So what did you think of it? I personally was really kinda dissapointed. It was Ok but the plot was really quite weak and really too short to have any proper depth.
I'd say it was Okish. But the series was a lot better.

I liked it well enough...but yeah there were some parts that were just a tad too 'animated movie' cliche. Though as far as I'm aware most of those issues in the film weren't supposed to be there in the first place...so I really don't fault the movie, or the people making it, for them (ie- Musical montage with 'hip' music!). I liked the movie designs a lot, and thought it was put together in a fairly interesting and fun way that remained true to the series.
I think I probably would've liked it more had they not gone with the 'prequel' sort of root by telling us a new story and not fleshing out one of which we vaguely knew (the girl's and Mojo's birth).
That tag sequence though...brilliant. :p

It was good to me. I really liked the tag scene.

It was alright...but still not as great as what the show did at its very best. Episodes like Meet the Beatalls, Equal Fights, AWSM, Film Flam, Best Rainy day adventure ever, Uh Oh Dynamo, and Bubblevicious were great achievmants for the show. Little short stories that were, and still are, some of the best stuff to come out of Cartoon Network studios. The movie while technically lightyears ahead of the show in visuals (wonderful tag scene) lacked the heart of the shows very best episodes. And strangely it seems that after the movie the show lost alot of its spark. The stories became more drab, and just much less interesting. Infact just recently I caught the episode Stuck up, up, and away on the top 5. It was just as fresh and as funny as I remember it being more than a half decade ago when I first watched it. I think that in those early episodes McCrackin and his team really succeded in making a show that would endure in quality even as the shows viewers aged. I know it did for me anyway (I was in the middle of elementary school when the W.A.C short premeired and in Middle school when the series started).
But anyway the PPG movie was an alright movie I guess. If it had been released two years earlier it probably would have done better at the box office. And as I understand it, WB marketing really did a number on it when they marketed it the way they did. They made sure only to target little girls, and made sure that only very secure members of the male sex (of which I'm one I guess, I didn't hold a kid hostage while entering the theatre) would have any interest in seeing it. They also opened it in the same weekend as some huge movies that were coming out.
Truth be told alot of fans really got angry at the Ebert and Roper reviews. But now looking back at it with fresh eyes, I think I can kinda see how someone who wasn't a huge fan of the show (like many of us at Toonzone were), might not really like it that much.

I like this movie a lot, for it's a good story, interesting designs, well-executed action sequences, and some really touching moments (esp. the Professor putting his tired little girls to bed for the first time.)

What annoyed me was that they didn't restrict themselves to trashing the movie; they made some rather nasty insinuations about PPG fans. That was definitely over the line.

I wonder whether their explaining the origin of Antidote X was intentional or not. It appeared in only one episode.

I disliked it, I wish they wouldn't have done a prequel becuase they already told that story in flashbacks.
They also opened it in the same weekend as some huge movies that were coming out. Specifically Men in Black II.

I thought the movie was really well done. Although McCracken got tired of the super hero genre, you cannot deny the finely crafted action scenes in the movie. It took the best from the show and just made it pop. The computer adied animation added a new sense of speed and depth to the movement. Simply put, the movie was great.
I was somewhat disappointed it was a prequel, but seeing how they actually pulled it off made it fun. We never knew Mojo had all of those mutated apes on his side. The crazy antics and the utter destruction of Townsville make the movie fun. Sure, if you've seen the show, you probably don't have to see the movie...but you'd WANT to see it.

Specifically Men in Black II.
Yeah that was the big one.
I remember the Movie "Like Mike" and "The Crocodile Hunter movie" also ended up out grossing it. Probably because to most people (guys anyway) they looked more "adult" or like something that wasn't going to make them feel to estrogeny (I just made up a word),
Again I have to praise the source material though. The first few seasons of that T.V show may possibly have been the best of the Cartoon Cartoons (and I will call them that forever) along with the first 52 Dexter episodes and some of the better Samurai Jack episodes. The Powerpuff girls always had that balance of cuteness and really edgy violence. I mean CN would never let an anime get away with beating villans senseless in the intro of ever episode, but cute, girls with big eyes and no fingers? Sure. I mean look at an episode like Bubbleviscious, when Bubbles takes down those monsters. You half wanna gasp in horror at the devestation, and half want to bust out laughing at just how funny it looks. And then that line "Who else wants some" just caps it all off so well.
The problem with the movie (and to a greater degree the post movie episodes), was that balance was thrown out of whack. It just became way to cute, and lost alot of that edge that made the show so interesting.

Being a fan of the TV series, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. It is one of the few movies that I am interested in having on DVD. Although it came out in full screen only here in the states, I still bought it on DVD. In The United Kingdom and Australia, the movie came out in widescreen. I hope to get a copy of the movie from one of those regions.

I was disappointed at first when I found out it was going to be a prequal. But after seeing it on CN durring the summer(I missed it in the theaters) I thought it was pretty good. The tag and Mojo's monkeys were some of the best scenes in the movie, and the scenes with the Prof. first meeting the girls had a humorous family touch to it.

I remember when the movie came out in the States, I was so excited to see it. It's really sad the movie didn't do well.
The girls are born, the part where they help Mojo build his lair, and the creations of the monkeys to the end of the movie, were my favorite parts.
The tag thing had good animation but it lasted a little long, some of the scenes I admit were boring, but the fight scenes made it worth it. And the music was great too.
I give it an A-, which is wierd since I don't grade movies.
