Hey TZers! A family friend gave me a phone card for a Christmas gift and I wanna use it to call my friend in Canada. Unfortunately, my friend doesn't know the country code or area code (she moved there). I need that info to call her. I know she could ask someone but she's asking me to find out myself. Does anyone know the country code for Canada and the area codes for Toronto and Scarborough in Ontario?

Don't know the country code for people outside of Canada. Tim? Anyone here know? I believe your local operator can give you that information.

As for the area code, it's 416...I believe Scarborough has the same area code but I'm not too sure. If not, try 905.

There's no country code necessary to call USA->Canada.

On this topic, someone described to me that it's feasible to call...

C4N4D4. Essentially, Canada in 1337. While the number isn't in service, it's an acceptable with codes and and all. Like, theoretically, 555-555-5555 would work for USA, but the number isn't allowed due to no 555 area code.

Google is your friend:

The country code for Canada is 1. Your phone number would be 1-XXX-XXX-XXXX. The area code for Toronto is usually 416, although it may be 905. You can try searching Canada411 (http://www.canada411.com) to find out your friend's phone number, if you aren't sure about the area code.

Yep, everyone is correct.

For Americans calling Canada, you needn't do any more than add a "1" to the beginning of the area code. It's identical to calling someone outside of your own American area codes: Canada and the States have identical systems in which the telephones are set up.

Simple, non?

Well I'm not in the USA. I'm in the Philippines. But according to the first link Dr. Octopus gave, the country code is indeed 1. I think the phone card can handle it from here. It just needs 00 + country code + area code + phone number. If that doesn't work let you guys know. Thanks guys. I knew I can count on Toonzone!

Hmmm...I think it may be "011", but I don't know for sure.
