Who needs the marathons if you have the definitive edition dvds.

It's a shame that Sci-Fi doesn't show classic science fiction shows anymore (i.e. Lost In Space, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Land of the Giants, Time Tunnel, Green Hornet)

Twilight Zone. Seen it a million times, and yet still timeless and scarry. Kind of like loging in onto Toon Zone. :p

I love how Scifi keeps misadvertising their "uncut" episodes.

Until I find half-a-thousand bucks lying on the street or I win the lottery, the marathons are all I have. It actually makes it more enjoyable; something I look forward to. They're actually plugging the Definitive DVDs with extras snippets throughout the marathon. I'm annoyed that there are no uncut episodes this year.
Definitely one of the best shows of all time. Can't get enough of it! The good eps, anyway...I just saw one of the hour-long ones with a young Dennis Hopper as an American neo-nazi who's getting advice on how to manipulate people by the spirit of Adolf Hitler. Interesting stuff, I'm surprised I never heard of it before.
This damn commercial for yet ANOTHER sci-fi original movie about giant creatures stalking people, this one about big bugs, is played EVERY SINGLE COMMERCIAL BREAK!!!! I want to shoot the TV every time it comes on!
"What's worse than being stuck in a cave with enormous bugs?....Nothing! Caved in! This Saturday! Watch it! We're desperate ever since we took off everything decent!" It's sad how every channel loses its mission, isn't it? First AMC, then TV Land, no Sci-Fi is nothing but cheap TV creature features 24/7. The TZ marathons are all that's left.

I'm annoyed that there are no uncut episodes this year.Well technically they never have run any "uncut" episodes. The full length negatives on TZDE confirm this.

I didn't know that; they must have cut a lot out because there was footage from "The Masks" (one of my personal favorites) I had never seen until they aired it, allegedly uncut, last year.

Speaking of the masks, I didn't feel like watching Regis or Dick Clark, so I kept watching TZ tonight. The last ep was the Masks. They've been having the episodes slightly off-center in time frame; i.e. not exactly one half hour per episode, for the last few hours. For example, one ep might start 10:02 and end 10:35. I suppose this was just for extra commercials but it allowed them to do something kind of cool with The Masks. When the clock strikes twelve in that episode, the crucial moment of the whole piece, it was EXACTLY when it turned midnight in real life for the new year. Pretty cool, huh?

I watched bits and pieces of the marathon but watched all of The Masks. That's one of my favorite episodes. I love the ending. My favorite scene was when he handed out the masks. My only complaint about the episode is that the character that said that he made the football team didn't look like he was even in college.

Since it's one of the few scifi-esqe traditions that SCIFI has hung onto...yeah, I watch.

Love it. However, just like last year, and throughout all of 2005, I still haven't seen the one with the dancing clown!

My favorite episodes are definitely "The Obsolete Man" and the William Shatner/Gremlin one (forgot the name... ). I love it when Sci-Fi does these marathons.

Guess I'm just not meant to see it. I'll have to be sure and watch the 1 am ones every single night till I catch it.

P.S. Talk about freaky. Just after I posted this, they played last year's promo, which of course includes the dancing clown.

Twilight Zone rules, I watch it every New Year. I'm glad I caught some of the Willoughby episode, one of my favorites.

I remember my creepy (but fun) uncle used to watch TZ with me when I was maybe five or six and we saw the Willoughby episode, and whenever I stayed over at his house, he'd walk past my door at night ringing a bell and saying "Willoughby! Next stop is Willoughby!"
Yes, he was a strange man.

I had never seen "Night of the Meek" till last night, that's a really sweet one. One of the best Christmas specials I've seen.

I'd also never seen "The Old Man in the Cave." Can someone who's seen it please explain the computer at the end? What, is it just a big ol' calculator or does it analyze what's in food to see if it's contaminated or what? I'm just confused by it, after I waited the whole episode to see what it was.

The old man IIRC (haven't seen this one in 8 years) keeps the town alive by analyzing. There a scene at the beginning where the John Anderson character is bringing the food back from the cave saying the old man says it's contaminated.

Thanks; that's kind of what I assumed, but I wasn't sure because it wasn't very clear.

Also, this brings up the question, why doesn't he just say that it's a machine? What's the point of lying about it? Why was it such a secret? Maybe it's a plot hole, maybe I'm just stupid.

Perhaps it's a metaphor for how much society depends upon, puts faith in, and personifies technology.

Silly McGooses
01-04-2006, 09:15 PM
That could be, but it seems like the computer is the only voice of reason in the episode.
