"We believe the definition of a 'classic' cartoon isn't just a matter of age, but more importantly a question of quality and lasting entertainment value," Marc Buhaj, CN and Boomerang vp of programming and scheduling, commented.

This doesn't explain why Boomerang runs Duck Dodgers, Baby Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry Kids.

Boomerang needs to make sure that it keeps a good pace of rotating out the H-B series - maybe 2 or 3 runs of their 17 episodes before they're flipped otu with a different series. Also they need to stop giving a show 3 time slots in a day. Don't turn this in CN with their carpet bombing program structure.

Yes it does. The folks at CN thinks these cartoons have a "lasting entertainment value".

Yes, you may not think these cartoons have these, but the guy does.

Although I think classic should be restricted to something produced before 1980s.

The sad part is that the only people who have a clue what to do with CN and have respect for cartoons are the messed up goofballs that do AdultSwim - they're the ones that brought back Popeye, Bob Clampett and Gigantor. They should put them in charge of Boomerang.

Dexter, PPG and Johhny Bravo had a lot of nice ideas, especially the spoofs of pop-culture. (Beat-Alls, the Twilight Zone and Schoolhuse Rock themed episodes of JB, etc). It was just like the golden age of Looney Tunes all over again. And that's what Turner originally envisioned his "World Premiere Toons" as.

But since now CN is dedicated to even newer stuff, with anime and some kiddie stuff seeming to dominate (I just looked thtought he schedule on the cable box a bit to get an idea of what CN shows. Tonight, the movie "Snow Day" is playing, and that's not even animated! What's that doing on there? )
...then Dexter and at least the other two should move to Boomerang. They certainly are de-facto "retro" now, believe it or not (Gee, getting old!)

I still wish they would get Tiny Toons and Animaniacs. And they could give the non-Amblin shows like Taz-Mania a run too. And they would really benefit from buying out Entertainment Rights.

snow day? I'm putting down $2 to declare that soon the channel will be rebranded as "The Children's Network" so it can explain breaking with its mission.

I Thking they should make their own channel for Cartoon Cartoons and other programming that is lost such as duck dodgers or baby looney tunes. Keep Boomerang for accually classics!

Boomerang is about running stuff that is owned or under long term contracts with TW/Turner. The channel isn't really about classic cartoons more so it is about programming that they aren't paying fortune to run.

Now we're seeing that Boomerang is becoming a dumping ground for shows that just aren't cutting it on Cartoon Network, but have enough of a following that they might bring a few stray eyeballs onto the channel. Now they have 154 Dexter's Labs to run which at 10 minutes a pop - means they'll have about a two month cycle - unless they just run 2 per 30 minute slot. what would be nice is if they go 2 per slot, they pick out bonus shorts that have mad scientist themes. Bring the world of animation together.

Although judging from Buhjur's comment, I have severe doubts about the masterminds at work. It's like he's just killing time till he moves up the food chain.

Does not have to happen. Because when it comes to ratings, Adult Swim is considered a different cable channel.

Nothing says quality and lasting entertainment value like Baby Looney Tunes :p.

The opinion of quality and lasting entertainment value among the library from the crew at CN/Turner is rather hilarious. It seems stuff like Tex Avery's MGM work has no lasting entertainment value while crap like A Pup Named Scooby-Doo does.
