Animated Titles
This week's biggest animated release is the seventh season of The Simpsons, and there's also the direct-to-view Disney sequel Kronk's New Groove and Scooby Doo: Where's My Mummy?
Theatrical Releases
Not a bad week for movies just coming out of theaters: The 40 Year Old Virgin, the remake of The Bad News Bears, The Island, and Roll Bounce. Most of those are being released in separate full-frame and widescreen editions, so be sure to pick up the right one.
Coming out of limited releases are The Baxter, The Beautiful Country, Pretty Persuasion, Saint Ralph, Three Dancing Slaves, and Valiant. There's also...drum roll...Godzilla: Final Wars.
Re-Releases
The studios are cranking out the re-releases in time for Christmas -- Airplane: Don't Call Me Shirley Edition, Big Bad Mama, Death Race 2000, Gallipoli, The Producers, Rock 'n Roll High School, the recut/extended/unrated Sin City, and a director's cut of The Yards.
TV-on-DVD
The Dukes of Hazzard: Season 5 Family Bonds: Season 1 Farscape: Starburst 3.1 Gilmore Girls: Season 5 Miami Vice: Season 2 The Newsroom: Season 1 Reba: Season 2 Tour of Duty: The Entire Series
Miscellaneous T
Some of this week's catalog titles include Crooked Hearts, Everybody Wins, and F.I.S.T. A bunch of DVDs from Roger Corman's Concorde-New Horizons are coming out on DVD this week, and although most of 'em are re-releases, DinoCroc is coming out on DVD for the first time.
More notable than any of those are the massive King Kong: Peter Jackson's Production Diaries and a Ray Harryhausen gift set with 20 Million Miles to Earth, It Came from Beneath the Sea, Earth vs. the Flying Saucers, and a book.
In Closing...
For a list of some of the best prices as well as the latest price drops for existing titles, check Mike Frezon's weekly thread on the Home Theater Forum (http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htforum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=247226) and SalesCircular.com (http://www.salescircular.com/). A relatively comprehensive list of this week's releases can be found at DVD Talk (http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/bargain.php) and ComingSoon.net (http://www.comingsoon.net/dvd/).
So -- what are you getting this week? I'm sure I'll be grabbing the revised Sin City at some point this week. There's a lot more I ought to grab, but I still have way, way, way too much unwatched stuff.
