After Makai Kingdom comes Disgaea II, the sequel to 2003's SRPG Disgaea. And yes, this is a real Nippon Ichi sequel.

Currently the game is slated for a February release in Japan, which means the US release shouldn't be that far after. The hype machine starts now, as I get pretty hyped about future Nippon Ichi games in advance!

- It is a direct sequel to Disgaea 1, taking place 2 years afterwards.
- Etna is a main character, however, Flonne and Laharl are conspiciously absent in any art or images released so far.
- Etna has reached Majin level -- she is an overlord without her own netherworld.
- There are two new main characters, Abel and Roselynn.
- Abel is the only human left on his planet, 15 years ago (he would have been around 2 at the time) his entire planet was changed to demons by Xenon, for reasons unknown. Also for reasons unknown, he was left alone.
- When attempting to summon Xenon to defeat him and restore his planet to normal, Adel accidently summons Rosalinde, the Level 1, spoiled rotten 17 year old daughter of Xenon. Completely clueless about the world outside of her father's castle, Adel is stuck taking her back home.

- The game uses Disgaea 1's engine. Tile based combat is back, combo attacks are back, transmigration (likely re-translated as reincarnation) is back, etc.

I'm excited!

Interesting! I know a couple people who'll be excited about this.

Hopefully it'll be easy to get into, as I haven't had the pleasure of playing the original yet. D=

I'm a little disappointed that they're reusing Disgaea's engine. After all the battle system changes it's going to feel like taking two giant steps backwards.

Pretty. They may be going back to the Disgaea battle system but they at least cleaned up the graphics for it.

Also this should end the rumors about Etna not being a playable character in the game.

Is it 100% certain that they're just going to use the Disgaea engine? I'd figure they'd atleast add in the improvements in moving with the distance circle instead of the squares.

Battle elements such as the combos and team attacks will be appearing once again, as well as a gridded battlefield

Other returning Disgaea elements include combos, grid-pattern fields, and the Dark Assembly.
Unfortunately it seems that way. Though I'd love to be proven wrong.
