This is a sequel thread to the one I started in late April. Basically, the question is: What DVDs are you sick of having take up space on your shelf and are planning on selling/trading in soon? Only reason I'm asking again is because it's Christmas season, which means not only selling stuff to make money for buying presents but taking unwanted gifts back. So let's get the ball rolling!
During the Christmas break, I plan on selling at least some of these DVDs:
-Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within: I'll have to watch again to make sure, but I have a feeling that if I strip away all the hype about being such a landmark in CG visuals, I'll be disappointed with the plot and characters.
-Fourth Wise Man: An obscure film I got as a present. It smacks of low budget made-for-TV quality, including the acting. Kinda fun to see a cameo by Charlie Sheen, but really not a very good film. Sorry, dad.
-Hot Shots Part Deux: Like FF: TSW, I'll have to rewatch this again to make sure, but I do remember it being significantly less funny than the original, mostly because of more emphasis on goofy gags/uncreative parodies and less on clever wordplay.
-Lara Croft Tomb Raider: I'm on the fence with this one. I loved this film back when it first came out, but now I'm not so sure. The sequel is better, to be sure, and despite Jolie filling the role of Lara nicely, the rest of the movie didn't feel like Tomb Raider at all, aside from the rock monsters.
-Lord of the Rings: Here it is: The epitome of lumpy animation. Thank you, rotoscoping! Ages ago, I bought it to directly compare it to the live action Peter Jackson movies. But now that I've seen it, I'm not sure I need the inferior version. Plus it's 130+ minutes long. And just watching ten minutes of it is a test of endurance, thanks to the painful pacing and slow cutting.
-Mortal Kombat Annihilation: Ummm... WHY do I still have this DVD, despite saying numerous times in the past that I should chuck it?
-Murphy's War: A World War 2 film starring a usually reliable actor, Peter O'Toole. I dunno, there's just little momentum to this film, and I didn't get into the characters or the plot much at all. Once again, sorry dad.
-Pearl Harbor: It really isn't a very good movie. Dull romance and cliched lines aplenty. Only redeeming grace is the attack scene, but I don't think it's worth keeping just for that.
-Planet of the Apes (2001): I don't hate this as much as some people; I actually felt there were a lot of aspects which were more like the novel than the 1968 film. But I haven't felt the urge to watch this in a REALLY long time. And Heston's version is miles better anyway.
-Sorcerer Hunters Vol. 3: Never got into this anime. Of course it doesn't help that I came in 2/3 through the series, but I still found it very average. Except for the very emotional four-part finale.
