does it bug anyone else that nintendo seems to be pumping out handheld consoles every7 or eight months. it seems to me that nintendo is pulling some "*planned obcelesnce" on the consumers(*the act os selling a product, waiting for sales to plato and the come out with a better version, wait again, and another better one comes out, etc.)
im i right? or is nintendo unguilty?
wow, do i have a thing against nintendo

Let's see all the handhelds Nintendo released:
1989: Original Gameboy
1995ish: Gameboy pocket (more portable version of the GB)
1998: Gameboy Color (A GB that can play color games)
2001: Gameboy Advance (first true succesor to the GB)
2003: GBASP (more portable version of GBA)
2004: Nintendo DS (Nintendo's newest handheld line)
2005: GBmicro (more portable version of GBA)
So, Nintendo really only released 3 different handhelds, but with better versions of each.
(GB, GBP, GBC)
(GBA, GBASP, GBmicro)

(NDS)The Micro really isn't all that worth it though, the screen upgrade it has is minimum in overall difference compared to the DS, and it was stripped of it's playback feature which the SP had. I mean for a bit more you could purchase a DS.

lol. Where you got that idea from I haven't a clue. I don't think you thought this topic over ;) Like anyname said, there have really only been 3 real generations of Nintendo handhelds. 4 I guess if you count the Game & Watch, but I've never seen one so I wouldn't know if it was handheld or not (I think it was).

They weren't a system with interchangeable game carts, they were standalone devices.

Yeah... but if you don't have a GBA and your looking for mass portablity or "coolness factor" (I guess  ) then it's a good mingle.
But what erks me about the micro is that, even though it has the brightest screen, it's still a smaller screen and takes out the component that plays old GB games, so it SHOULD cost less then the SP, they could market this for $50-$60.

It is neither evil, nor greedy. They're keeping up with technology and the marketplace, and consistantly trying to provide a new and better experience for their customers. Besides, their handhelds are cheap, and have a lot of intrinsic value. I only used my GBA SP for a year or so before switching to the DS, and I sure as hell got my $100's worth out of it.
like its already been mentioned they are mainly just upgrades. You could have rocked out the regular sized GB until the GBA came out pretty much. Its like complaining that computers get smaller or something similar, they just open the market for people who want better versions.
its not nintendos fault the btter versions are damn cool.

And rather fairly priced might I add ;) As cool as they all were though, the best handheld I've had so far is the GBASP. So very small, portable, cheap, compact, plus a huge library of games and accessories.
Then again, it isn't my FAVE handheld ;) No sir! But I think you already know which one I love the most.

All companies are like that

I love my micro. It is choice. If you have the means, I highly suggest it.

There are methods of conducting business that could easily be described as "evil." That's not a subject for this thread, though.

Not true, seeing as GBC games didn't work on regular Gameboys and GBPockets.
While on one hand, I agree that they haven't pumped out a ton of different systems, this habit of theirs of tacking on vital new features (like the "backlit" screen and rechargable battery), while making it more costlier to upgrade (WTF Nintendo, a "special" GBA Micro cable needed to link to other GBAs?) is getting on my nerves.
no one's forcing you to upgrade models, heck, my original Gameboy Advance from 2001 can still play a ton of new top-notch titles like Gunstar Super Heroes. To me, The Nintendo DS is more or less just the next generation of the Gameboy line-up made for more sophisticated games graphically as well as more unique titles due to its set-up.
Even if they do make a new model of the Nintendo DS in the near future, as long as it doesn't render the old one obselete, so what? Nintendo's not trying to make their handhelds go obselete, its just called improvement so new buyers can get a more refined product.

I would say that many of the major game companies have done things that could be considered "evil" (a good recent example: EA's monopolizing of sports franchises is unfair and greedy to the highest degree). The term, however, is completely subjective.

It's not really hurting consumers, since the actual games you have to buy new systems for only come out about once every three to five years (about the average of any console), so really they're just giving customers more choice as to what they want.
Anything that gives a company more profits without hurting consumers seems like a good thing.

My guess with the micro thing is they're trying to make it seem more appealing. GBA games are still in development you know, so it's not a dead console. New things like this will hopefully attract new gamers to the handheld world. If I didn't already have a DS I'd have a Micro myself.
But the Micro doesn't really do too much more than the predecessors for GBA so it probably won't appeal to anyone who's already played the GBA's best-of-the-best to death. I personally think it's a good tactic.
