In "Body of the Sanctioned", what did Ed mean exactly when he said the stone was "recoiling", and what was the meaning of Cornello's arm doing what it did as the stone recoiled?

iirc, Recalling is when a transmutation goes awry (though, granted, Cornello didn't appear to be transmuting something when it happened). The stone hit its limit, had a misfire-transmutation, and his arm went all freaky.
