Jeez... it's that time already? Well, all I've got now is about $67.47. That could buy me Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?; Wacky Races; and possibly something else (like Braceface or Rave Master).

Dang... let me see if I can scrounge up more cash by Wednesday or something.

......Lovely. None of the seven DVD sets on my want list this year come out during the sale. Except for DuckTales, but guess what--it's out of stock. It would have cost $19 if it had been there. &^%%$&^ $19!!
I checked out the preorders, and all the DVDs I want are at the same price here as they're going to be on opening day anyway. If you can't get something from DDD, try opening day. DuckTales, however, already opened and I couldn't find it anywhere.

This is strange. Last week, before the sale, several items I had in my shopping cart were cheaper (only by a few dollars). Do they usually jack up the prices a bit before the sales? With the discount codes, it's still cheaper than before, but that seems awfully underhanded to me.

The first post here says "no preorders," and I'd think that would cover anything not in stock.Unless they've changed their policy, something that has been released, but is out of stock is part of the sale. One of my DVDs has been out of stock almost every time. Once you order it the price is locked in.

Put Ducktales in your shopping cart then put in a code. I've done it myself and it goes from $23.89 to $19.11.

Ordered the invader zim dvds on the 11th for my sisters christmas present, and they said all were in stock. 10 days later, after repeated emails, the first two disks and the zim house box were finally shipped and set to arrive in 5-10 days  The third disk is still backordered, and when I try to cancel it even though it's not in stock, they give me some cookie cutter email claiming it's been shipped from the warehouse and will ship to me soon.

I HATE DEEPDISCOUNTDVD!!! :evil::evil::evil:

These guys have the worst customer service I've ever dealt with, and a horrible system to keep you up to date on your order. They won't let you cancel even if an item is backordered, and when your order does finally ship out, it takes 10 days to arrive without a tracking number. It is simply not worth all the hassle to get a dvd for a few dollars cheaper.

So, if my DVDs ship on the 30th, and arrive ten days later, I should get them on the 9th or 10th of December... I'm a patient man. Just as long as my Christmas presents get here before Christmas, I'm happy.

Nevertheless, I can understand your impatience and frustration about the backorder... that may not arrive by Christmas. Though, there's no way you couldn't have known the item was backordered before you placed your order. You are partially at fault, angering as it may seem.

Calhoun07

To be fair, ordering during the busiest time of year with them is probably not the best time to test them on how fast they can be. I am sure a lot of stuff went out stock fast. And to their credit, with my orders, I had a couple things back ordered, and typically they won't ship your entire order until the back ordered item comes in (which was fine with me, as I was trying to count on that figuring it would spread out my spending money a bit more!) but this year, they shipped out my partial order and just left the item back ordered still on order. Now that's something they never did before (and amazon.com won't do it either if you select free shipping), especially if you select free shipping.

But for those who ordered during this sale, particularly later in the sale, they are probably a bit backed up at the moment. My first order they filled in 24 hours and had it out the door. It took them like two or three days to fill my other orders and get them out the door. But people order MASSIVE amounts from them during this time of year. Heck, over at DVDtalk.com alone, members there ordered tens of thousands of dollars worth of DVDs, and that's being conservative. I think it was actually more.

I say before you write them off, just keep those things in mind and give them another chance. I know it doesn't help out with your frustration now (and believe me, I was there a couple years ago when my shipment took just about the entire ten days to get to me and it was Christmas time!), but I hope that some of this helps.

I never had to cancel an item with them, but did you call them? And if it's still a point where they won't cancel it, you should be able to return it for a refund.

Though, there's no way you couldn't have known the item was backordered before you placed your order. You are partially at fault, angering as it may seem. Uh no, I'm not at fault. As I stated, I checked to make sure everything was IN STOCK before I ordered. Originally I added the entire box set to my shopping cart, which included everything in one item, but it was backordered. So, I ordered the three individual disks, PLUS the box with the bonus disk. Every single one of these were labeled IN STOCK when I ordered. It wasn't until days later when I checked to see what the holdup was when I noticed they changed the last disk to backordered. Even that said it will be back instock on the 14th, but that day has long since past. I also ordered on the FIRST day of the sale, so they shouldn't have been as backed up as they probably were on the last day of the sale. This is just the result of a poorly run website, who everyone gives a pass to because they are saving $1.50 on the DVD they might have purchased somewhere else. Is it really that complicated to get a realtime stock checker installed so you can be sure the item you are buying really is instock?

