If you have the Stand Alone Complex O.S.T.+ or O.S.T. 2, you'll find a song on there called "GET9". On the GitS: SAC US TV run and the DVDs, this song is nowhere to be found.

So after some research (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=910), it seems "GET9" was used for the Japanese TV rerun airing of SAC.

If only it were that simple. It seems there are two versions of each intro: "Inner Universe", "GET9", and "Rise", for a total of six. There's also an intro called "Christmas in the Silent Forest", who knows what that's for?

So, if anyone here is familiar with the Japanese TV runs or the DVD release of SAC, or if you can read Japanese, please shed some light on what/where all these intros go. Thank you.

On what DVD is that screen capture taken from?

I believe the blue one in between "Play All" and "Main Menu" is the 2D version of "Inner Universe," which is basically a clip intro.

On what DVD is that screen capture taken from? That would be the Section 9 File DVD.

Left: Inner Universe 2D intro
Top center: Inner Universe 3D intro
Center center: GET9 A-Type (semi-3D)
Bottom center: GET9 B-Type (has some 2nd GIG footage, probably as a teaser for season 2 while reruns of season 1 were airing)
Top right: Rise (similar to GET9 B-Type, but with Individual 11 footage instead of Laughing man footage)
Right center: Rise (trench coat intro)
Bottom right: Christmas in the Silent Forest (I still don't know if it's a special episode)

Someone needs to send ASF some clips of Get9. I definately want to see it now that my interest is piqued

I'm currently working on 848x480 H.264 versions of these intros for ASF.

The reason I made this thread was to try to find out some information for the clip descriptions. If anyone can translate the clip titles from that screenshot, it would be most helpful.

And if anyone has the "I Do" ending from season 1, we still need it.

That would be the Section 9 File DVD. Is that the GitS:SAC Log DVD's that are coming out in the U.S. or is this something else? Because I've been wanting to see Get9's animation for forever!!!

I'll help you out with what I know of the Intro/Outro's from reading stuff online about the subject.

Left: Inner Universe 2D intro Original show intro from the pay channel (i.e. a network like HBO) that GitS:SAC originally ran on. They didn't have the 3D one finished, so they had to use this for a few episodes instead. TylerL has it up at his http://asfdotcom.net/ site (under Downloads|Ghost in the Shell:SAC)

Top center: Inner Universe 3D introThis intro swapped out with the first one and is the only S1 intro to have been used in the United States DVD's and TV broadcasts (it is also available from TylerL's site).

Center center: GET9 A-Type (semi-3D)This is the OP that aired with the broadcast/basic cable (not sure exactly what the channel is) airing of the first season. This is considered a re-run of the season by some fans but I think that's not quite the right way of thinking about it. Instead, this is more like the situation with the show Stargate SG1, where the show first airs on cable a year before it does in broadcast syndication. I've personally never seen it but I sure would like to :anime:.

Bottom center: GET9 B-Type (has some 2nd GIG footage, probably as a teaser for season 2 while reruns of season 1 were airing) Not sure what this is though I think your theory is probably close on that. I've never seen this one either and would be just as interested in seeing it.

Top right: Rise (similar to GET9 B-Type, but with Individual 11 footage instead of Laughing man footage) No idea - may be a teaser as well.

Right center: Rise (trench coat intro) Second seasons original OP on its Pay channel run.

Bottom right: Christmas in the Silent Forest (I still don't know if it's a special episode) Second seasons OP for the broadcast/basic cable (whatever it is) run. I ran into a link that had this up around six months ago (it's no longer there, I'm sure), so I've seen it. I also read that this OP was shown at a U.S. convention a while back (I think it might have been San Diego Comics Con but don't quote me on that), when Bandai was showing off the show prior to the DVD's being shown, confusing a few people as to which OP we would get. It is very different from "Rise" both musically and style wise. Kind of cool in the animation departement but IMO they did the right thing going with "Rise" over it (the song is laid back compared to "Rise" and I can't see the Adult Swim viewers taking to it all that well).

All of the OPs and ED's show up on the three Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex OSTs, with full length versions of "Inner Univerese" and "Lithum Flower," as well as TV edit versions of "Rise" and "Get9," being on the U.S. version of OST 1 (the TV edits are not on the original Japanese CD release but were later put out on a extended version CD re-release of that particular OST). Then full length versions of "Rise" and "Get9" and "Living Inside the Shell" (ED 2) are on OST 2, while "Christmas in the Silent Forest" is on OST 3. At this point only GitS:SAC OST 1 & 2, and Be Human (a mini OST, which doesn't include any of the OP/ED themes) are available in the U.S. but I believe OST 3 may be coming out next year. I've also heard from someone who's more into this and seen both shows that all of the music will show up in episodes of GitS: SAC or 2nd Gig at some point or the other, though to tell more would put me in a situation where I'd have to spoil a bit (and I could be wrong - it's been a while since this subject came up for discussion with the other poster).

One other thing - the ED for GitS:SAC that's up at TylerL's site isn't the same one that was used on Adult Swim or the U.S. DVD release . My guess is there must be at least two ED's for S1 as well, which may mean there are two (at least) ED's for 2nd Gig. However, I've not read anything about it one way or another online/offline but I've never heard anyone mention there where two ED's for Season 1 but obviously there were if Tyler's got a different one than what was on the U.S. DVDs .

Anyway, that's pretty much what I know about this - hope that helps you out :).

PS: I just noticed you work with TylerL - sorry about that

Thanks for the info. Every bit helps. The intros should be on ASF the week of December 19th.

Is that the GitS:SAC Log DVD's that are coming out in the U.S. or is this something else? Because I've been wanting to see Get9's animation for forever!!! There are so many GitS DVDs, it's hard to keep track of them all.

These two are "movie" versions of the the main plotlines in each SAC season :)

And if anyone has the "I Do" ending from season 1, we still need it. It's called "Lithium Flower."

Hope no one minds me asking this since it seems relevant with the topic- how exactly do the US DVDs of the series break down? I assumed it was just regular and standard addition but a brief look at Amazon has confused me. So how many types are there and which are the best? And if anyone can answer (Ian?) how do the UK releases compare?

In general, there's the standard edition and the limited edition. The limited edition includes the regular disc with 5.1 Surround & Extras, as well as a separate disc with a DTS soundtrack (no extras though), plus an extra thingy like a soundtrack or figurine or mousepad or something. The easy way to differentiate between the two is to look at their packaging. The regular version of GITS comes in regular packaging, while the special editions come in boxes/tins. An easy way to tell the difference online in 2ng Gig is the front cover. If the coverart is the entire picture, it's the standard edition. Special editions are a black box with a transparent center so you can see the DVDs inside (though sometimes they come loose in Volumes 1 & 2).

Official Log Book is a supplement book full of interviews & stuff.

Duke already kinda explained the US releases, as for the uk ones they are essentially the standard edtion ones, but with the DTS disc aswell.

Of course theres an uber cheap 1st GIG box set out in the uk. Disc 1s only, so no DTS but it is only £35 on play.com.

2nd GIG will be starting next year in the uk, hopefully without the stupid "metal" cases.

Oh and the first Offical Log has been released too. Nice to see it getting a pretty big push by HMV too.
