Ok people come on everyone misses point and clicks, that is anyone who is a computer gamer of the past, i mean what was more fun than spending hours on end trying to figure out the next things to do in the Monkey Island or King's Quest games?

I would only play one of these if the storyline was compelling and/or it had some good gags. Zork: Grand Inquisitor and DiscWorld were awesome, but Myst? What do people see in that game? Unless you have an appreciation for the awe-inspiring backdrops.

Is Myst that game that was released for the Saturn? I remember playing that and I got nowhere. I didn't have a clue what I was supposed to do.

Ah, I wish I had a working old computer and working copies of some Lucas Arts adventure games. Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle (this one still works, I think), Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis (went missing).

There's an emulator on my handheld for playing those games :) The Lucas Arts point and click ones that is. I don't have any of them so I can't tell how well it works :( But maybe you could get one for PC too?

Trace Memory is a point and click, there's also Lost in The Blue which is another one for the DS.

I miss point and click a lot. But mostly I miss adventure games in general. I'd pay a huge amount of money to get a Grim Fandango sequel.

I love Grim Fandago...and it still works on my XP laptop. Most P&Cs after 1998 still should work.

Thirded. E-mail double fine (http://www.doublefine.com/).

There are still point-and-clickers these days, but they seem uncharacteristically humorless. I played Still Life, from The Adventure Company, which seems to be the one behind most of these, and it was just... exasperating and unfulfilling (http://joongangdaily.joins.com/200510/06/200510062155334509900091009101.html). Ugh.

But I eagerly await my Space Quest compilation (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000AYH89M/) and express irritation at its being pushed back three months.

What a coincidence, I just played through Grim Fandango again and finished it up the other day. It's still one of my favorites. When I first played the game, I got stuck in the casino in year 2 and never finished. Now I finally figured out how to print that damn ticket. Hurrah.

I played the whole King's Quest series growing up and absolutely loved them, though I still can't get through #3. Sierra and LucasArts games are still up there as some of my favorites. I'm psyched to hear about the Space Quest collection, I never got my hands on that particular series, so this is a great opportunity for me.

Psychonauts was an absolute blast, too, it just doesn't seem like most games these days have the sort of writing/dry humor that these do. I miss the adventure genre, and I wish more games like that would come out. Maybe then I'd actually have a few more video games that weren't either completely bizarre (Wario Ware, Katamari) or remakes of older ones.

I'm hoping to get Indigo Prophecy for Christmas, I played a demo of that and it seemed pretty cool. A bit more violent than I really care for, but the exploration aspect and point & click style of gameplay is pretty much in tact.

I only had 1 Sega CD game o_o Sonic CD. None of the others really caught my eye. And if I remember right, they were pretty dang expensive too.

I had that for PC. Played it like a madman, but I don't think I ever managed to beat it.

Indeed it is. Bundled with the other 5 in the series. To make betterness better, 4 and 6 are narrated by Gary Owens.

Yeah I love those old adventure games. King's Quest, Police Quest, Space Quest, Monkey Island, Discworld, Leisure Suit Larry...

I'm in the middle of Larry 3 and Discworld 1 at the moment, but stuck on both.

Yeah, I would give my left....well, anything.... for a new Maniac Mansion/Day of the Tentacle game, or a new King's Quest. I really miss RPG/adventure games where you could type in the commands on your computer, like the original "Quest For Glory/Hero's Quest" game (not the remake where they dumbed it down and made it point and click only). Games where it wasn't completely obvious what you had to do, objects you could interact with weren't highlighted, gleaming, or otherwise pointed out to you, and you could get creative with what you told your character to do (and they always had some funny little secrets and responses hidden in the game if you asked for some unusual things).

In case you haven't run across it, Homestar Runner made Peasant's Quest (http://www.homestarrunner.com/disk4of12.html) a while ago, it sounds like it'd be up your alley. It's short and a satire of the King's Quest games, but the text based puzzle solving is all there.

I was really disappointed in King's Quest VII because it was dumbed down, so every time you put the cursor over something you could touch, it would sparkle like crazy. I don't recall that being the way VI's mouse worked, I don't know what they were thinking. But the text based ones were always fun. I think it was the second one where, if you tried to kill a priest, you'd get a message along the lines of "Anyone who would harm a man of the cloth doesn't deserve to play this game" and then you'd die instantly.

I'm really looking forward to those collections, I hope they don't get pushed back any farther. I don't know if they'd be able to jump start some of the series, but I can dream.

The problem I'm having with this is there's no evidence that Vivendi is going to try to fix some of the inherent flaws Sierra made when they created these games.

What I'd love to see on a new Space Quest collection are:

A reoptimized timer system that actually works on CPUs faster than 386. SQIV is notoriously impossible to play unless your using moslo
Redone midi support for SQ III, IV, and V that adheres to the Roland M125 mp3s I've got.
The Current Inside Copy video remastered in quicktime 8.

Amen. I have very good memories of the Zork games and others. Did you ever play Douglas Adams's Starship Titanic (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000069CCI/)? That game combined the best parts of graphical and text adventuring (the interface was Presto Studios-style first person but the character interaction was done with a text parser similar to Zork).

I haven't played Magna, but I believe the original 5 games are quite different. Obviously the graphics are much more primitive, and they are closer in spirit to the other Sierra Quest games. You wander around trying to win the girl of your dreams and sometimes foiling supervillains' plots.

I bought a used box set of the first 5 games dirt cheap recently. You can probably find one on Ebay.

Ha! That's awesome! I hadn't seen it before, but I got a kick out of playing. I love that they included a number of dumb ways to die. Too funny. Thanks for pointing that out.

Man, I haven't thought about Zork in ages! I remember playing it on my Commodore 64 when I was kid.

I haven't played Starship Titanic. I'll have to hunt down a copy and try it out.

Well the Zork game I played had pictures. Heck! Even FMV sequences to show where your character moved to. It was in first person though so you never got to actually see your character. But it was a charming game all the way through :) Even the installation was a point & click in it's own right ;)

Oh. The first several Zork games were text only.

Eventually they went back and made the top half of the screen a picture, so it was like a text adventure with accompanying slide show. I think it was a re-release version of the original games.

A game which I enjoyed a lot and was very "point-and-click-esque" was the Little Big Adventure (AKA, Relentless) series. Although you were free to move as you please, you'd basically be trying to achieve things similar to most point and click games, such as helping people who help you progress, finding objects by searching and interacting etc. Just thought I'd mention it because it was a charming game and worth getting used or new if you can find it.