To be fair, ordering during the busiest time of year with them is probably not the best time to test them on how fast they can be. I am sure a lot of stuff went out stock fast. I ordered the first day of the sale as well, which makes 10 days to ship it out even more unacceptable. And at least when you use free shipping at amazon, they will actually update you on the status of your order on their own, and give you a tracking number. I'm not giving them another chance, because this already was their second chance. The first time I ordered from them, I purchased the Firefly DVD set, and it took 12 days to get to my house.

I've just had it with these people. Even if I was able to return it once it arrived to my house, then that would defeat the purpose entirely. I still want the DVDs, as they are a christmas present for my sister. I just don't think waiting 20 days for an item to arrive from an online retailer is acceptable, even If I did save ten dollars using their yearly sale.

Oh yeah, and anyone who spends thousands of dollars on dvds in one week is insane. :D

The reason these sales are popular is because you can save A LOT more than 1.50. They already have competive prices over all on many items, and some even cheaper than amazon.com, then you knock 20% off of that??? Take Twilight Zone season one. They have it listed for 83.00, and I took 20% off of that. I got it for about 70.00 shipped. At Best Buy, it's priced at 103.00. That's a substantial savings to me. And not just on that title, but I could point out SEVERAL titles. And the Invader Zim box goes for 77.98 on DDDVD. With 20% off, you would get it for somewhere around 62.00. Amazon.com? Oh, they are selling it for 103.96.

Now, I am not justifying the slow time it takes to get out their media mail free shipping boxes. Like I said in a previous thread, I also experienced some frustration in a previous sale where I was counting on getting a package faster than it came during the Christmas season, but you know what? You do have the option to pay for shipping, which is still a heck of a lot cheaper for those shipping options than you might find at other stores. A simple upgrade is 4.95. The reason I didn't do that this time around is 1) I already have a ton of DVDs unwatched, so they can take their time on any of the orders and I won't bat an eye and 2) I upgraded shipping on one of my big orders in one of their past sales figuring I would get it faster and then the next day I ordered a smaller order and opted for the free shipping, and I still got them both within a day apart (which was a fast turn around on both orders, actually) so in that instance I felt the upgrade wasn't worth it.

I know I won't change anybody's mind that swore off ordering from the site, but hopefully this post will help in some way with other people on the fence about this site.

I've been ordering from them for years now and have had miminal problems, and any problems I had were solved easilly with a phone call to them.

And I get the feeling that people who spend thousands in a week on this sale saved up during the year for it.

And I get the feeling that people who spend thousands in a week on this sale saved up during the year for it. Funny... I found the twilight zone season one set for 72 dollars without a 20% coupon over at superduperclub.com: http://store.superduperclub.net/ime-d2439d.html. It may be 75 dollars with shipping, but I can guarantee it will arrive alot quicker than it would coming from DDD. These guys even have a higher customer rating than DDD. I also can find the invader zim box shipped for 3 dollars more than the DDD price over at DVD Empire. Now I know with the 20% off I was able to save about 15 dollars, and that is why I purchased from them to begin with, but I'm just trying to prove a point that aside from their annual DVD sale, you really arn't saving any money purchasing DVDs from these guys. A lot of times they arn't the best price anyways, but people just assume they are because the name is DEEPDISCOUNTDVD. Even with the DVD sale, they jacked up the prices on a lot of disks so you really weren't saving much money anyways. (I know it may have been pressure from the movie studios, but still).

All I'm saying is, with the lowsy customer service, poorly programmed website, and superincrediblyslow shipping, these guys are not worth the miniscule savings you sometimes get. I'd much rather rely on www.pricegrabber.com (http://www.pricegrabber.com), or many of the other price comparison sites, to find the best prices on my internet purchases.

Well, I'm still waiting for my DuckTales DVD to come back in stock. I don't think it's DDD's fault--employees at electronics stores have told me they don't have control over what DVDs they get, the companies they order from decide that at random.

In other words, if Disney sent out every single DuckTales DVD set they ever plan to make on the first day, then I'll have it on "backorder" forever.

Certainly, by no means, does any one store have the difinitive sale! I think the DDDVD semi-annual sale has reached almost mythic porportions, but in some cases, even with the sale, you can find lower prices elsewhere. It's all about shopping around.
