I've experienced both The Fab 4's animated series and 1968 film Yellow Submarine. Gear, fab.

Here (http://web.archive.org/web/20011107183747/http://www.beatletoons.com/) is a cached copy of the Beatletoons site from Internet Archives (what with it no longer existing  ).

I do vaguely remember the cartoon series. It wasn't a favorite of mine as I recall.

Great music, though.

Yellow Submarine was a very influential film in the history of animation. Blue Meanies!

The Beatles cartoons were produced by the folks at King Features for three seasons, the final one being 1967-68 (where they kept the fab four looking like 1964, with pictures of the real-life 1967 Beatles in the opening sequence). Lennon was none too fond of the voices nor did he care much for the look of the characters. There was some fine voice talent at work though, including the great Paul Frees. My only complaint was when some of the music was edited (though for the "singalong" segment it was understandable...they wanted to display the lyrics onscreen). I managed to get them all on tape (minus the opening and closing sequences) when MTV aired them in 1987, a year after they brought the Monkees back into the public eye for their 20th Anniversary Tour (the Beatles cartoons later aired on the Disney Channel, again without the opening or closing sequences). They sure did look different in Yellow Submarine!

I was but a toddler when The Beatles first aired in animated form. I've seen some of the reruns when they ran on MTV 20 years ago. It ran for 3 seasons just on the strength of Beatlemania alone, pilgrims, because the plots weren't the greatest.

I've only seen bits of Yellow Submarine. Not sure if King Features or another studio did that one, but at least the band's look was updated.

Paul Frees was everywhere, it seems, in the 60's. Getting gigs with King, H-B, DePatie-Freleng, Jay Ward (natch), Kayro (Calvin & the Colonel). I think his association with Rankin/Bass started around this time, too. After Mel Blanc, apparently, Frees was DA MAN for voice work in the 60's.
