If you're a regular DVD Aficionado user like me, I'm sure you're aware that a new version of the site will be up very soon. 2.0 has been in development for about a year now, and new features include a more extensive and smarter price finder, the ability to sort DVDs by studio and genre/subgenre, a mini-menu that follows your mouse so you don't have to be at the top of the page to perform tasks, a more extensive search function, and high res pics for donators/star members.
For an example, here's a sample from my collection: http://speedy-boris.dvdaf.net/owned/American-Animation
Or this guy's: http://awesker.dvdaf.net/owned/Action-Adventure
I'm very excited about this upgrade and I'd be interested in hearing what you guys have to say, seeing as how many of you here use dvdaf for cataloging DVDs. :)
BTW, feedback/bug reports are at http://film-talk.com/forums
So, does this mean we have to re-do our collections?

Shouldn't have to; Ed (the DVDAF head honcho) is working on transferring all the data from the old server to the new server.
Ah, good. Custom folders and custom sorts will be transferred too, right?

Yup. As evidenced by my collection.
Yay! It would be far too annoying for me to completely redo all my custom stuff on my list (since mine's more specialized than most people's).
EDIT: Though I will say that green text and the moving menu button are really annoying. And without the folders up at the top, it's a bit hard for me to navigate since I have so many folders.

So how did you get in on this Boris? Did you volunteer to test it? Do we have to sign up again?

Anyone can volunteer to test the new dvdaf and report bugs. You only have to be a member of Film Talk forums to provide feedback. And no, you shouldn't have to re-register. Only in extremely rare cases should certain users have to do so, but I haven't seen any instances of that yet.
Let me ask you this, Penguin: What's your dvdaf user name? Because I can give you the link to your 2.0 collection (if you haven't already figured it out, that is).
P.S.: Eventually this temporary dvdaf.net address will be merged to the usual dvdaf.com. So you won't have to memorize a new address, either.

So is this gonna be a replacment for the old dvdaficondo? I hope not cause tbh I prefer the old one. The new features don't really make much difference to me, and I don't like the visual style of the new one. The old one was alot more... neater.

Right, so here's your 2.0 account: http://bordo316.dvdaf.net/owned . For some odd reason it requires that "owned" appears after the slash, otherwise you get a generic "Apache test site running properly". I assume this will be fixed for the public release version.

I just checked out a sample of what my collection would look like in the second version. I've noticed something different with the order in which DVDs are listed.
"Aladdin 2 & 3 Collection" now comes before "Aladdin - Platinum Edition - Collector's DVD Gift Set"
"Spider-Man 2 - Special Edition" now comes before "Spider-Man - Deluxe Edition"
"Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London - Special Edition" now comes before "Agent Cody Banks - Special Edition"
"Barbershop 2: Back in Business - Special Edition" now comes before "Barbershop - Special Edition"
It seems like numbers, even if they're in the middle of a movie title, take priority over letters. Even so, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" still comes before "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Secret of the Ooze". Anyway if this is all a glitch that needs to be fixed, then I hope it does get fixed. I've also noticed that one item that I have listed in my "Have Seen" section doesn't show up in that section in the version 2.0.

Well I don't know if this applies to your Have Seen folder's one item, but everyone's collections aren't entirely up to date yet. They're as recent as about a week ago. Otherwise, I have no clue.

I just hope they can fix all the bugs before actually activating it.

The DVD Aficionado 2.0 preview has been refreshed. This change should reflect any new titles you bought in the last month or so. Ex: http://speedy-boris.dvdaf.net/owned/Live-Action
And before you ask, no, I don't know when 2.0 will officially make its debut and replace 1.0. Ed's been very busy lately.
Ugh, I still utterly hate that Menu button on the side. Things that follow you when you scroll should be destroyed.
OK, this is weird, Serial Experiments Lain appears on my list (http://dnukem170.dvdaf.net/owned) before Patlabor, which appears before Dai-Guard (on 1.0, Dai-Guard was my first item). In fact, a lot of my custom lists are all screwed up now.
Not to mention that there's no longer any spaces between words on the menus now. And since I have so many custom folders, I can't view them all.
Ugh. I'm hating 2.0 more and more every time I see it.

Yeah I'm not sure why they're having so much trouble with certain titles not appearing in the correct order. But rest assured, it's something that is being looked into.
Also, I rather like the following menu. I agree it's not really needed if you have a Home key, but I still like it.

I just updated my dvdaf account last night, with about 50 new discs (it's been awhile) and looking at my 2.0 account using the format you mentioned, it seems to have lost the custom folders I created last night. All the old ones are there, but my "TV Shows" folder and my (Owned) A-M and (Owned) N-Z don't seem to be there, as well as the titles I added. Does 2.0 use a seperate database?

If you JUST updated your DVDAF account last night, your changes won't show up in 2.0 because the data refresh happened a couple days ago, and it's not actively or automatically updated. The way it's going right now, Ed is doing one massive update/refresh once a month while he continues to fix bugs and such.

I can't get to my 2.0 because of the underscore in my username. So I haven't really been messing with it.

Good to know. I'll keep messing with it, I like it so far, but I think my favorite feature is the paging. In 1.0 I had over 500 titles in my "Owned" folder, so there was no way for me to see any of them that didn't show up in the first 500 :( That's why I split them up into A-M and N-Z but I don't really like don't really like doing that...

Hence why I divide my titles by series. Plus, it's easier on my poor 56K.
