View Full Version : November 29th, 2005 -- what are you getting this week?

Making their way from theaters to DVD are Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigalo, March of the Penguins, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and Sky High. Those last three are also being issued in full-frame and widescreen editions, so be sure to grab the right one. Lila Says and the documentary Murderball are also coming out this week.
Heading direct to video are Death to the Supermodels, Havoc (available in rated and unrated editions), and...wait for it...wait for it...The Mangler Reborn.
To ring in Kermit the Frog's 50th birthday, The Great Muppet Caper, A Muppet Christmas Carol, The Muppet Movie, and Muppet Treasure Island are all being re-released. Peter Jackson's The Frighteners is hitting stores in an unrated director's cut, alongside deluxe editions of Legends of the Fall and A River Runs Through It.
There's not as much TV-on-DVD stuff to rattle off as usual -- the first season of Project Runway, the fifth season of CSI, and the full run of Mission Hill are the only full season sets. The mini-series Empire, the TV movie Their Eyes Were Watching God, and volumes of Family Guy and Zatoichi round out the list.
A few collections are coming out in time for the holidays, including a set of all three Jurassic Park flicks, a two-pack with King Kong vs. Godzilla and King Kong Escapes, a Land Before Time double feature, all the recent The Mummy movies, and all the Tremors stuff.
For a list of some of the best prices as well as the latest price drops for existing titles, check Mike Frezon's weekly thread on the Home Theater Forum (http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htforum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=246566) and SalesCircular.com (http://www.salescircular.com/). A relatively comprehensive list of this week's releases can be found at DVD Talk (http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/bargain.php) and ComingSoon.net (http://www.comingsoon.net/dvd/).
So -- what are you getting this week? I'm hopelessly backlogged (stupid Xbox 360!), so it'll be a while before I buy anything new.

Sunday, I picked up Panyo Panyo Di Gi Charat - Volume 3 and DuckTales - Volume 1 (which so far, to my surprise, has been quite mediocre and pales in comparison to Rescue Rangers). I also found Galaxy Angel - Vol. 2 at a Big Lots for $3.99.
I've pre-ordered Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi Vols. 1 & 2 as well as Pokemon Advanced Challenge: Vols. 3 & 4 from Amazon, which are expected to ship soon.

I picked up both Family Guy: Volume Three and Mission Hill: The Complete Series. Same here. I'm pleased with the Family Guy set, even if it is only 13 episodes, but the Mission Hill set kind of pisssed me off. I understand why they don't want to pay extra for songs in the show originally (i.e. R.E.M.'s everybody hurts) and in most cases it was either just background music or only on for afew seconds, but it really hurt the places they left it out of imo :(
I'm mainly sad because I've waited so long for this set, and it's not as good as the one I created myself from the shows I recoded off the tv... commentaries were good though.

As far as I know it was always Dec 6th.
I've seen three different dates. November 1 was the one I had for a long time. I went to get it, and the guy at the store said it had been pushed back to November 29. So the other day I double-checked on-line before heading out, and now I find December 6.

Picked up the Muppet Xmas Carol. Aside from the widescreen version, it is pretty much the same disc that came out before... although it doesn't have the interview with Brian Henson with the behind the scenes stuff which is why I'm keeping both discs.

Well, I got my replacement disc for Thundercats seaason 1-part 1 since one of the episodes on it didn't have background music in the English track. It took long enough for it to get to me though. They even included an envelope so I can return the defective disc to them.
Getting into the Christmas spirit, I bought Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban for my cousin. He already has Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone on VHS, but I was still going to get the box set of the first three movies for him, and order them from deepdiscountdvd.com, since I thought that would be cheaper than getting him the second and third movies. Well, it would have been, if I had thought of getting the box set from deepdiscountdvd.com a lot earlier, when I could have taken advantage of the 20% discount sale they were having last month. Oh well.

Does leaving out that sound ever make a big difference in the episode. Not only does it change the scene, but it makes the "Everybody Hurts" sing-along at the end seem incredibly random. I think the lack of the R.E.M. song was the major music difference I noticed.

I decided that with the neglect my PS2 and Gamecube have received, I couldn't justify spending roughly $500 on the XBox 360. So I dipped into my savings and bought Bad Boy Bubby, ROH Round Robin Challenge, Clerks 10th Anniversary Edition, and the coup de grace
