We all remember what happened with the gas prices when Katrina hit the Gulf Coast. http://www.shoryuken.com/forums/images/smilies/bluu.gif

I dont own a car but I know a lot of people who do so I sugest everyone here to get a full tank of gas, now!

And warn your love ones about it too. Better be prepeard then sorry.

90% of all "gas spike" predictions on the internet are bogus.

I guess this is because of Rita, right?

Well it is logical...considering it looks like the storm is heading that way. If it's strong enough, prices will likely go up again.

Heh I use my trusty old shovel to shovel the snow.

Yes, gas will increase in the next few days, but lets hope the hurricane hits Corpus Christi or further south of that.

See, it's this kind of attitude that drives up gas prices. Gas prices don't just depend on supply but also on demand. So when everyone goes "OMG OMG GAS IS GOING TO GO UP MUST BUY NOW O_O," the prices DO go up because everyone and their brother is buying up the gas. If people acted like normal and shopped around gas would only go up when actual supplies were hit instead of just because everyone is having a cow.

Well, I understand that an Increase in demand all by itself can increase gas prices, however:

Hurricane Rita is headed for the Galveston/Texas City region of Texas: IE: the #1 region in texas for oil production.

The U.S. Minerals Management Service reported that 15 rigs have been evacuated thus far. That's six more than Monday's report and about 11 percent of the Gulf's operating rigs.

It also has cost about 877,000 barrels of oil, slightly more than half of the 1.5 million daily production, the agency said in Tuesday's report.

Supply is decreasing. Even if demand remained steady, price will go up. And It will probably stay up for 2-3 weeks. So yes, I filled up my tank today, and will plan on driving as little as possible through Columbus day weekend.

...and then, like with Katrina, it will come down after a week. Have optimism, my friends. :)

I just got back from filling the tank. 2.78/gal seems like a bit now, but I'm willing to wager tomorrow's updates will have made it worthwhile.

I'm getting gas tomorrow, just to be safe. If it hits those refineries, gas prices will most likely skyrocket... :crying:

I'm aware of that, but still, encouraging everyone and their brother to get gas now just adds to the increase that will already occur and increases prices even before the supply decrease really starts upping the prices.
