What type of soda do you drink, Cal?

Dr Pepper and RC are my colas. I also like A&W, Moutain Dew Code Red, Orange Crush, and a few other odd ball flavors. But if I had to choose between Coke and Pepsi, I'd pick Pepsi, but it's not my poison of choice. You'll never see me leaving a grocery store with a 12 pack of it.

I like both! I used to drink a lot of Coke, but my sister prefers Pepsi, so I've ended up acquiring a taste for both. I also like Diet Pepsi, although I can't say I'm as crazy on Diet Coke (although I will drink it if nothing else is around). Also, I like the new Pepsi Twist flavour - esp. the diet version, but don't like the Coke with Lemon (diet or regular).

Calhoun - Mountain Dew Code Red is a good flavour, isn't it?

Woohoo! I finally reached 100 posts! :D

Coke. No Question.

I also like Cherry Coke, and IBC Root Bear & Cream Soda.

Yes, Code Red is awesome. I don't even care for Mountain Dew all that much, but I hope Code Red is around an awfully long time.

There was only one kind of Pepsi I really liked, and that was Crystal Pepsi. I am sorry to see it's gone from the market now.

Both. As long as there is no 'diet' in the title of either.

Is it true that coke tastes different in various countries? Or did I just make that up?

They taste different. I work with a man who is a Coke fanatic, and even visited the museum where ever it is in Georgia. They have samples of all the Cokes from around the world you can sample there, and it's universally held that the Italian version is the worst tasting of them all.

I remember Crystal Pepsi - that was pretty good! I also like Pepsi Max, which is still around. I wish that either Coke or Pepsi would make a diet version of their Cherry soda, as I really like it but shouldn't be having too much sugar.

The Coca-Cola Museum is in Atlanta. It's actually pretty cool for an establishment dedicated to the history of an over-hyped carbonated beverage. :D

But it doesn't taste bad, and neither does Pepsi. Though I prefer Mountain Dew and the occasional Sunkist, when I can find it. Everyone else I know likes Dr. Pepper, but for some strange and inexplicable reason I can't stand the taste of it.

No question about it.... Pepsi.

Coke leaves a funny after taste in my mouth, and honestly just doesn't taste as good as Pepsi does.

Diet Pepsi for me. I dunno why but I'm just hooked. I tend to avoid Coca-Cola for a numbe rof reasons which I'd rathar not get into to. I recommend to any Canadians, to catch CBC's The Cola Wars, which should be rerunning in early 2002. Very fascinating. You think the Pepsi VS Coca-Cola thing is ugly? Well...you don't know the half of it...

Who here ever took the Pepsi Challenge? (TM) My sister and I once took it. We were too nice to say that we actually knew the difference (who can NOT tell the difference?!), so we just picked the Pepsi so they wouldn't attack us. :D

Personally, I like neither of them. I mean, they're okay when I'm thirsty (or when they're cold...half the sodas I have drunken in my life were lukewarn), but I'm not a big soda lover.

Umm, a few things...
Diet Cherry Coke Does Exist....
Coke actually tastes different region to region, cause different bottleing plants have different water supplies, which really does affect how the soda tastes.

I'm surprised @ the number of ppl who like Dr. Pepper...since it's not even widely available nation wide.

another thought is, which do you prefer, fountain, bottle or can?
(I prefer glass bottle whenever I can find it...best thing to come out of Mexico...=D)

I think Berkley Breathed said it best in "Bloom County": "They both taste like malted battery acid."

Actually, I understand that Mexican Coke is still made with sugar, while those of us in the USofA have to settle for crappy old corn syrup.

And I was wondering if I was the only one who drank Crystal Pepsi... :)

That's interesting, since I have used coke to clean the battery cables on my car once when it wasn't making a good connection. A little baking soda and a cup of coke will make the battery cables in your car shiny and new without much scrubbing. Just dip it in the coke for a minute or so. It really makes me wonder what that does to your teeth? That guy I mentioned earlier I know who's a coke fanatic? He's also going to the dentist quite a bit, seriously.

