed Nick programming. It was a suggestion that this was a bad attitude to have, and one that most posters, particularly you as an Angry Beavers fan, would disapprove of. Apparently, this warning went unheeded.

2) Dr. Belch is also banned? Who did that?! I liked him.

3) This thread is now over a year old. I've seen "Just One Bite" in the past month or so, and Nick is showing uncut. I don't think I've seen the edit but once.

4) Nightwing, please pick a different font color. My eyes are bleeding.
