View Full Version : They don't want you to know how much Marge costs....

It's the holiday season, so the Sunday newspaper is stuffed with store ads. Most of them show Simpsons Season 7 set for release next Tuesday, but just say "Low Price!" instead of telling us how much they're gonna charge. They only did this for the Simpsons set.....everything else that comes out Tuesday has its price listed!
Only Best Buy came clean and said "29.99" (there, was it that hard?)
I don't get what's going on. So much for comparison shopping.

I'd imagine Target will have it for $29.99 as well.

I usually go to Best Buy out of habit anyway. I guess saving a buck or two isn't worth driving all over town to me.

I don't get what's going on. So much for comparison shopping. That's becoming more and more standard it seems. I had the same problem with Revenge of the Sith and countless other titles. Apparently DVDs are something they want to get you to come in and just buy. I find myself making a few phone calls early in the week to figure it out. (And then, unless there's an unrated cut, Wal-Mart usually wins because the one around here is a vicious price-matcher).

Always go to Walmart first if you can.
Heck, I picked up Sith there last week for 14.99

Go to Best Buy! Thousands of Possibilities - Get Yours!Umm, I think the idea is lowest price, not best marketing campaign.

I know. But it seems that they have the best price. And Circuit City is good too. Because it has Just What I Needed. LOL

Best Buy, Circuit City, and Target are all carrying the set for $29.99, for what it's worth. Beats any price online, too.

I'm going to Target because they have Sin City for $26.99 whereas Best Buy wants $29.99 for it.
i have been noticing that in the ads now, it is actually pretty frustrating ;/
i mean you can still find the prices just not as convenient

Most major DVD releases carry an MAP, or Minimum Advertised Price. A store can sell whatever they want for however much they want, but they're under agreement with the distributors not to advertise their price if it's below a certain point. That's probably what's happening here.

It looks like both the "Marge head" packaging and the standard box will be available, does anyone know the details on this? Will the box the same as the season 6 box that you sent off for that just slid the dvds into, or will it be the same as seasons 1-5? Will you be able to send off to get a box? Will there be 3 versions now?

Will there be 3 versions now? From what I could gather (and I don't know this 100%, since I couldn't open the box in the store, obviously), the "traditional" packaging for Season 7 is identical to Seasons 1-5. Well, except without the couch gag on the cover.
And back on topic, I got Simpsons Season 7 for $29.99 at Best Buy, and both the Marge head AND the traditional packaging are the same price.

The traditional packaging is a bit of a combination between the old boxes and the replacement box from last season. The dvd book slides out of the side again instead of the top and folds out in a way that's similar to the old style. However, the trays that hold the dvds are basically the same as in the Homer head package.
Did that make sense at all?....
You know, if FOX really wanted to cash in they should have included a slip in the Marge head package that allowed you to order a replacement box again. I'm sure there'd be plenty of self-proclaimed completists who would get the plastic head and then order the other box as well if given the option. Heck, as sick as it is...there's probably people who bought both versions in the stores just for the sake of completion.

Thanks for the info, mookie75. And for the record, I got the Marge head. ;)

I bought the boxed version because the heads are cheaply made without a care in the world. If they were actually metal cases or something, and painted properly (I have not seen one Homer head that has been painted on right), I would have gotten the Marge head.

I just flat out like the non-head packaging better. It has more color, looks classier, and feels like something I'd rather spend $30 on instead of a cheap-looking block of plastic blue hair.

Umm, I think the idea is lowest price, not best marketing campaign. Then it would be: Wal-Mart "Always Low Prices, Always"
It has more color, looks classier ....i really dont see how a head has class. But it does have color and fits with the first five without looking out of place.

Fuuny thing. I went to my wal-mart today, and while all the other simpsons sets had price stickers, the season 7 boxes (they had no marge heads) just had a big NR sticker on them. There wasnt even a price tag stuck to the display indicating how much the new set was. I didnt really ask because i dont have the funds to purchase it now anyway, but i just found that amusing considering this thread.

Well what was the point of releasing two different covers when we didn't get that option for S6? Was it too many letters from angry fans or just confusing those to rush out and buy both versions during the holidays?
Hades

It was probably too expensive for them to do another offer like they did with S6. Either that, or they had so many people getting the replacement cover that they decided to do both this time.
