FROM WWW.TVSHOWSONDVD.COM (http://www.TVSHOWSONDVD.COM)
Over the course of the four years that TVShowsOnDVD.com has been around, we have seen how some shows inspire fans to very 'passionate' levels of DVD interest. One of these shows we've noticed is Gimme A Break, the classic NBC sitcom that starred Nell Carter and Dolph Sweep. A not-so-small group of fans have very loudly been wanthing this show on DVD, and it seems the studio has taken notice of that! So those fans - those of you reading this story, most likely - finally have some good news to dance about!
Dolph Sweet played Police Chief Carl Kanisky, whose wife has just died and who needs help running his household and rasing his three daughters. So he asks Nell Harper (Nell Carter), a friend os his late wife, to come run his house and to be like a mother to the kids. A few episodes in the third season, young Joey Lawrence would join the cast (eight years before his breakout role on Blossom) would as a foster child Nell adopts, whose introduction to the Kanisky clan is as a pint-sized con artist collecting for "Jerry's Kids" (meaning himself, by way of his Uncle Jerry". A couple of seasons later, Dolph Sweet dies of cancer, and his character dies as well on the show. So now Nell was mother and father to all four kids. The series lasted for a total of six seasons.
The first season, Gimme A Break - Season One will arive on DVD at last on February 14th. This Valentine's Day treat will consist of 3 single-sided DVDs containing 19 half-hour episodes and running 468 minutes total. Packaging is in "thinpak" slim cases inside of an outer slipcover box. Video and audio is in the original 1:33:1 full frame and Enlgish mono with English subtitles as well. Extras have not been announced, but there ought to be some as there is plenty of spare room on the third disc for some bonus content. SRP is a modest $34.98 for this set. You can see the small "thumbnail" shot of the cover art; we'll bring you a full-sized shot just as soon as we can so stay tuned!
