This is a sequel thread to the one I started in late April. Basically, the question is: What DVDs are you sick of having take up space on your shelf and are planning on selling/trading in soon? Only reason I'm asking again is because it's Christmas season, which means not only selling stuff to make money for buying presents but taking unwanted gifts back. So let's get the ball rolling!

During the Christmas break, I plan on selling at least some of these DVDs:
-Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within: I'll have to watch again to make sure, but I have a feeling that if I strip away all the hype about being such a landmark in CG visuals, I'll be disappointed with the plot and characters.
-Fourth Wise Man: An obscure film I got as a present. It smacks of low budget made-for-TV quality, including the acting. Kinda fun to see a cameo by Charlie Sheen, but really not a very good film. Sorry, dad.
-Hot Shots Part Deux: Like FF: TSW, I'll have to rewatch this again to make sure, but I do remember it being significantly less funny than the original, mostly because of more emphasis on goofy gags/uncreative parodies and less on clever wordplay.
-Lara Croft Tomb Raider: I'm on the fence with this one. I loved this film back when it first came out, but now I'm not so sure. The sequel is better, to be sure, and despite Jolie filling the role of Lara nicely, the rest of the movie didn't feel like Tomb Raider at all, aside from the rock monsters.
-Lord of the Rings: Here it is: The epitome of lumpy animation. Thank you, rotoscoping! Ages ago, I bought it to directly compare it to the live action Peter Jackson movies. But now that I've seen it, I'm not sure I need the inferior version. Plus it's 130+ minutes long. And just watching ten minutes of it is a test of endurance, thanks to the painful pacing and slow cutting.
-Mortal Kombat Annihilation: Ummm... WHY do I still have this DVD, despite saying numerous times in the past that I should chuck it?
-Murphy's War: A World War 2 film starring a usually reliable actor, Peter O'Toole. I dunno, there's just little momentum to this film, and I didn't get into the characters or the plot much at all. Once again, sorry dad.
-Pearl Harbor: It really isn't a very good movie. Dull romance and cliched lines aplenty. Only redeeming grace is the attack scene, but I don't think it's worth keeping just for that.
-Planet of the Apes (2001): I don't hate this as much as some people; I actually felt there were a lot of aspects which were more like the novel than the 1968 film. But I haven't felt the urge to watch this in a REALLY long time. And Heston's version is miles better anyway.
-Sorcerer Hunters Vol. 3: Never got into this anime. Of course it doesn't help that I came in 2/3 through the series, but I still found it very average. Except for the very emotional four-part finale.

I just recently unloaded my original releases of both Saw and Sin City, because I've got the new uncut editions. Also traded in in Samurai Champloo volume 1 because, being the dummy I am, I went ahead and bought the one with the box. UFC 43 also had to go because I'm either recieving the UFC Ultimate Box Set for Christmas or picking it up myself. Everything else is a keeper.

Recently traded in:

-Mummy Returns: Pretty good popcorn flick, just not good enough I suppose :p

-Jurassic Park III: Planning on getting the 3-pak somewhere down the line.

-Terminator 3: Pretty ho-hum except for the ending. I do regret losing the sgt. candy deleted sequence thou.

-Justice League: the bare bones disc of the secret origins 3 parter. i actually got rid of these even before i knew the box set was coming out.

-Saving Private Ryan: most people wouldn't get rid of a movie like this, but honestly its only gotten three or four plays in my dvd player since i bought it in 2001. as much as i want to collect "good" movies, you have to draw a line with what gets watched and whats just there taking up space.

you should get the JP pack right now since it does include a free King Kong ticket ;D

I want to get rid of my Teen Titans V.1 since the season set is coming out soon, and i'll get more money now when more people don't know about it ;D

i'm thinking of maybe trading my Spaceballs dvd for the new version, how is the new version anyway? the old release was already good...i specially liked the menus.

I'm also eventually going to get rid of my The Batman Legacy box set to pick up the new Anthology box set.

i'm definately keeping my Donnie Darko dvd after hearing some bad stuff about the directors cut though.

Christmas edition? You could be offending people! You should have called it "Holiday Special".

If a mod wants to change the thread title, that's fine by me. I more said Christmas out of force of habit. No offense was meant to any non-Christians.

I just went over my DVD collection, and I was shocked to find nothing that I'd want to get rid of. I do have a couple of Buffy season sets I'd like to unload, but they were gifts from a person who comes to visit me often, so I'm sorta stuck with 'em.

I'd get rid of Spy Kids, but Tony Shalhoub is the saving grace.

There are tons of places to unload unwanted DVDs. I think most, if not all, EB Games and Gamestop stores will take them back. Many lesser chain stores as well as local places will also buy them. And of course, they're always eBay.

What kinda price will they go for?

-Terminatah There's the problem with this. Most stores will give you about 1/3 of what you probably paid for them, if you're lucky. When I got rid of Sin City, I got $8 in store credit, and would have only gotten $6 had I wanted cash. For Saw I only got a dollar. The store where I work buys back DVDs and the most I've ever seen for a single movie is $12. But, it's better than nothing when they're just sitting on your shelf taking up room. Especially if their duplicates or inferior versions, as was my case.

Where are you people selling these? I usually go to Pre-Played, a used DVD/game store. Pretty sure it's not a national chain, though.

Yesterday I sold nearly everything on the list:
-Fourth Wise Man
-Lara Croft Tomb Raider
-Lord of the Rings (1978)
-Mortal Kombat Annihilation
-Murphy's War
-Pearl Harbor
-Planet of the Apes (2001)
-Sorcerer Hunters Essential Anime Collection Vol. 3

Plus Fullmetal Alchemist Vol. 1.

After re-watching Hot Shots Part Deux and Final Fantasy: TSW, I decided to keep both of them. Turns out they were just as good as I remember (Part Deux in particular; I laughed quite a bit in the first 15 minutes alone!).
