Howdy,

Just found this out on another blog (http://www.beaucoupkevin.com/2005/11/file-under-subtext-what-subtext1-from.html):

William Hootkins, famous for being the Rebel X-Wing pilot "Red Six" in Star Wars IV; has passed away at 58.

Hootkins was fighting a battle with pancreatic cancer, after being diagnosed earlier this year. He passed away at St. Johns Hospital, near his home in Santa Monica, California.

His first film role, in 1977, was Jedi fighter Jek Porkins, in the famous film, Star Wars.

Maybe it's not high art and maybe he only had a few minutes of screen time that drew a few unintentional giggles as Biggs says, "Cover me Porkins!" But for better or for worse, he's a tiny little chunk of my childhood memories.

R.I.P. William Hootkins. They're flying a missing man formation with X-Wings somewhere.

Dang, his real name was cooler than his character's name.

"Red 6, Red 5. Hoot, you're my wing."

A Good man, his character was one of the more important "Cannon fodder" from the movies.

How sad. And only 58. That's still way too early to go. He was also in RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK and the original BATMAN. I agree with you, Ace. Just a small part, but a part of my childhood nonetheless.

RIP, Will.
