I know a bunch of you are probably excited about Batman vs. Dracula (review! (http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=6761)), so I'll mention that first. Another notable animated release, The Polar Express, is being issued in several different packages. Other collections this week include Aeon Flux (timed to coincide with the Charlize Theron movie) and the fifth season of King of the Hill.
There's another animated release to point out, part of this week's King Kong onslaught -- the animated Kong - King of Atlantis. The original King Kong is being issued in an elaborate special edition package, along with Son of Kong, the '76 take on King Kong, and Mighty Joe Young.
King Kong's not the only classic coming out on DVD this week, as Criterion is adding Ran and The Tales of Hoffmann to their collection. Depending on how you interpret the word "classic", there's also a second volume in the Shirley Temple Collection.
This week's most notable recent theatrical release is the re-imagining of War of the Worlds, available in a couple of different editions. A few limited theatrical releases are making their way to DVD -- 9 Songs (available in rated/unrated versions), Novo, Now and Forever, and Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. A special edition of the documentary Winged Migration, with cover art shamelessly riding the coattails of March of the Penguins, rounds out the theatrical end of things.
Alien vs. Predator and Cheaper by the Dozen are being reissued as special editions, the former also being an unrated director's cut. Heading direct to video this week are the long-awaited sequel to 8MM (???), the Lord of the Rings fan-doc Ringers: Lord of the Fans, and Werewolf Hunter: Legend of Romasanta.
On the TV-on-DVD end of things, we have the first seasons of Leave It to Beaver (also available in a gift set) and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, the third seasons of CSI: Miami, Golden Girls, and Home Improvement, the fourth season of The Andy Griffith Show, and the fifth and sixth seasons of Seinfeld.
For a list of some of the best prices as well as the latest price drops for existing titles, check Mike Frezon's weekly thread on the Home Theater Forum (http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htforum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=246189) and SalesCircular.com (http://www.salescircular.com/). A relatively comprehensive list of this week's releases can be found at DVD Talk (http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/bargain.php) and ComingSoon.net (http://www.comingsoon.net/dvd/).
So -- what are you getting this week? I just got in an overwhelmingly large shipment from Deep Discount DVD that'll take me months to sift through, although I really want that King Kong tin.
