I've just finished working on the translations of the DVD commentary in Jackie Chan's new film "The Myth" this morning after going through 2 all-nighters (had to deal with personal issues in between) and finally finished them on the last minute. at 9:30am in toronto time, it was due in 8 hours before the master copy gets sent out for replication.

so it was completed much sooner than we thought. it was scheduled to come out on the 21st of this month and now, the street release date has been pushed up to November 17th.

What I can tell you all is that every single special feature has been translated and subbed into English including making of's, deleted scenes, interviews, commentary, etc...etc... Some are even in spoken in English (like the Cannes Festival featurette). So this is a very loaded DVD we're talking about here. The Avant-Garde Edition even has a full bitrate DTS track which will only be playable if you have a DTS decoder (no Dolby 5.1 track available. The standard edition will have a half bitrate DTS and Dolby 5.1 track, and the commentary track.

Anyway, expect a demo-quality DVD for this film. even if you're not a Jackie Chan fan, this dvd is definitely worth your time.

I love this flick to death, even though when I screened it with my club I only understood about 80% of it (I'm staff on a Taiwanese student club at one of the University of Toronto campuses). Not a particularly deep film, though it's better and more epic than most Jackie Chan flicks. Guess I'm just a sucker for those "love lost and reunited" stories, especially when there's a hot Korean princess involved. And there's also the rat glue factory scene.

I'm sorry, what DVD company are you with? I did a quick search on amazon and didn't turn up anything for this disc, but thats great if an official copy is coming out soon.

I'm not with any company. But I am helping Joy Sales Video on the DVD release of this movie. The DVD comes next week in Chinese dvd stores in North America. I was at the premiere in Roy Thomson a couple of months ago.

You can reserve it at yesasia.com
they have a listing of the DVD. it's going to confuse a few people because there are like 3-4 separate edition released at the same time and with different listing of features and technical specs.

if you have a perfect home theatre and want a demo quality release, go for the Avant-Garde Edition, this edition will only carry a full bitrate DTS audio track and the commentary. no Dolby 5.1, i repeat, NO DOLBY 5.1 on this dvd. it was remastered in Japan so you can expect a "Superbit" level quality on this release.

otherwise, i recommend you to go for the standard dvd.
DTS (half bitrate), dolby 5.1, and you're set.

well, the dvd's finally out.

i would personally want to thank William Lau in Hong Kong for allowing me the opportunity to work on this project, Judy-Francis from Hawaii and Pete for editing my translation and making it look more presentable.

I've finally checked out the dvd. subs are fine, grammar is good, thank god~!
i may have slacked off a bit but i had it all done in 2 all-nighters. never thought it can ever done but it did. and all that hard work paid off.
