Simple question really...who of the five is your favourite as Britain's top secret agent?

Mine would have to be Roger Moore. He was the smoothest, most entertaining and handled Bond's one-liners brilliantly. Not only that but he could be perfectly ruthless when called for (I hate it when people say that Moore basically joked his way through all his films). For me, Moore IS Bond.

The order after that for me is Brosnan, Connery, Dalton and Lazenby.

Cool...

Moore doesn't even qualify, he was a poor excuse for James Bond in all his movies. I haven't seen Lazenby's lone Bond flick so I can't comment on him either. Out of Connery, Dalton, and Brosnan, I liked Brosnan the best for a couple of reasons. For one thing, I grew up watching him, and for another, I felt that he did the best job of adding the humor to Bond along with everything else. The 007 movies aren't known for their dramatic aspect as the lead character often comes off as one-dimensional, yet Pierce did the best he could and I thought he came off very well. His James in Day Another Day and Goldeneye was particularly amusing and funny to watch. He could also play the few dramatic scenes in his films when he needed to, namely in The World is Not Enough.

Second place would go to the original 007, Sean Connery. Connery did an excellent job playing the character in his earliest Bond movies but later on he got consumed with making the dough and as a result his performance suffered considerably. I will always remember him for Dr. No, From Russia with Love and Goldfinger, easily his three greatest Bond pictures.

I liked Tim Dalton as Bond but I always thought he didn't fit the part. Don't ask me why but to me he looked more like a villian than a hero. He wasn't particularly funny either, which is one of 007's greatest appeals in my opinion.

Two votes for Moore but none for Connery yet? Better take care of that right now.

The original is usually the best, and this is true for 007. Brosnan is SO close to beating him out, but you just can't top the suave stylings of Sean Connery.

Though I was introduced to Bond through the Sean Connery films, my favorite ultimately became Timothy Dalton. I thought he was excellent, and he's the only actor who really played the character the way Ian Flemming wrote him. I feel he got jiffed when he wasn't asked back and only got two movies.

My favs, in order, would be: Dalton, Connery, Moore, Brosnan, and Lazenby.

I think Lazenby did a good job and could have made the part his own had he stuck around for more movies. Brosnan had his moments (GOLDENEYE was awesome, and I love when he kills the assassin in the hotel room in TOMORROW NEVER DIES), but there were more Moore movies that I liked than there were Brosnan ones.

My favorite was Sean Connery. Second Pierce...forgot the last name...

I liked watching the old movies actually more than the new ones...wierd because I mostly love the new stuff...this is different. Very unusual.
I wonder how the next Bond will do.

Ok time for a serious answer...

Connery - As the song goes, nobody does it better. Sean had the ultimate combination of ruthlessness and machismo which all the other Bonds have tried to immate and not suceeded at (well maybe not Timothy Dalton). Even a cineturd like Never Say Never Again comes off as a success for Master Sean.

Lazenby - I like him (waits for the hatemail to arrive). He took a different approach to the character, more down to earth than Connery but not nearly as silly as Moore. Helps that his sole film On Her Majesties Secret Service is one of the best Bonds of all.

Moore - Roger Moore's performance is sort of a double edged sword. His earlier films (Live and Let Die and Man With The Golden Gun) had him try to recapture Connery's brutality with middling success. His later films such as Moonraker and Octopussy had him playing the role for laughs. It is only in For Your Eyes Only where his performance is most balanced and successful.

Dalton - Second best Bond. Brought the franchise back to the Ian Flemming source which it had moved away from gradually. Also doesn't wear out his welcome like Roger did.

Brosnan - Well... Goldeneye was terrific but the scripts just kept getting lamer and lamer. And Die Another Day is not my idea of a swansong.

It's probably not fair to Dalton, but I can't help but think Mighty Mouse when I see him, and not James Bond.

Connery defined the role and he was good at it. Brosnan for me is the closest to meeting Connery.

Roger Moore took it in another direction and played it almost as well.

Dalton's beneath them.

Lazenby I can't place as I've never seen his lone movie.

I'm going with Bronson. I really liked his Bond. Roder More would probably be my second choice since I grew up with him mainly being Bond. My Dad was a big Sean Connery fan. If not for him I probably would have never been into the Bond films at all.

The best portrayal of Bond--in my humble opinion--was Sean Connery in the first three movies: Doctor No, From Russia With Love, and Goldfinger.

I went for Pierce but I could EASILY gone for Sean. I love both of them. I found Moore too smug and perhaps the epitome of the now Bond cliche, far derived from the books.

Sean has the confidence, subtle charm and focus one would expect from a Bond. I dearly adore him and especially his earlier stories (From Russia With Love and Goldfinger in particular).

I adore Brosnan for his more intense and forceful charm. There is little that's subtle with Brosnan, which may be a little far from source, but I think it makes for a strong leading man and though the stories were far less consistent compared to Sean's era, he pulled them through.

Furthermore, it's hard to stand proud on the back of legends. After several decades of history, establishing yourself as an icon in a way that differs from the past yet keeps homage is difficult. I think Pierce found a balance in remain very British yet with a hint of emotion that was rarely present before.

Sean and Pierce. I went for Pierce on the flip of coin.

I am going to die before I see Boromir or the one-dimensional villain from Nation Treasure play James Bond.

Hopefully.

But yeah I'd have to go with Pierce Brosnan.

Brosnan is good for acting and the general "feel", but he just didn't get the opportunity to really get to play the role in...well, that many movies that actually worked.
Goldeneye was very good and Tomorrow Never Dies was okay, but the other two more or less sucked.

Connery.

Connery, of course. He gave the best performance of the part in most of the series' best films. Until someone plays the part in a movie that's better than From Russia with Love, the original gets to stay on top.

Brosnan should've been second best, and maybe he still is, but he never really got his chance. I liked Goldeneye a lot, but from there onward the quality of the films declined. I couldn't even finish The World is Not Enough. I actually had wanted him to be retained at least for Casino Royale, just so he might have the opportunity to get one more good film.

Dalton seemed slightly out of place, but despite that, he was rather good. Moore didn't impress me and certainly stayed on too long.

Lazenby... I have no idea. I've never seen On Her Majesty's Secret Service and I just don't feel very compelled to do so.
