This morning I got an application form for the Scottish Youth Theatre, and if I fill it in and send it back to them as soon as possible I'll finally be able to get the acting lessons I've been bragging about for the past 2 months

This is a big opportuinity for me and there is no way in hell I am missing out on it

See...I am making an effort!

Good for you!! I hope the effort pays off, and make sure to work hard!! Never give up, and think of your dream when things seem hard.

Thanks, I wish I could tell the people at the AoD forums about this, it would show I'm finally making an effort here

No problem. I'm on your side all the way, despite any things in the past. To be honest, I wasn't annoyed.

Anyways...Question, what do you want to voice in? Just anime, just videogames, maybe both? Or other things?

Well now that I think of it, even though I really REALLY want to do anime dubs, I'd also like to do video game voice work and maybe the odd bit of American animation

It'd be a good idea to try any voicing job you can get, evem if it's a commercial. A big reason is for added practice.

A good idea would be to keep your throat wet, then letting it get dry. So be sure to drink water when you're working.

I know, but that blog caused me so many problems

Maybe once it's permantly deleted I'll re-start it

You don't need to wait for 30 days before LJ flushes your LJ. You can create as many as you want.

This, I feel, was so simple you could have put it in your signature. What you've done is made this forum your guidance home, and as of now, I'm glad nobody else has made multi-logies of threads based upon themselves. Truthfully, I hope never to see another of this type thread... more specifically, "Will I ever get my career off the ground"-type threads...

The Cafe is meant to be the location for discussion about anything, including sharing details about our personal lives (in moderation of course). If you don't wanna read about it, don't open the thread. If you think a thread is inappropriate, report it. If there's a discussion going on you're not interested in, don't take part in it. If there's a poster you find annoying, take it up with them in private, or use the ignore option (that's what's it there for, after all). It's not your place to chide someone and tell them what they can and can't post - leave those determinations to the mods.

GrantM: good luck to you - I hope you're successful!

Granted that it's up to you mods to know what's allowed and what isn't but all Grant has been doing is just talking and not listening to anyone's advice on what to do in order to become a voice actor, so he makes more threads about "woe is me. I don't know what to do now!!" and we explain ourselves and he doesn't listen.

And who's fault is it that you keep talking to him? Only yours. If you feel he's not listening to you, then don't bother responding to him. Posting your own "woe is me, I'm tired of you not listening to me" response doesn't help any.

Quite frankly, a user posting public complaints about another member in said member's thread is as annoying to me as his posts are to you. And if it continues, warnings will be handed out. Last time I say this in this thread, folks: if you've got a problem with a thread, don't take it into your own hands. Report it and walk away. And if you've got a problem with a poster, take it up with him/her in private, or simply put him/her on your ignore list.

Now let's get back on topic.

Wow, that's great, Grant! Just try not to let anything frustrate you. You're there to learn, you're bound to make mistakes. Listen to everyone's advice so you'll grow as an actor.

I am very proud of you Grant. I know you have a lot of questions about voice acting and I believe a professional will be much better equipped to answer them than we are. Good luck!

It's taken a lot for you to get this far Grant. There are three things to remember that I think could help you from here on:
1. Don't ever be discouraged if anyone or even everyone is better than you. As long as you try, you can and will get better. You just have to make it work for you.
2. In any business, especially The Business, moving up isn't hard, it's getting in. So don't worry about where or how you get in. Just find an open door, window or hole in the wall and use it. Once you're "in", opportunities will seem endless.
3. The people that don't make it got where they did because they quit at some point. That's how people "make it." They stick around long enough for someone else to quit.

Clayface, I hardly recognized you. I thought some stranger was using the Clayface color.

Thanks, I wish I could tell the people at the AoD forums about this, it would show I'm finally making an effort here I don't mean to quote myself but I've come to relise even if I did tell the guys on AoD about this, they probably would not believe me. I mean Chris Beveridge does not even want me on the forum anymore

I'll try, I can get easily frustrated, but I'll try not too

Oh ,and don't ever give up even when discouraged. I mean, it's possible to have low points, but always keep in mind your dream, and that we're right with ya.

Congratulations on making a legitimate and difficult first step. The first step is always a tough one and so few people actually make that initial hurdle. It's a hard fight to take dream to reality and I wish you all the best on fulfilling your desires.

This is great news! I hope you have a successful career.

And if you ever get turned down for a part, just try harder the next time. Look not upon your faliures, but upon your successes.

I've stayed out of your threads before, Grant, but now I feel I must add my two cents:Congratulations on making the first step. It's always the most difficult one!

I'll try, I can get easily frustrated, but I'll try not toAs someone who has lived with ADHD for the better part of his life, I can relate. I myself am taking classes on TV production, budget permitting, and I have to say it is a very intimidating process, but at the same time it is exhilerating and exciting also.

One thing I can say from my experiences so far is not to believe all the negativity. Only you can decide to do this, not trolls who flame you or post Wikipedia articles about you, not even people who post in message boards. Believe in yourself, and the battle is already partly won.:)

Personally I hope by doing this I can make up for all that advice I ignored.

Not just here but from all around the net (including some from the US anime industry)