Ever done that experiment where you leave a nail in a glass of coke and it completely dissolves after a few days?

Funny you should mention using coke to clean your car batteries. I used to have a list of all the stuff you could do with coke, from cleaning your toilet bowl to making a nice sauce for basting chicken. Never found that list, but I did find this:

Coke's original recipe contained a trace amount of cocaine, but it disappeared from the formulation pretty quickly. And how Coca-Cola Classic can call itself "Original Recipe" with all that putrid corn syrup in it is beyond me. Also, if you can find a Mexican grocery nearby, try to see if they have any imported Cokes. At least, that's according to one of their merchandisers...
Oh, and...

I like Coke better. As a kid I had a Pepsi overkill one time. Dad kept buying the brand and after awhile the flavor of Pepsi tasted bitter in my mouth. So I switched to Coke and I haven't complained since. Recently I would get Pepsi if Coke wasn't available at certain places, and I don't mind the taste anymore. But I still prefer Coke and I do find them to taste differently somewhat. :)

In my house, we drink Coke, and at school, they only have Pepsi. I'll drink both. It really doesn't make a difference to me. I chose Coke 'cause I like the bubbly taste, and the Pepsi at school (which is from a fountain) tastes very syrupy.

To whoever asked about fountain, can, or bottle, I have to say bottle with can close behind. Soda is watered down in a fountain. Icky. And with bottles, you can drink some now and save it for later. It's nice for me since I can't drink Soda fast at all. It can take me an hour to drink a can.

Calhoun07
12-24-2001, 04:22 PM
when you say bottle, I assume you mean plastic bottle?

I still wish they had pop in glass bottles. I know Coke is out there in expensive six packs, but all kinds of pop needs to be in glass bottles.

And you know what else? This is reminding me quite a bit of a previous pop thread that we had!

Actually, some fast food chains don't even use pop in their fountains - but a mix of ingreedients and articial flavoring and ALOT of water - hence the watery taste. I prefer bottle - plastic or glass.

Yeah, I heard they do that. Really icky. And yet, I'll still drink it 'cause there really isn't anything else to drink at a fast food place.

Oh, I remember after Hurricane Floyd hit us in 1999, the water was contaminated for a while, and all the fast food places, and even my school, were giving us cans because they couldn't use the fountains.

And, yes, I mean plastic bottle. I've never had soda in a glass bottle.

You can get anywhere there's a Wal-Mart, but it'll be marketed as Sam's Choice Mountain Lightning. That's my #2 drink, with root beer a strong #1.

Anybody remember...
http://www.pacifier.com/~ntierney/ok.gif ?

This was an alternative pop Coke made back in the mid 90's or so. I miss this stuff as much as I miss Crystal Pepis. I would be drinking this stuff almost as regularly as I drink Dr Pepper (which would be A LOT) but I did find a way to make your own brand of OK. Fill the glass 3/4 of the way with Coke and wait 5-10 seconds to let the fizz go down. Then, put orange soda in the space leaving about a 1/2 inch from the top. Put in a dash of Dr. Pepper for spice.
Note: This recipe does not include ice. Also, the mixture won't taste exactly 'OK,' but it'll do for you that miss it.

Believe it or not, there is still a newsgroup up about OK, but it's filled with spam right now.

It kinda sounds like what we have here, called Yo-J, which is a mixture of yogurt and juice. It's good, but a half gallon is too much for me, and they don't sell it in smaller containers. I like to drink it, but not a half gallon's worth by the time it expires.

OK! Oh my lord, I had forgotten how much I liked that! Not only did it taste good, but the marketing campaign was hilarious... it was low-key and weird, and dedicated to making you feel OK. Think the Cohen brothers attempting to be deadpan and you've got it. There was even an 800 number you could call to measure your OK-ness. Pure genius. My college dorm couldn't get enough of it.

The Mad Hatter

And if I remember right, OK was only test-marketed in a few places. I can't believe it failed, since everyone at my college loved it. Ah well. Glad to see it still has a cult following...
