Plot Summary: Robert Rodriguez ("Spy Kids," "Once Upon a Time in Mexico") and comic book icon Frank Miller co-direct "Sin City," based on the series of graphic novels created, written, and illustrated by Miller. "Sin City" is infested with criminals, crooked cops and sexy dames, some searching for vengeance, some for redemption and others, both. The film incorporates storylines from three of Miller's graphic novels including 'Sin City,' which launched the long-running, critically acclaimed series, as well as 'That Yellow Bastard' and 'The Big Fat Kill.'

Rodriguez, along with Miller, translated these legendary stories from page to screen by remaining absolutely faithful to the look, feel and dialogue of the books.

"Sin City" stars Bruce Willis as Hartigan, a cop with a bum ticker and a vow to protect stripper Nancy (Jessica Alba); Mickey Rourke as Marv, the outcast misanthrope on a mission to avenge the death of his one true love, Goldie (Jaime King), and Clive Owen as Dwight, the clandestine love of Shelley (Brittany Murphy), who spends his nights defending Gail (Rosario Dawson) and her Old Towne girls (Devon Aoki and Alexis Bledel) from Jackie Boy (Benicio Del Toro), a dirty cop with a penchant for violence.

Supposedly the "twenty minutes" are overblown -- the majority of that time is devoted to credits.

I'll still be picking up this DVD set at some point this week, though.

I can't wait to get this, even if the new footage is supposedly a waste of time. I can't wait to see what went into making the film itself. If they've not filled it with promotional "Everyone should see this film" fluff, it could be one of the best DVDs ever.

Yeah up to nine minutes is actual footage.

Considering there wasn't much cut out of the comic books though this is not a surprise.

So what was put back in to validate it's "unrated"ness?

Is this another Batman Begins scenario where the bonus graphic novel will disappear after the initial prints run out? If thats the case, it might spur me to buy this a little faster.

If thats the case, it might spur me to buy this a little faster. That's because there was a rights issue with the book that was discovered after the first set was out. I don't know the specifics, but it was pulled from future runs because of the rights issues.

I'm still annoyed that there isn't a version which doesn't include the graphic novel. Most of us who are big enough fans to buy the SE are probably big enough fans to have bought the graphic novel either years ago, or when the movie was in theaters.

Ah crap, I need to get my eyes checked. I didn't see this and made a topic on it just now. Sorry.

So far I only watched the stuff on Disc 2. I think I prefer the movies being by themselves more except for The Customer is Always Right, as they just didn't seem the same without being part of the movie. Also, how come that story isn't listed in the Sin City graphic novel list? Robert says it takes place after The Hard Goodbye, but before The Big Fat Kill, however, I don't see how. Can anyone give me info on that?

Anyway, so far, I watched the 15 minute Prep school documentary, the 14 full shot of a Tarentino scene, and parts of the Green screen version. All were very interesting, but the Tarentino one was a little bit on the boring side. I also didn't care for the concert video from Bruce Willis.

I'll watch Disc 1's extra soon, but I definitely give this set a 4.8/5 stars. Oh, the only reason I took off .2 is because other than the scene with Marv's mother, I didn't notice 20 minutes of extra footage.

It's not a graphic novel, it's a short story. You can find it in "Babes, Broads, and Bullets".

With this version, can you watch the film segmented or interspersed?

What is that?

Samhaine, the theatrical version is on Disc 1, but the extra scenes are only on the individual stories on Disc 2.

Thanks, I'll take a look for it this weekend when I'm at the comic shop.

Another strike against Alliance Atlantis. Not only do they have a forced french text screen before each story on the second disc, they neglected to include the insert found in the American edition. They did include the graphic novel and did a fine job on the packaging, but they just keep dropping the ball. I can't wait for Alliance Atlantis' contract to be up so someone else, preferably Maple Pictures, can take it over and give us complete DVD sets.

Wait! The set was supposed to come with an insert? To the Americans who picked up this set what was on the insert? I knew Alliance Atlantis (who released the DVD set in Canada) would screw us over somehow. Ihate when they do stuff like this. But that aside the set is a bit cool even if the deleted scenes and commentaries are a bit of a let down.

I can't say for sure what the insert has (brother is currently borrowing it), but yeah there's an insert or two in addition to the comic. One's an ad if I remember right and the other relates to the DVD/movie.

I haven't picked up the DVD yet, but I saw the insert -- it's nothing special. I think it's a chapter listing and a couple of ads.
