Eh, this comparison has been done before, and it's never worked for me.
Both shows I like but for totally different reasons. Futurama is more entertaining, with more subtle jokes and a focus on Story and characterization. Family Guy is all about cheap shots and a quick laugh. It trades in establishment of a good (or even believeable) story to support its jokes.
Because of this, I find it impossible for me to decide which I like better...when I like each for vastly different reasons.

I like Futurama more, but that's because I've never really gotten into Family Guy.
My main critism of Family Guy is this: There are way too many non-sequiturs. Futurama's 22 minutes are usually filled with about 22 minutes of story. Family has so many jumps to stuff that has no bearing on the story that maybe 10 minutes of the show actually says something. It's like most of the scripts are written by someone who has severe ADD.
I like both series, but prefer Futurama....which I feel had better storylines/humor.It also had a cast of great characters, that you could really care about, even while laughing at them...
Don't get me wrong,Family Guy is very funny, but the storylines aren't that great usually(though the cut-aways are almost always funny),and the characters for the most part just aren't as likeable(with the exception of Brian and Stewie)...

Futurama. I've been sick of the FG reruns for a long time, I have never gotten sick of Futurama.

this reason but backwards. I like Family Guy more but only because I've never really gotten into Futurama. There, IMO, is nothing that's greater in one show that's not in the other. They both have ups and downs.

It's a somewhat wanting question as the two shows are sufficiently different that comparing them doesn't quite come out rightly.
Irrespective of that, if I were forced to compare them, I would favor Futurama.
With regards only to the amount a given show has made me laugh, Family Guy has a clear advantage, at least so far as the first run of episodes is concerned, but that is largely because Family Guy is principally concerned with jokes, very near to the exclusion of other factors. It's a successful formula and one that's worked well for it, but it is also a very limiting one. While not as perpetually hilarious as Family Guy can be at its best, Futurama is a very funny show on its own.
Futurama's humor is often more sophisticated and character-derived than the humor of Family Guy, which is lord of its domain of non-sequiturs, absurdity, and pop cultural gags, and thus more satisfying. There is something innate in laughing at something because one has perceived the humor as it draws from the characters and context as much as whatever might be funny about something on its own that provokes a more deeply resonant, in terms that aren't figurative, laugh. Futurama's humor also relies less on the novelty of a given joke. Family Guy's popular culture jokes can wear thin over time since there is comparatively little to the joke that can engage the viewer whereas Futurama's jokes rely more interpertation, they can hold one's amusement more persistently.
Futurama is also a more complete show in that the characters and story are more important to any given show or the show as a whole and have some continuity within the overall framework of the whole series. The care often paid to the emotions of the characters and the interrelations of events of a later episode with those of an earlier one and the fact that there is sufficient fullness to these emotions to make this continuity effective provides Futurama with a fuller presence in the mind and memory. I can recall numerous gags from Family Guy, but for Futurama I can draw up the memory of entire stories from both episodes and from those that ran through the episode as a whole.
I rank Futurama above Family Guy because the individual elements of Futurama are more important than they are in Family Guy and as such the whole of the series has a considerably greater sum.

Here's my deal:
If both premiered at the same time I will tell you for sure that Family Guy's jokes are funnier.
If both are re-aired repeatedly, I'd start to like Family Guy much less and enjoy Futurama a little more.
Sounds confusing? Basically what I'm trying to say is that Futurama has better stories and their jokes aren't so much of a "one time only" thing that Family Guy tends to be. Some Family Guy jokes can remain funny at times but jokes for example like The Good Times joke (Florida, they call me Florida!) do get old over time as well as jokes like the ones where Peter falls and makes that one noise repeatedly.
I may sound weird for this, but that's how it works for me.

I find Futurama to be the better show of the two series. It has intelligence to it that shines in it's details. For example, in the first (pilot) episode, note the shadow shown under the desk right before Fry is frozen. The creators of the series were thinking way ahead when they made the Futurama series.
Of it's entire run, there was only one episode I did not like, they rest of them ranged from true comic genius (the superhero cream episode) to heartbreaking tragedy (the ending to Episdoe J. Bark).
Also, Futurama rarely ever insulted it's audience, unlike Family Guy.
I wish Futurama was continued instead of Family Guy, it was a truly good series.
What the last three posters wrote pretty much covers my views when comparing the two.
Futurama all the way.

I'd say Family Guy by a hair. I've watched Futurama since it started, but theres just been something about it that just makes me go blah when i see it now. I can still SOMEHOW stand to watch Family Guy, after seeing it millions of times like the rest of you lol. But all in all i just like Family Guy more, Futurama is a great show also, but just not my type a thing.

