Picked this up at Wal-Mart early this morning, and I'm a few episodes into it now.

The good news: The menus are getting better. The first part of the opening is featured before going into the menu, and the turtle's battle music segways from the main menu to the episode selection. The episode selection is the same as V2's release, with stills of the various episodes with the turtles surrounding them.

The bad news: The DVD has previews for other titles before you can reach the main menu, but luckily they're skippable. And there no bonus features, like the first two releases.

These are the first twelve episodes of Season 3, six of which I haven't seen since their original syndicated airing. Like the first two releases, the video isn't hurt by cramming 12 episodes onto a disc, but the video hasn't been cleaned up either, but at 10 bucks, one can't complain.

For old school turtle fans, you should be pleased. I just wish Lion's Gate would release the rest of the series fast, with 163 episodes left.

That's because not every episode was released on Video for all those years.

the menu's are slowly getting better hopefully this trend continues and we have great menus by season 4. the semi animated videos are nice, and while i like the mix of old with new toon designs, and the bright covers hopefully they'll be gone after 2-4 more volumes... they have a lot of material to work with.

as this volume the first 12 episodes of season 3 are actually petty strong, some great episodes like aprils fools, rat king etc, there is still some violence in them and even some slight innuendo ;o

Hopefully we get more 'volume' releases, and finish season 3 by next year, though getting two volumes instead of just one this year was nice, hopefully we see more than two next year though...

at less than ten bucks you owe it to yourself to pick it up.

Am I the only surpised by them not re-using the various VHS covers for the DVDs?

I don't see why they would use the old VHS covers, it would be nice to see a few of them though, not all of them. It's mostly obvious they are trying to get fans of the new show to get these releases since the art from vol. 2 and 3 are just new toon designs drawn in the "old" toon way. but then they put the bright colors on the background that is similar to the old VHS tapes ;/

And there no bonus features, like the first two releases. There were no bonus features on Volume Two like we had bonus 'Red Sky' episodes on Volume One.

I LOVE the menus but boy the episodes look slightly worse than vol 2 and I find that discouraging. The sound quality is still fine though. It improved what vol 2 did bad but has it's own problems like the onslaught of unrelated trailers at the begining and the slightly lower video quality. But overall the package feels like they put a bit more effort into it and that bodes well for the future.

The menus are slightly better. As for the episodes, the best ones were probably "The Maltese Hamster", "The Old Switcheroo", and "Burne's Blues".

Also, I laughed at the scene in one of the first episodes on the disc, where April and Splinter are searching for the enemy and Splinter remarks about how they are nearby. April asks how can he tell, and he replies that he picked up the scent of doctors. Then he quickly adds, "Also, there's an ambulance double-parked on the street." :D

BTW, quick question: What studio does the overseas animation for the episodes on this set? Nobody is listed in the credits (except for the robot episode), which is quite odd. Is it A-1 again, like it was for Volume 2?

This volume was very good as the previous two volumes. Aleast someone else beside myself enjoy that Splinter comment in the first episode of the dvd, Bebop and Rocksteady have some great one liners on this one as well.

Speaking of "April's Fool", that episode had a distinctly different animation/designs style than all the other episodes on the set. The facial expressions were bigger, the turtles' eyes were wider and more cartoony, and the outlines were slightly thicker. Unfortunately, the animation itself was frequently very choppy. But it was different, at any rate. I had a suspicion that Wang animated it, but once again, no studio listed in the credits.

They can't release these fast enough. We're at least three volumes away from my favorite S3 episode 'Mr. Ogg Goes To Town'. Haven't seen that one since the show was in syndication.

Well I know two of my favorite episodes are going to be one of the next two volumes which are Cowabunga Sherrhead, and Super Bebop and Mighty Rocksteady.
