Doe a anybody have or had a professor who had any “teaching disabilities”? My Math Professor has ADD. The problem is that he doesn’t stay on a topic for more then a 2 minutes, jumps all over the board when he writes and doesn’t remember what we talked about 2 minutes before. It’s very frustrating to learn this way when you have to constantly put him on the right track. Anybody had any advice on how to deal with my situation?

And changing the class is not an option, all other classes are filled and dropping it is a no no. I need the class to have a full time student status. Any help would be appreciated.

What exactly is the course about?

In college my statistics professor was losing control of his faculties (pun!). It was apparent that in his prime he was nothing short of brilliant (he had written a Statistics textbook in the 70s), but unfortunately he had long passed the point where he should have retired. By itself, stats can be a painful and draining class; with this guy, it was unadulterated hell.

During lectures, he would literally make 2-5 errors each class. Whenever somone raised their hand and called him on it, his canned response was always, "I know, I just wanted to make sure you were paying attention." followed by an unfocused smile. Unfortunately, most likely due to overuse, this phrase entered the realm of his subconscious to the point where it was automatically returned, because I don't think he realized exactly how many times he said that phrase each class. It was very embarrasing for him.

One day he never showed up for class (Tuesday class mind you). We stayed our percribed twenty minutes then left. It turns out, he forgot about daylight savings time, which had happend three days earlier and forgot to set his watch forward.

The worst part is I think I got a B- in that class.

That's how I've passed courses with professors who were extremely lax or went off track and I'm the one with ADD

Then again I seem to remember everything mentally pretty well, I took 36 credits last year and made dean's list...

I mean there's techniques for both...

Even if he does spout disjointed sentences, if you record them you can listen to it over and over, so his lecture speed doesn't really become a hinderance. I mean even if it is disjointed, what he says isn't bad information...

Were you tested to see if you were an audio/visual learner? Yea thats how i know. I learn better from listening. For some odd reason, he does not alow a voice recorder is his class.

I had an Algebra teacher that constantly went off on tangents, mostly about Tolkien. I failed that class, good luck

Gee, I couldn't imagine why. [/sarcasm] :p

I had an art history professor once who seemed to have so much going on n her mind that she would start blabbering (without pausing to take a break) quickly to get that thought out so she could jump to another topic, it was odd. She loved me as a student, and seemed to never notice I was frequently an hour late to class (it was a 4 hour long class only meeting on fridays, and I had an hour drive ahead of me to get there, plus it was about 2 hours earlier than my other classes) she even used me as an example of a dilligent student to a tardy student, to which I received , deservedly, nasty glares form the late-ees around me.

of course i passed with a c but it did seem like i was going to fail from time to time after all with a c i might as well be failing

SORRY ABOUT THAT

You know, it's not that hard to fail Algebra. Of course, I passed with a C, but it did seem like I was going to fail from time to time. After all, with a C, I might as well be failing.