Honestly, I don't know. Both shows are rightful heirs to the FOX throne when The Simpsons finally ups and dies, but Futurama was cancelled and many fans are worrying that bringing back Family Guy for new episodes isn't such a good idea. I mean, Family Guy isn't as dramatic and in-depth as Futurama, but as far as the current Simpsons episodes are, I'd much rather watch Family Guy (even if it is done for cheap laughs).
However, there was a time when FG first came out that I hated the show (because for one reason or another, I thought The Simpsons was still good--and no, I wasn't drunk or high when I thought this. I was stupid). When Futurama first came out, I thought it was okay. Not as funny as The Simpsons, but definitely does things that The Simpsons wished they could do (or have done, but not done well), so my vote is Futurama since I liked that show before FG.

Family Guy works if you want flat out humour, Futurama works for something with more depth.

Family Guy. I just can't get into Futurama again. I don't really care about Fry, Leela, Bender, Amy, etc. anymore. If the Futurama producers would either get rid of or tone down Bender, I'd like Futurama a lot more. As for the rest of the show - Fry's pursuit of Leela was about the only interesting storyline the series had, but the writers did a lot of great stuff with it. I think the problem with the show as a whole is that it didn't really have a "handle" that a decent-sized audience could get ahold of. Spoofs only go so far; people can't identify with caricatures IMO. Matt Groening's "The Simpsons", for all its outlandishness, still had at its core a family, which is something everyone can identify with. Futurama lacked that core. Plus its characters were too reminiscent of "Simpsons" characters, especially Bender and Fry, who were Homer clones IMO. Still...I'd like it if Fox renewed Futurama IF a stronger storyline was established and the cast made more human and more likeable. Or at least Fox could bankroll a direct-to-video production...

All of you who like Family Guy said it's better than Futurama, but you have yet to give any examples as to why you think this. Unlike those of us who like Futurama better have given a number of examples for our opinions. To me, anyway, here's how it breaks down:
Family Guy's strengths lie in its unpredictability, its great voice acting, its top notch comic timing, plenty of catchy songs/orchestral BGM, and multi-tiered jokes. Its weaknesses include some cutaways going on longer than they need to (especially this season), little continuity (though to be fair it wasn't attempting it in the first place), some parodies that exist just to place the show's characters in exact duplicates of the source material except for one small difference, and, for the most part, so-so storyboarding.
Futurama's strengths include solid characterization, a seamless mix of 2D and 3D visuals, some truly emotional episodes ("Jurassic Bark", "The Luck of the Fryrish"), a great cast, and some of the funniest future gags ever made. Its weaknesses include some of plots that don't take advantage of the material ("That's Lobstertainment", "A Leela of Her Own"), not as many LOL moments as Family Guy, and too much in common with The Simpsons from a visual design standpoint.
It's a tough call. I'd say they're equal for now.

They're both good, but it's hard to say which is better. I mean, I like Futurama better, but that doesn't mean it is better. Your question was "which is better" and it's hard to say. I like Futurama better than Family Guy, if that's what you're asking.

Hey I never said I thought Family Guy was better than Futurama. I'd just rather watch that one (FG) over the other. If you ask me (and I'm sure you wouldn't but I'm gonna say it anyway) both shows are attempted copies of the Simpsons including American Dad. Alot of the plots and situations are too similar and it makes them both kinda boring and preditctable. However, if it was a toss up between FG and Futurama I'd have a better time watching FG. Not to mention FG is atelast putting out new episodes even if the voices are faltering. The FG characters have more to go on then the Futurama ones. The talking dog and intelegent baby that hates his mother are alot better than the homer wannabe robot and one eyed girl. That's just my opinion.

It's as simple as this...
For a comedy show.... I wanna laugh... ALOT.
So that's why I think Family Guy is better than Futarama.
It's alot funnier to me.

To me, it's not even a contest. I think of "Futurama" as being the very best show on television of this decade ("The Daily Show" is a close runner up). It's smart, it has ingenious stories, wonderful characters, and is consistently hilarious. In an average episode, every or nearly every joke would be funny, and there'd be one every few seconds. There were few dud episodes in the whole run. It's probably the most unjustly cancelled show of all time, considering it was actually topping itself just as it was given the axe.
I used to really enjoy "Family Guy". Then I just honestly kind of outgrew it, and I don't find it's style of humor all that funny anymore. But I never liked it nearly as much as "Futurama" anyway.
It starts with an "F" and ends with..............RAMA!
