With January coming rathar quickly, I can't help but wonder - what is the avatar theme? Superbowl?

I dunno. I've heard a lot of talk about a superbowl Avatar contest..but..I dunno. I'm not a big Football fan anymore (I can't enjoy watching it anymore..oh well).

Well, January, I dunno.
February...how about some kind of Valentines contest? Or perhaps just a "shades of red" contest... :p
OOO!!!! February is Toy Fair!!! Maybe we could have a "favorite toy" contest? Perhaps of an old toy from childhood..or a new toy you've been drooling over?? :eek: :D
March...hmmm...is St. Patricks Day in March?
Then Easter? In April? I dunno...
May shall be Spider-Man(Mine is soooo cool!), and Star Wars(??)

And I think a couple people mentioned a Star Trek contest?

I think that January would be a good month for a randomly themed avatar contest. The last few have been based on Holidays and, of course, the LOTR one based on the movie. I don't think that we've done a random one since the Star Wars one.

But, I think that we should take an avatar contest break before we worry about the next one.

OK, we had room for another 100 posts before making the shift from pt 2 to pt 3, but I'm gonna go ahead and jumpstart the new incarnation. We got outta hand there at the end of pt 2 and maybe the change will shock us back to sobriety. This thread can't turn into another TNP.

As for the next contest: A Superbowl theme sounds fine. When is the Superbowl, anyway?

Actually, I think the Super Bowl this year might have been delayed into the 1st Sunday of February because of 9-11.

I'm all for a Super Bowl contest, but do you think there's enough interest? I'd hate for it to have a low turnout like the LOTR contest.

Whoa, that could be a catapult for creativity! It might be a little difficult thing to pull off, but I really like the idea for it. A contest that not only reflects your aesthetic tastes but also reflects your personality? I think that's a great idea.

Something like that. I don't remember her fighting a lot of baddies to be honest, but I think she turned into some do- gooding superstar when she spun her magic earrings. It also had some nice opening theme animation, IIRC.

Honestly, I was actually entertained by it when I was a kid. This is coming from a boy who dug Transformers, Robotech, Bravestarr and Thundercats.

My friend Jesse made it for me when I asked him to make a rose avatar for me,
He's a very talented artist and he can draw really good on the computer too.
He lives across the street from me and he's so nice and sweet,
He like gave me a super cute teddy bear and a bouquet of flowers for Christmas.
That is like so sweet.
He's like one of those people that you feel blessed to have as a friend.
The ones that are always there for you, which is so kewl except that his bedroom is really messy which needs to be cleaned real bad.

It's actually Rasputin, that infamous 19th-century Russian monk. I first used him during the Halloween avatar contest, and a poster at Termite Terrace said it looked like Shemp with a beard. I had to admit, with the stringy hair and potato nose, it did resemble Shemp in "Sing a Song of Six Pants" (after he put on bank robber Terry Hargan's fake whiskers). So I resurrected him for the week and rechristened him.

If you have a paint program (A fairly decent paint program, not MS Paint. Something like Paintshop Pro, or Photoshop. Mmm...Photoshop), you can use the crop tool to cut out the part that you want and the rest of the picture is deleted. Then you can resize the portion that you just cut out. The crop tool looks like a black square with two black lines coming out of each side of two corners on the square diagonal to each other. Just in case you don't know what a crop tool is and hopefully my description makes sense!

As for making it a jpg or gif file, if the file was already in that format when it started, I think you can just save changes, and there's your new avatar. Unless you want to save your avatar separately and keep your nice new picture. Try "Save as..." then. If that doesn't work (it should), you might have to export the file as a jpg or gif, and the commands for that vary with paint programs. But I think it's pretty simple to figure out after trying a few commands.

I don't use animated gifs that regularly, but I think you can just resize it with a paint program like a normal gif.

I don't have a paint program really because well... as far as i can tell, Macintosh don't come w/ paint programs and I can't find one.... I do have Adobe Photoshop though... does that count? :confused: ~everyone starts laughing~ oh be quiet... I'm not exactly computer oriented. :p

I have Corel 10, which tells me it has a program that would allow me to make such files, but I have yet been able to master the technique. Till then, they can be uploaded from individual sites if you ever find a good one, provided it meets the size requirement.
