I have not played the third of the series yet but the first two were awesome. Thank god I waited to play them as roms because it would have taken forever for me to finish the game with all the crazy bosses, especially the last few ones. I really do appreciate the save state with the nester emulator.

From what I have heard though the last game does not live up to the first two. I have seen previews and I tend to agree.

But I believe what makes the Ninja Gaiden the best trio among others, ie. Mario Brothers and so on, is the intro shown before you even you start the game. It kind of sets the tone before all the gaming starts. I rather especially like the intro from the second of the three. Something else that in my opinion is what makes this series so good is that I have not played it until now. When I was a youngster all those years ago I actually had one of the three games not sure which but the Ryu Hayabusa character and the whole ninja theme scared the bejeeezes out of me. Truly I am not lying. What really freaked the crap out of me is the first boss which looked like the cross between friday the 13th, freddy cougar and micheal myers. After seeing him or it I never played that game again. Don't mock me because I have a legit reason for being scared, I was only 6 or 7 years old at the time. Camon man give me a little credit.

What are your opinions. Please be gentle.

One more thing, does anybody who uses the nester emulator know why Ninja Gaiden 2 rom malfunctions in the second level(the level with the train). If yes then is there a way to fix the glitch? Any suggestions?

I've only played Ninja Gaiden 2 and it's one of the funnest games ever...ever. Dunno about emulators but on the NES original you go back to the title screen after you lose your last life. However, if you make it to the last level you apparently have unlimited continues. I always quit in frustration as soon as the title screen hit so I went YEARS without ever continuing. Finally, I figured it out just recently and beat it after about 2 extra hours.

Did Tecmo deliberately make it that hard so that nobody on this planet could have passed the game without some sort of assistance? I barely passed the first one and it took about a hundred tries with one of the final bosses to get one step closer to the end. What really pissed me off was the levels getting to the boss. I always died with the continuous hits that some of the badies of the game would give me like the eagles and flying jet pack ninjas who threw ninja stars.

Maybe as a duo but definetly not a trio. NGIII is generally regarded one of the worst sequels ever made.

I've beaten all three of the Ninja Gaiden games, although I've only beaten the second one once because we don't actually own it.

They can be very frustrating, but they're also one of those types of games that you can breeze through any level once you memorize where enemies appear and when to jump, slash, etc etc. Actually, that's when the game really gets fun for me...when you get to the point where you practically look psychic and are setting yourself up to slash multiple enemies with dazzling ninja finesse before they even appear on the screen.

Man, now I feel like digging out the old NES....

If someone is going to place this please place it in spoilers. I haven't played the game yet.

Ah, the original Ninja Gaiden trilogy. Very fun games from what I remember of them.

I agree that number 3 was terrible storywise but the gameplay still had that classic Ninja Gaiden feel to it.

I still prefer number 2 though just for the incredible amount of detail (the train level is one of the greatest game levels ever made) and the fact that it had the most memorable characters ever. (Ashtar and Robert T.S. rule!)

Number 1 is still the hardest though. The jetpack ninjas and eagles ARE a pain in the ass!

I find the Ninja Gaiden Trilogy ridiculously overrated myself. Really, if I want awesome platforming action with cheap, frustrating deaths, I'll stick Revenge of Shinobi and the SNES Castlevania games.

Pretentious, you actually liked the SNES port of Dracula X?

Seeing as I've never so much as seen a PC Engine (much less played that version of the game), I can't compare the SNES version to it. So in that respect, yeah I find it plenty fun.

Wait but I thought overall in graphics and sound the nester emulator was the best around? Are these better?

FCEUltra has been the best Nes emulator since Nesticle wen't under. I used to use RockNES until I discovered not only that the train level from NG2 didn't work, but that the intro for NG1 froze the emulator for some reason. With porter Richard Bannister's vast speed improvements in the latest Nestopia (upwards of 50%!), I switched. Now, they DO have a FCEUltra port for Mac, but it runs fairly slowly on my system.

As for my favorite Ninja Gaiden game, probably 2. It seemed to balance the difficulty the best, and for an NES game, its graphics were quite good.

Anyone who still is optimistic about the third one, stay that way. Double Dragon 3 turned out to be tons of fun and competitive despite the loads of negative reviews I've read about it. Everybody says it hard. It is, but it totally playable and beatable and the lil story is fun. I beat it myself without cheating.

Really you must have been one of the really lucky ones because I could never pass the third level. Damn whatever that thing is. I could not get that much further with two players and doing all of those team moves.

...Seeing as I've never so much as seen a PC Engine... Sure you have! They're known as TurboGrafix 16's out here.

The Ninja Gaiden series is great...if you're using Game Genie...otherwise the games are near impossible. I'm not sure how anyone could find outmaneuvering a bird and killing it only to be killed by the EXACT SAME BIRD that immediately regenerates fun. Sure, you can memorize the levels, but that's no fun.

At least with the impossible part. Not sure I can agree with the part about memorizing the levels because as somone said earlier, too lazy to look for the person, he/she said that it's good to memorize the levels because it makes you look as if you are psychic. Sorry to say but I rather enjoy the idea.

If you have to memorize the levels in order to play them then what's the point? If you already know the levels inside and out then how is it fun to play them? Part of the fun of playing a game is not knowing what comes next. When a game becomes predictable it's time to put it aside.

It works out though because since it is so difficult to pass anyway knowing what to do next just makes less of an obstacle. Sure I can know how to beat a level for example, but once I get to the boss I can know every part about the game but still not be able to pass. That's why I can stay entertained because I can beat the level but may have to start the level all over again. I mean I am playing the second game right now and I can't already get past the know mountain level. Knowing how the snow blows doesn't help me because I can't deal with the snow and deal with all the enemies at the same time since they keep reappearing. Damn those bastards.

The Ninja Gaiden Trilogy was fun, but not the best trio from 1988-1995 during the Nintendo/SNES/Genesis age. There was Super Mario Brothers, Contra, and Double Dragon to contend with. You could also mention Ikari Warriors, James Pond, and Sonic the Hedgehog.

Yeah I mentioned those, but I meant only the nes titles and also not really considering the last of the series.

Ninja Gaiden is a cool series. I'm not sure if I liked it or Shinobi better but both were good.

Though for a ninja trilogy you know I'm gonna have to go with Ninja Turtles 1, 2 and 3 for the NES. As for trilogies in general... Super Mario Bros. and Sonic the Hedgehog were the tops in my book but there were plenty of others that were better than Ninja Gaiden.

All three games were difficult initially but after many replays, the games became pretty easy but it was still fun mowing all the enemies down. This especially good when I just want to watch the movie scenes.

The second game was the gem of series. It had the best music, gameplay and story. While the third game was the worst, it was still "okay fun."

The SNES version sported better coloring and graphics and I thought with the improved audio cabilities of SNES, it would have made music even better but that wasn't the case. It made some tracks sound worse and almost recognizable in some cases. A huge down side for the SNES version is that the ending credits and their music was not included in the game. The ending music to NG2 was one of the best of the series, and it is criminal that it isn't in the game.

Here's a wicked Ninja Gaiden site: http://www.classicgaming.com/ninjagaiden/frames.html.

If you're interested in fans remixing various themes from Ninja Gaiden, www.vgmix.com (http://www.vgmix.com/) and www.ocremix.org (http://www.ocremix.org/) have some outstanding remixes that shouldn't be missed.

If you prefer the original music, you can find them here: http://www.zophar.net/music.html. However, you will probably need to download a program or a plug-in in order to listen the songs.
